Wistful Hopes

Wistful Hopes

Roman has trapped the creature they summoned within an invisible barrier. As the creature stomps the ground in frustration, the earth shakes violently, causing an earthquake. In an act of desperation, Roman lifts the barrier high into the air to prevent further destruction.

With a smirk on his face, Roman exclaims with excitement, "Your power is overwhelming! I don't even need to use it myself, yet it has granted me the ability to control everything effortlessly!"

Reah stared intently at the creature hovering above her, her mind racing with thoughts, “Are these the creatures you were talking about? Did they also come from the same phenomenon in your world?”

"You're such a fool, considering how powerful you are! You've even gone to the extreme of permanently transferring your power to us! And now, we're going to extract whatever remains of you and transfer it to these creatures! You do want to restore your world, don't you?" Luke absorbed an 'unknown' energy field from her.

"It's our world now, Luke! Can you believe we're in this together?! Our Goddess is going to bless us with the utopia we've always dreamed of! We're fighting against that bastard's demon lord, Noz, to make it happen!"

Reah's eyes lock onto them, a smile appeared on her lips as she channeled all her power. The room is suddenly bathed in an intense green light, illuminating every corner. The mansion begins to tremble, cracks forming in its walls, but Roman quickly creates a barrier, shielding themselves and the mansion. The ground beneath them shakes as Reah pours every ounce of her power into the creature they've summoned.

The chaotic explosion dissipated harmlessly. As they slowly open their eyes, they find Reah standing beneath the towering creature. Her gaze locks onto them, her expression resolute as she commands, "Extract its knowledge."

"Huh?" They burst into laughter, hurling insults at her.

"YOU STUPID BITCH! DO YOU EVEN REALIZE WHAT'S HAPPENED TO YOU NOW!?" They throw objects at her, one after another, but she effortlessly dodges every single one, maintaining her calm composure.

"Does having boundless power also mean having boundless stupidity!?" Luke's words elicit hysterical laughter from their group.

As Roman approaches her, a sinister smile spreads across his face. "We will..." he begins, his voice dripping with malice. With a swift motion, he uses his power to turn Reah's arms into jelly, causing it to fall to the floor. "Make this world of yours a place worthy of our Goddess's descent! And you and your friends will never be a part of it!" His annoyance is palpable as he gazes at Reah, who remains emotionless, unfazed by his actions. He cuts her thighs, blood to flow onto the floor. "That expression of yours... You really don't want to live, do you?" He raises his hand, "Well then, allow me to assist you with that!"

In his mind, there is a vivid image. He sees a woman, her body resting gently on his lap, clutching a broken staff in her hands. “It was all for you, Hertia...” he whispers to himself. But suddenly, his thoughts are interrupted by a woman’s voice, a voice that feels strangely familiar to him. It causes him to pause, his attention captured, only for the voice to change abruptly.

“Forget about her. Time is running out, Roman. We need to complete our plan before anything else happens.” Luke pulls Roman back, revealing an old clock in his hand, its faint ticking barely audible. Luke gazes up at the towering creature above them. “Let’s get rid of her. That thing up there is more than enough.”

Roman nods in agreement as they teleport outside the mansion. As soon as the creature is released from the barrier, it grows exponentially, towering over the mansion, five times its size. They swiftly relocate the mansion to a spot near the forest, a vast land. With a thunderous stomp, the creature mercilessly crushes Reah into the ground. It continues its relentless assault, stomping and attacking until she is completely buried deep beneath the earth. The massive hole left behind slowly begins to seal itself, as if it had never been disturbed.

"Wait, why do we have to bury her, Roman?" Luke asked, his voice filled with confusion.

"It's easier this way," Roman replied, scanning the surroundings. "I could see her fighting back against that creature, desperately trying to survive. But her body is now barely recognizable. If anyone, especially her allies, were to find her, they would meet the same fate at the hands of the creature."

Luke nodded, impressed. "Just as I expected from the creature that gave Noz such a hard time. I heard your group successfully defeated him, forcing him to flee from his own castle."

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

A somber expression crossed Roman's face. "Yes, we did defeat him, but at a great cost. My wife— our healer, lost her life in the process. She was supposed to be celebrating our victory with us. After Noz disappeared, the goddess told me that I would be transferred to another world as a reward for our sacrifices over the past decade, trying to break free from the shackles he imposed on that world."

Luke replied, "I was also transferred from another world, just a day before I arrived here. The goddess said I would embark on an adventure with a hero to save another world from imbalance."

Roman clenched his fist, determination shining in his eyes. "That's exactly what we need to do now, and with the descent of the goddess, we have even more power. With this power, even the demon lord won't stand a chance against us!"

As they spoke, the other groups approached them after finishing their investigation of the forest. "Roman, nothing unusual to report. This land is vast, and we can make our preparations here."

Roman and Luke exchange nods as they chant inaudibly, the air around them shifting and transforming. The atmosphere becomes filled with an indescribable sound, an otherworldly symphony that swallows the vast land. They find themselves in a dark blue mist, shimmering with countless tiny stars, which blankets the land with its ethereal presence, a comforting presence. The mist swirls and dances, creating a spectacle of colors and patterns.

As Roman extends his hand, attempting to pull something from what he claimed to be 'another world', his world, he is taken aback when he sees an unfamiliar figure standing in the bustling street, seemingly observing him. A sense of unease disturbs his comfort as he scrutinizes the man, realizing that there is something different and unsettling about him. Roman zooms in on the man's face, only to discover that he has no face at all. Ignoring his confusion, Roman removes the images and enhances the clarity of everything within his sight.

"Finally..." with a surge of resolve, Roman pulls everything into existence. The vast land slowly transforms, giving way to an unknown kingdom that materializes before their eyes. Overwhelmed with emotion, Roman smiles through tears as he watches everything unfold before him.

When he is about to wiped his tear, his vision blurred, and he felt a powerful impact against his mouth, as if a massive log had slammed into his face.

It was Reah, but something was amiss. Instead of her usual voice, a deep, masculine tone emanated from her. “Oh? Why do you all wear such surprised expressions? Behold, the goddess stands before you. I am your divine mother! Oh dear, a sword materializes in my hand. But fear not, for I shall not wield it!” As she spoke, her body began to melt, liquefying like wax before reshaping into a different form—it was Kiriya. A maniacal laughter escaped his lips as he mercilessly pummeled them with his bare fists.

This is humiliating. So this is how that Vladius guy felt that day. These people are not even on the level of bandits. Hell, even the lowest bandit is stronger than them. But they are not untrained either. I wonder what’s going on in their world and how they fought their enemies. Their enemies must be weak too.

As Reah emerges from the ground, a figure in the distance charges towards Roman's group with the fury of a raging bull. "You fucking bastards! I'm going to butcher every single one of you!" Just as Vanoc's sword is about to make contact, Kiriya steps in, attempting to calm him down. "I want to do it too! But she has a different plan! It's Clairen! We're going to hand these piles of trash over to Clairen!" Upon hearing Kiriya's words, Vanoc quickly regains his composure, but not before spitting on them in contempt as he walks away.

Reah settles into the chair she conjured, her eyes fixed on the approaching figure of Vanoc. With a snap of her fingers, two more chairs materialize beside her. "Where were you buried?" he asks, his tone seemingly calm, but a hint of annoyance lingers beneath the surface.

"Over there," Reah replies, pointing towards a massive hole near the edge of the forest. "Be careful, those creatures are still alive."

Vanoc's gaze shifts to another hole not too far from where Reah emerged. "It must have been scorching hot down there. I'm surprised you managed to escape without getting covered in dirt."

"These creatures are enormous," Vanoc continues, his eyes gleaming with a mischievous glint. "They'll be quite useful for creating distractions. If only they had existed in the past, I would have loved to see them chew through that bastard's Tarnyies." Without hesitation, he leaps onto one of the charging creatures.

Kiriya takes a seat beside her, offering a hair tie, but she declines with a shake of her head. "When you were on the verge of being trampled, why didn't you switch places with me... I even imitated you perfectly. What was the purpose?"

"...I could not find anything of value. I had such high expectations."

Vanoc effortlessly dispatches the creatures, his movements swift and precise. He skins them and removes their flesh, leaving behind only skeletal remains. Using his magic, he summons a massive chunk of rock and ruthlessly crushes the skeletal remains beneath its weight. Each stomp carries an explosion of pent-up frustration.

Kiriya's disappointment was evident in his gaze as he looked at her. His struggle to contain his words became apparent, and it seemed that he could no longer hold them back. "...Even in the face of thousands of those monsters, you wouldn't get a scratch," he finally voiced his thoughts.

Suddenly, her attention shifted as she pointed towards Luke, who was desperately dragging Roman along in an attempt to escape. "Watch out, that one is about to get away," she warned.

Kiriya stared at them in utter disbelief. “Not only are you delusional, but you’re also incredibly foolish. This is the farthest place you could possibly imagine from Xekreia. Did you hear those noises?” He approached them, closing the distance.

Reah’s eyes widened slightly, “The sea... the beach... Amok the Destroyer,” she said, looking at the lifeless creature lying crushed on the ground.

Even if it all makes sense, all the clues from my dreams are useless. There is nothing I can do... I have already tried doing what I interpreted from my dreams, but it only leads to another failure. Countless failures. I can only save Kiriya and myself. But for how long? I... I am tired...
