Introspection and Growth

Introspection and Growth

Johan woke up looking at a grey and unfamiliar ceiling. The first thing he felt when he woke up was the warm breath of Clara as he had her curled up to his chest. He felt her body laying over his, though not entirely on top of him. He looked at the sleeping brown haired woman with slight confusion.

She was quite pretty even as she slept. Johan was a bit confused about how he gotten into this position however. He was certain that they hadn't done anything, given the lack of nudity, yet he also was not sure how he wound up in her bed.

The last thing Johan remembered was laying on his back, staring up at Clara as she was talking. Things became hazy after that however, and he wasn't sure what exactly she had said at the time, just that she looked a bit flustered.

Either way, Johan needed to do some other things today. He gently moved Clara off of his chest, noticing that she had drooled on him a bit in her sleep. He simply sighed, got out of bed, and covered her up. After getting up, he walked over to the central table, taking out his wooden ring.

Setting the simple wooden ring down, he began to work. He had seen Clara imbue before, and though he had been freaked out by what it had felt like, it wasn't as though he wasn't paying attention. Johan thus, began to channel his mana, noticing immediately the change in how it moved compared to before. He was already aware of his manaspace being almost twice what it had been due to the Construct, but he hadn't noticed that he was able to feel his internal mana as clearly as he was able to now, he hadn't yet used it since before now, as he had fallen asleep immediately after creating his 1st Construct.

The way his mana flowed was odd, and uncomfortable, to him, so he adjusted the way it was flowing until it felt better, quickly making it so that it flowed smoother and more powerfully. It seemed that his Construct made it so that he could feel things related to mana more keenly than he had been able to prior. Johan then finally began to channel it for what he wanted to do.

He was planning to imbue the ring with healing magics, this was in the hope to improve his natural regeneration. Although the majority mana he was using was external it required Johan's personal flavor of mana to attune it for him to utilize it.

Johans mana quickly pulled mana from the air to aid it in the goal, the temperature rapidly decreased in a matter of minutes as a large amount of water mana came forth to aid him. Johan quickly stopped pulling mana, realizing that his efficacy in this process had grown tremendously in the last night, probably due to his manaspace increasing drastically. Manaspace was the area of influence a mage had, and thus, with his influence grown, Johan was now able to pull far more mana from his surroundings.

Johan then slowly created the spell form in the air from the water mana he had called forth. It was rather quick as the mana created what he wanted it to, forming the spell in a single fluid motion.

With this, Johan then started the actual imbuement process. It wasn't super difficult, he simply started to create something similar to the mana veins he had made internally, but instead creating it with the ring as the base for it. After he connected the spell to it, the ring pulled it into itself, making a hole in the manaspace that, with his improved sense of mana, Johan could tell was closing as soon as it had formed, though it still made him fell sick.

From what Johan recalled from what he'd read about enchantments and imbuements, Enchantments were semi-permanent, while Imbuements needed recharged every now and again.

Although Johan was sure that if he really wanted to he could make this ring enchanted as opposed to imbued, he also knew that it would be much more arduous at his current level, not to mention it likely wasn't that worth it. It was difficult to make a mana gathering object on a small item, required on enchantments to supply mana, such as the ring he was using.

Johan would revisit that aspect one day in the future perhaps, but for now, he just wanted to continue to learn more things, specifically things he could do now, and not later. As much as he enjoyed learning about spatial magic, he also wanted to be able to utilize that knowledge, but as of the moment he couldn't, same with summoning, and enchanting. Johan did recall something Nath had said a while ago though.

Nath had said that Johan should learn some form of combat magics. Perhaps now would be a good time to do that? Maybe he would use fire or wind for it? It wouldn't hurt to learn about new mana types.

Johan decided to put those thoughts out for now, instead focusing on putting the second spell he wanted to use onto the ring. This time it was a light spell, so Johan created the light construct, noticing it also had an accelerated gathering speed. It only took a minute or so before he had enough light mana to do as he wished.

Johan created the light spell form and quickly attached it to the ring before he lost too much of the mana. Once it attached to the ring, the spell stopped leaking mana into the air, and was held in. Johan saw this, and was curious about it, deciding that would be good to look into later, so that he could store light mana even better. Perhaps it would be similar to the space mana construct that the summoning book described.

Johan slid the ring onto his forefinger on his right hand, which was the finger he had tried it on before he had bought it earlier that week, and it fit nicely onto it. Once it had settled there, Johan felt a slightly cool and simultaneously lukewarm feeling run from his finger through the rest of his body, it felt almost like being in a pool on a summer day, or maybe a bit like heatstroke. Almost immediately after this feeling came over him, he felt various aches and pains around his body, some of which he hadn't realized were there, correct themselves, then the energy subsided.

"Wow..." Johan muttered. "That felt nice." It was like getting a professional massage, as the pains just dissipated in moments. It likely wouldn't be strong enough to fix something like a broken bone, but it would take it from a month to heal to 3 weeks probably. It was quite worth it. Perhaps he would read about whether he could have multiple of the same type of magically imbued item on him, or if such would have any negative effects

With that thought, Johan left the workshop, making sure he closed the door firmly, and headed towards David's to let everyone know he was fine.

Gerald was sitting next to Eloise in a small but nice looking parlor. On one side of the room sat a nice grandfather clock, and in front of him, Gerald saw a well built wooden coffee table and a bit beyond that, in which an older man sat, was a pair of nice plush chairs, one red, and the other a faded green. It gave Gerald the feeling he had felt when he was a boy visiting his grand parents.

"You do understand that I want to be paid for what I had given you, right, Nathanial?" The Madam asked, although it sounded more of a demand than question with the tone she was using.

"And here I thought you were just giving an old friend a gift." Nath replied, bitterly.

"Did you seriously expect me to not come knocking for the price? You know that I don't give gifts, even if I don't necessarily say the price it shouldn't be hard to infer."

"Well, what would you like then? We don't have much in Basin you know."

"I can sense mana from another mage here. Where are they?" She demanded.

"Ah, well, I can't give you them. If you know about me you'll know that I've only ever taken on 2 disciples. The mage you seek would be my 3rd." Nath gave a grim smile. "If you seek to take my disciple from me... Well, I'll be certain to prevent you from doing anything to truly harm them."

"Ah... A new disciple? You, Nathanial Grysfel? How talented must they be for a man like you to take them in?" Eloise asked incredulous at the fact that Nath would have taken a new disciple.

"They are quite talented. At first I only wished to teach them the basics, but they went above and beyond in every task they were given. Truly a person who will become great in time."

"The way you speak of them makes me want to meet them all the more." The madam gave a large smile.

Gerald hoped that she would never meet the mage Nath spoke about. After all what person would want their children anywhere near someone like her? He simply listened as the Madam continued to fish for information.
