Chapter 5

I woke up with the light of morning just starting to peak over the horizon. I was worried that I had just passed out without worrying about my own safety last night. Thinking about yesterday my heart started to ache again and my eyes started to water with unshed tears.

I stamped down on these emotions of grief and solidified my resolve. An iron will continue to grow inside me, the last tears I would let myself shed over my past rolled down my face. I would get justice for everything my mother was forced to go through.

The pain and grief would never disappear, but I forced them to fade as a simmering rage took its place in my heart. I may be weak now, but I will grow stronger. I will not forget my Oath of Vengeance!

Apparently even the world is recognizing my commitment, but if I want to be able to reach my goals I need to get up and start moving forward. My stomach decided to take this moment to voice its complaints by emitting a loud grumbling sound, I didn't realize how hungry and thirsty I was. I turned around looking for my backpack but couldn't find it anywhere. Looking down at myself, I wasn't even wearing my original clothes. I was wearing some type of tough leather tunic, and some loose pants that felt like some type of canvas material. On my feet I noticed some leather boots in a style I had only ever seen in video games or in history books.

Seriously? Blaise couldn't even have left me with my supplies. While cursing at Blaise and my own stupidity I remembered the bag icon in the corner of my vision, I stopped my hand before I could smack myself with it and focused on it.

It was like opening a bag of holding in any RPG ever, but the spaces showed up in my head, which was nice since it left my vision free. It was 36 squares wide and 36 squares deep, it was huge! And there was actually stuff inside.

Note x1

Wow, nice! I had some items to start off with, I was worried how I was going to level up and get stronger if I had to start fighting creatures with my firsts. I tried imagining a piece of jerky in my hand and it appeared! Sweet having an inventory will be so helpful, I'd hate to have to lug everything around, especially since Blaise stole my backpack.

I tried to take a bite of the jerky, but it was super tough, and my mouth was so dry I couldn't even work up even a tiny bit of saliva. I kneeled next to the water and stared down into the water, wondering if it was safe to drink. The water perfectly reflected my face back to me, there were some changes, but it was still me. My jet-black hair was a bit longer than I usually wear it with it laying just below my ears. My eyes were what shocked me the most, they used to be a nice natural brown color but now they were bright emerald, green that appeared to have an almost unnatural quality to them. My nose was still a bit sharp but average, and my skin maintained its light golden tan. Although I noted with a bit of satisfaction that my skin seemed to be perfectly clear now, no more acne scars, and the scar on my chin from a bicycle accident when I was a kid was also gone.

I wasn't going to complain, hell most women I know would kill for skin like this. I will have to get used to my eyes, but they do look kind of cool. I reached my hands down and cupping a handful of water brought it to my dry and cracked lips. I drank my fill of water while praying that I wouldn't get some alien disease and end up with demonic diarrhea or something. After satiating my thirst, I summoned the empty waterskin from my inventory and filled it from the pond. I didn't see any other water sources nearby, and even if I got demonic diarrhea, without water I would die pretty fast without even getting attacked.

Now with my thirst taken care of I placed a piece of jerky in my mouth and observed it at the same time.

NOTIFICATION

Jerky made of an unknown type of meat; Edible

Well in the past month I've eaten weirder things, at least the jerky didn't taste horrible. While I was gnawing on it, I pulled out the three unknown books and placed them on the ground in front of me, and lastly, I removed the note. The books where each made with a different leather, and the first two had titles in a language I couldn't read. Opening the books to a random page, all I saw was random symbols that I couldn't make any sense of, so I closed them and looked at the third book. It had a rich black leather cover with no title, no decorations covered it, and it looked almost brand new. I opened the book to its first page and written in flowing penmanship in English was 'For Hawk Direveil may this help you on your travels'. It was unsigned, and if this was from Blaise he would have written a lot more and would have made sure I knew it was from him. No, this had to be from someone else but who?

Interested to find out more I flipped to the next page, but instead of seeing the page a gold window popped up in front of me blocking the book.
