Chapter 21

Once they reached his bedroom, Richard said, "I'll call the servants to prepare for your bath."

It was normal for nobles to have their servants tend to their daily needs, such as cooking, bathing, etc.

"You don’t need to do that. I want to be alone."

But he wasn't used to it. ‘ See my naked body for free? No thanks.’

Seth closed the door and looked at his bedroom in amazement. The bedroom was as big as his house in his previous life. At the center of the room stood a four-poster bed with deep crimson drapes, pillows, and a thick, quilted duvet.

It was tempting to go to sleep immediately, but he hadn’t gotten a proper shower after traveling for so many days.

So he went to the dressing room, which displayed rows upon rows of clothing racks with gowns and suits, each more opulent than the last. But it was too gaudy for him. He found a relatively simple outfit and placed it on the sofa.

After taking a cold shower, he looked in the mirror. The long blonde hair reached his waist. The hair was too long for his liking.

As he couldn’t find a pair of scissors, he threw himself on the comfy bed and fell asleep.

It was in the afternoon when he heard someone knocking at the door.

As he rubbed his temples, trying to alleviate the headache that had plagued him since waking up, there was a gentle knock at the door.

With a sigh, he called out, "Come in."

The door swung open to reveal Noel, Leon, and Celia standing in the doorway.

"Were you sleeping?"

"How did you know?"

"I can see from your bed hair." Celia smiled in amusement as Seth tidied his hair. "I’m sorry for disturbing you, Seth. But we’re planning to go out and buy something to eat."

Her tone changed, and she was suddenly cautious. Whether it was because she heard the rumors of his trash personality from the other servants or how they were cautious towards him, he did not know.

“I found Noel and Leon while trying to find you. They said they’re hungry as well.”

“That butler is so suspicious. I don’t like him.” Leon said.

Noel chimed in, "He did ask whether we wanted to eat, but we didn’t want to trouble him."

Seth was glad that they preferred to trust him.

“Then let’s go together. I know a good place.”

Seth didn’t forget to bring the coins that were on the table in the bedroom.

They rode a carriage together with a single driver in front. The restaurant was nestled just across a famous headquarters called Silver Skulls Guild. The guild was protecting the Birds of a Feather people, who were working under it and oversaw any of their suspicious activities that would get questioned by the Royal Army.

The restaurant had wooden beams and large, arched windows. A signboard with calligraphy showed the words "Zen Dining Hall", the same favorite restaurant that Haeseong always dined in.

As they stepped through the door, he was met with a momentary glance from the waitress, who seemed a tad irritated at his presence, likely recognizing his bad reputation.

‘It’s not surprising that there aren't many people who like me since whenever Seth got drunk, he would smash the restaurants when he overheard people gossiping about him being a useless son of a marquess.’ Seth did not care about the attitude of the waitress.

She quickly masked her annoyance with a polite smile. "Good evening. Welcome to Zen Dining Hall. How may I assist you today?"

"Give me any of your finest offerings," Seth said with a normal tone, but the waitress thought he was being arrogant.

Her expression crumpled slightly as she nodded. "Certainly. Please follow me."

They made their way to the second floor, where the dining area became a spacious room. Tables dressed in crisp linens were thoughtfully arranged with a petite vase of freshly cut flowers.

They settled on one of the tables facing the window.

Celia fidgeted as she looked at the well-dressed people around them and then at the pouch she brought.

“I thought we were buying from the stalls outside.”

“Why? I think this place is nice.” Leon said.

Noel swung her legs while looking out the window. “Oh, there’s a beastman outside!”

“I don’t think I can afford to pay for the meal,” Celias said with a sigh.

‘Oh, she’s worried about that. After arriving at the marquess’ estate, naturally, I can use all the money available. The last thing that the marquess lacked was money. Being rich is nice.’

Seth replied. “It’s on me. Think of it as repayment for helping me release the dragon.”

“I did it for free though…” Celia muttered. But she also did not reject his offer as she did not want to disappoint the twins who were looking forward to their meals.

“Thank you.”

The dishes arrived and the table was soon full of plates; Dragonfire Roast, Spring Salad, Ale-Braised Stew, corn soup, Fruit Sorbet etc.

“Wow, there’s so much!”

“Fruit Sorbet… yummy.”

The twins were excited but still waited for Seth to pick up his spoon.

Celia looked at the dishes on the tables and asked worriedly, “Isn’t this too much? I wonder if we can finish it all.”

“If you guys can’t finish it, I’ll devour everything.” Leon impatiently said.

“Uh…”

As they began eating, Seth turned to gaze out of the window, his eyes scanning the bustling street below.

The scene was filled with the usual commotion of a busy city, but something caught his attention. Three familiar faces, the same people who abandoned him in the first dungeon.

His heart quickened, and a mixture of emotions surged within him. Anger and betrayal all welled up at once.

The team leader of the Birds of a Feather was leaving the building with a man with a red and questionable hairstyle. He was the Silver Skulls Guild Leader, Wyman. He was a loud man with a trashy personality who got his position by using his father’s connections as an influential merchant.

There was a familiar woman following behind them, checking out the colorful rings with big jewels on her fingers.

Seth hadn’t forgotten her name. Enid, the mage of the Birds of a Feather.

Maybe because he was glaring at them too intensely, the team leader looked in his direction. He froze, and then there was a subtle change in his expression as though he couldn’t believe that Seth was still alive.

Seth smiled back at him in response. ‘Ah, I can’t wait to kill all of them. Unfortunately, I haven't made all of the preparations.’

Seth wasn't blinded by revenge so he didn't rush in and attack them. He knew he didn't have enough fighting capability.

“What’s this? Young master Seth, did you have a wife and kids secretly behind the marquess’ back? I didn’t know you had such a unique hobby!” A loud voice shattered the calm atmosphere. The voice belonged to Nick, a cannon fodder in The Summoned Hero.

His mocking tone grated on Seth's nerves, and he could feel his patience wearing thin.

Celia and Noel stopped eating as they were confused by the sudden disturbance.

Leon glared at Nick while shoving a piece of meat into his mouth. “Who’s this old man?”

"Y-You peasant! What did you say?!"

‘What is this dude doing?’ Seth felt his head hurt.

There were such people at the beginning of the novel. A side character whose role was to pick a fight with the protagonist and then get himself beaten up until his mother couldn’t recognize him.

Nick put his hands on his hips. “Are you ignoring me? I forgot. Your mother died early, and the marquess doesn't acknowledge a useless son, right, so there’s no one to teach you manners.”

It was a typical line of a provoking villain. He knew that Seth would get enraged and retaliate but he was weak and Nick could beat him up anytime he wanted.

“You’re right, young master Nick!”

"A trash adventurer who can only kill E-rank monsters shouldn't be qualified to be called a noble."

The lackeys following Nick tried to ignite the fire.

“Don't be too harsh on him. Even though Seth is only able to kill E-rank monsters, he is still contributing to the country and helping keep people safe.” a soft and calm voice interrupted them.

"Sixth prince, you're being too nice. People like him who can only cower behind his daddy's back won't know the hardships we have to go through and risk our lives to kill high-ranking monsters."

The sixth prince of the Melianor Kingdom, Prince Gabell. A mini-villain that would later get killed, as stated in The Summoned Hero.

There was a smile on his face as he tried to defend Seth in front of Nick and his lackeys. Even so, Seth wasn't pleased to meet him.

"It’s been a long time, Seth. You’ve been busy being an adventurer, and you haven't attended any gatherings lately. We didn't have much opportunity to exchange greetings with you." Prince Gabell said it with a downcast expression. "By the way, won't you introduce us to your companions?"

“I have no obligation to tell you,” Seth replied without a care.

Talking with a mini-villain wouldn't result in a good ending. Seth did not want to associate himself and his people with someone raising a dead flag.

“Hey, why don’t you respond politely? You’re talking to a prince!” Nick rebutted angrily.

Seth did not care as he continued sitting and showed no respect. “What does that have anything to do with me? If you are here to mock me, I have no interest in listening. For fuck sake, get lost. Your existence itself is annoying.”

“This bastard! Just because you are the son of a marquess, do you think you can say anything you want?”

"There's something called freedom of speech in this kingdom."

Seth could see Prince Gabell was silently enjoying their arguments.

‘Son of a bitch. Being kind and polite is only a facade for him.’ He gritted his teeth and tried to stay calm.

However, not everyone was as patient as him.

A plate of food smashed into Nick's face.

The sudden crash of ceramic echoed through the restaurant, followed by gasps of astonishment from the patrons. Bits of food and broken porcelain scattered around him and hit the clothes of his lackeys behind him and Prince Gabell.

The man's face turned a shade of crimson as he wiped food remnants from his cheeks.

"You bitch!!"

"N-Noel?!" Celia closed her mouth with her hand in disbelief.

The situation drew the attention of everyone in the vicinity.

Noel, who just threw the plate, sat back down with a frown. Leon was frightened and stopped chewing the food in his mouth.

"It's rude to disturb people eating." Noel was not afraid as she glared at Nic, who was drenched with the corn soup.

Nick lunged forward, his hand raised threateningly as if he intended to strike Noel in retaliation.

Seth immediately stepped between Noel and him and threw a punch as strong as he could.

“Ack!”

“Young master Nick!!”

“Oh?”

Nick flew and hit the wall. He held his bleeding mouth and felt that his teeth fell out.

He yelled in a rage. “Son of a bitch!”

Seth grabbed a wooden chair and walked towards him.

“Young master Seth, wait!” The two lackeys tried to stop him.

He elbowed and kicked them in the face until they were knocked out on the floor. “I-I didn’t even do anything!”

Before Nick could retaliate, Seth raised the chair in the air and crushed him.

"Stop! Stop!"

"Ugh, enough!"

“Wait! Wait! I- I’m sorry!”

One time, two times, three times… the man lost consciousness. Seth did not know whether he was still alive or not.

"That's enough," Prince Gabell said firmly, his voice cutting through the tense atmosphere. "We're in a public place, and I won't tolerate violence here. Besides, this isn't the behavior of a nobleman."

Prince Gabell finally decided to step in after the restaurant’s owner and security had come to the scene. He looked at Seth suspiciously. He realized that Seth was more brutal than he knew.

They flinched as Seth kicked the unconscious man for the last time.

“Causing a bloody scene in my restaurant like this! E-even if you are a noble, this is unacceptable!” The restaurant owner wanted to curse but he was also afraid of ruining his image in front of the prince and noble. Normally, he would have got the security to drag the one who caused the commotion.

“What are you talking about? What I'm doing is called self-defense. He was the first one who attacked us.” Seth shrugged nonchalantly.

“W-what? But all I saw is that you've been beating him up for a while.”

"Did you? You haven't been here since the beginning. Well, if you don’t trust me, you can ask the others.”

The restaurant owner looked around at the people watching the scene but no one said anything.

Seth gave him a few gold coins. The eyes of the restaurant owner sparkled as he took it without hesitation. It was more than enough for the compensation for the broken bowl, and chair and the potential loss of customers from the disturbance.

Prince Gabell stared at Seth as he brought Celia and the twins left the place.

The people who watched the commotion avoided them as they entered the carriage. It was quiet in the vehicle for a while.

"Didn't you two recognize the prince?" Seth asked the twins.

"Prince..?"

"We've never met with all of the other princes and princesses before."

"I see."

The king had many children. Since Noel and Leon had their appearances changed, Prince Gabell didn't notice them either. If he knew, he would report them to the king.

Noel looked at Seth hesitantly and full of guilt. “Mister, I’m sorry. Because of me..."

“It’s not your fault, sis. They deserve it. I wanted to throw the plate too, but it's a waste of food.” Leon hugged her in an attempt to comfort her.

“Next time, you should’ve told us first if you wanted to hit him. At least we know when to protect each other when something similar happens again. Right, Seth?” Instead of scolding them, Celia was encouraging them to be mischievous instead. It was a bit different from the Celia that Seth read in the novel.

“There won’t be a next time,” Seth said sternly.

They were sullen.

He did not care about the people who mocked him as there were a lot of them. If he had to punch all of them, then he would also be punching the king. He knew it was better to ignore people who bothered him as long as they did not cross certain boundaries, or else it could be a problem in the future.

For example, right now.

The carriage suddenly stopped moving.

“This is the marquess's son’s carriage!”

“Kill the driver first!”

‘So fast? I'm sure that they are either Nick's people or the assassins hired by the group Birds of a Feather.’

A group of people with their faces concealed under soiled sheets surrounded the carriage and brandished their swords. Panic coursed through the crowd on the street as people scattered in all directions.

“What’s happening?”

“I didn’t bring my dagger with me!”

“Are they people from earlier?”

Celia and the twins were panicking inside the carriage. The sound of chaos from outside reached their ears. Shouts, screams, and the clash of weapons filled the air.

Seth closed back the curtain and sighed.

“Kuaaak!”

“Kill him!”

"This man, why is he so strong?!"

"No one said that a skilled guard was protecting him!"

“Ignore the driver! Get the person inside the carriage!”

Celia and the twins peeked outside from the window.

"Amazing! I didn't know that a driver can also be good at fighting."

“Shouldn’t we help him?”

"Wah!"

The scream suddenly intensified, as though they had seen something terrifying.

‘Something doesn’t feel right.’ But before Seth could turn to look outside, the surrounding was enveloped with silence.

From inside the carriage, Seth asked leisurely, “One, are you done?”

There was a reply from outside. “...I'm done, young master.”

"Then let's go home."

The carriage moved again.

He was one of the strongest guards of the marquess's estate and helped Agnes in the novel. His skills were comparable to those of Agnes. The marquess knew his son's personality would offend people, so he assigned One as his guard. Therefore, at the moment, Seth wasn't afraid that he would get assassinated.

The three people in the carriage were baffled by the aftermath of the failed assassination.

“Is this a common situation for you?”

“As long as we have One, we'll be safe.”

"Oh, I want to learn how to kill from him!"

"He kills people with one strike. If I can do that as well…”

"Uh, guys…"

After the skirmish, they continued on their journey. The carriage's wheels creaked back to life as it resumed its course, leaving behind the unconscious assassins.

‘My stomach is filled, so it’s time to train.’
