Chapter - 5 - Hints of the Past

It’s a new day in a new world and soon we will be starting our new adventure! Living in the forest away from society has been very tough but those days will soon come to an end. No more showers in the coldest river in existence, no more itchy clothes made from monsters with a hygiene level of 0, no more eating foul tasting grimy meat.

Ahhh my excitement was through roof! There’s so many things to be excited about I can’t possibly name them all. I started by packing the few things I own. Mostly magic crystals with an extra set of cloths and underwear. Mizuki just turned wolf mode and had no need to take any belongings anyway. When she turned into her humanoid form she would automatically have the comfiest cloths in her mind equipped. When I asked about how it worked I was disappointed to find out it was just a racial skill rather than one to do with space magic.

My progress on space magic was going well. Right now I am able to create a inventory just like I hoped.

Ability

Skill Name Skill Level Skill Information Inventory Mastered A different space created just for safe storage.

My first thoughts with my new inventory was to make sure I had a constant supply of blood on me at all times. After slowly carving out a wooden bowl I filled it with monster blood and stored it within my inventory. When the day ended and I needed to refill my mana I pulled out and drank the bowl of blood. To my surprise nothing happened. After a few more tests I figured out that I need to literally drink blood directly from the host.

The way I reached this conclusion was simple. I learned that drinking blood from a recently deceased animal, as nasty as that sounds refills less mana/health than drinking blood from a live one. It only took 5 minutes for the blood to lose its healing effects. Drinking blood from an unconscious monster was a weird experience and as always monster blood tasted disgusting.

Drinking blood everyday isn’t as bad as it sounds either. To be honest I kind of look forward to it. I swear I’m developing a neck fetish is that even a thing? My only fear is that I don’t want to become desensitised to drinking blood. I mean when you eat something every single day I’m sure at one point you’ll be extremely sick and tired of it but fortunately that hasn’t happened to me yet. Maybe it’s because I’m a vampire?

I also did a few tests on my inventory. I tried storing the unconscious panther and to my surprise it worked. It seems like my inventory is truly a different dimension. The only downside to this was that my mana was draining away like a waterfall. When I became low on mana only the panther was forcefully kicked out of my inventory. An unconscious panther and a vampire with critical levels of mana, let’s just say the panther didn’t live to tell the tale.

Other than my inventory I also developed my own version of warp gates. The warp gates as you would imagine look like portals that tear the fabrics of reality. I can create these warp gates to any location that I have previously visited. Creating them requires a lot of accuracy and concentration so using them in combat requires skill and focus. I should be able to do it if I keep practising. I have to say manipulating time is so much easier than manipulating space.

Fufufufu but in good news now when I take a bath I can wash my back with ease, I can also stab my opponents back with ease too.

I also tested to see what would happen if I closed the warp gate with something halfway inside it. Of course I used a dead monster. When the warp gate closed I was expecting the monster to be sliced in half. However the warp gate just cracked and I lost quite a bit off mana in backlash.

The situation between me and Mizuki changed too. Mizuki made a pact with me and now we’re connected. It’s hard to describe but I just know were she is and what mood she’s in and it’s the same for her. I can now also use telepathy, Mizuki already had this ability.

Mizuki uses 4 forms. The first is her humanoid form. Quite self explanatory she looks human but instead of human ears she has wolf ears on top of her head. She also has a huge bushy tail, I have my suspicions that she made it extra fluffy just for me. This form of hers focuses on her lightning magic and has lower defence than her wolf forms.

The next form is her most badass, her overpowered I’m gunna fuck your day up form which I call her OP form. I know I suck at naming don’t judge me. This form is when she’s fully grown in her wolf form and she’s at her most powerful.

As you would expect she also a normal sized wolf form. This form ranges from the size of a dire wolf to a huge dog. This is just named wolf form. In any of her wolf forms her senses are heightened to the max. From sensing blood lust to magical presences she can sense anything for miles.

Last but least my absolute favourite form which is her wolf cub form. When I first saw her turn into this form I had to use every inch of manliness left within in my soul to not scream like a little girl. I did end up hugging and cuddling with her like crazy. No regrets, I’ve always been a dog lover even even on earth.

Image: What mizuki cub form looks like! Most adorable thing iv seen this week. Imagine this lil guy sprawled out on top of our MCs head just chilling. Best mascot!

I also convinced Mizuki to use this form more often as she could just perch herself on top of my head and let me carry her instead of walking. When she’s in this form she’s like a constant radar on top of my head. She tells me if anything approaches from wild animals, monsters and magical beasts.

Now before we leave this forest for good I want to check out the tomb I first awoke in. I hope to find a clue in their that could lead me into finding my previous body’s identity. I’m not too bothered about my identity but being a princess might warrant a political mess if I show up out of no where. Also being sealed was a question in itself. Who sealed me? Was it me or was it someone else and why was I sealed? Too many questions and too little to go on.

When we reached the tomb it was still dark out and the sun had yet to rise. Hopefully exploring the tomb wouldn’t take too long, this way we could make the most of daylight.

“Mizuki do you sense anything inside?”

“No this this cave system seems to be enchanted to stop any creatures from wandering in. It seems like whoever put you in your slumber didn’t want you to be found.”

With our curiosity brimming we entered the pitch black caves. Mizuki was lying on top of my head staying alert to anything that moved. She would have turned into her wolf form however there wasn’t a lot of space to navigate so she stayed in her cub form. As we slowly made our way deeper and deeper inside the cave system we came across several magical traps.

“Yuki there’s another trap ahead. It seems to be floor spikes that are activated through the pressure plates. The traps might be able to sense the use of magic too.”

“En, thanks Mizuki.”

Taking her seriously I slow down to a snails pace. My eyesight may be amazing but Mizuki has experience on her side. I had no idea which part of the floor was the pressure plate. It wasn’t just a square tile on the floor the traps were well camouflaged and could prove to be fatal.

“Stop, the it seems the trap is connected to the whole passageway. Stepping on the plate will probably trap us both in this tunnel. The floor will spike and the ceiling will collapse. Who ever put you in here wasn’t taking any chances.”

“Okay, hold on tight.”

Slowing down time here could set of the traps as the traps might sense mana along with weight, using space magic won’t work too. Looks like I’m going to have to stop time for a while.

Stopping time I hold on to Mizuki even though she’s firmly latched herself onto my head. Her paws are too soft to really hurt me I’m thankful she isn’t using her claws.

With time stopped I charge through the tunnel at full speed. Ironically I don’t have a lot of time before I run out of mana, so I need to get through this tunnel fast.

Arriving at the end of the tunnel I have around a third of my mana left.

“Amazing, you blow this ones mind every time you do that.” I hear Mizuki mumbling some praise which she doesn’t do very often.

“Ow! Hahaha, stop it!” Realising that I heard her she playfully bit my ear before I could get all smug. I would have started to tickle her but nows not the time.

Walking further into the tunnels I notice that the smell off blood that permeated in the air last time was now gone. Now the cave smelled like mouldy damp earth.

Coming to an opening we decide to take a small break. I wanted to be ready for anything so I asked Mizuki if I could feed from her.

“Mizuki can I refill my mana? I want to be ready for anything ahead.” I ask nervously.

Seeing her nod she starts to change into her humanoid form. Drinking from her cub form would be impractical. When she changes between forms her whole body shines bright like electricity. The change only takes a moment. Now in her humanoid form she presents me her neck by pulling back her hair and leaning towards me.

Closing in on her neck I couldn’t help getting nervous. I’ve done this a handful of times over the year we’ve spent a lot of time together but I still can’t control my emotions when feeding from her. Naturally my heart starts beating faster with the anticipation of just being close to her. Her scent which remind you of the forest. Then just watching the blood travelling within her neck makes my throat dry up. My whole body starts begging for just a drop of blood.

I know she can feel my excitement my anticipation and desire but it doesn’t stop me. The future me can handle the consequences. Softly biting into her neck the godlike liquid trickles into my mouth. Sucking away like a baby I quickly fill up my mana. I can’t help feel disappointed.

After the awkward feed we decide to continue deeper into the cave system. The traps down here were easier to avoid but if triggered would be fatal. They were traps that set off when mana was detected. Since the both of us had eyes that would put night vision goggles to shame we had no need to waste mana in pointless spells for lighting.

Eventually we reached tomb in which I first awoke. Looking around the room this time I paid more attention to all the details. When I first awoke I thought I had been kidnapped which made me urgently escape.

The room was empty other than another doorway and the tomb which lay in the middle. It seems the path I used to escape the first time was actually a tunnel used for escaping. From my memories this trap free tunnel would lead them to the cave entrance.

Making my way towards the tomb I realise it’s just an overly decorated coffin. Should have seen that coming to be honest.

Looking over the decorations I just can just see fancy patterns but no symbols or anything else that would associate one with a country.

I checked inside the coffin for any secret compartments anything that would give a clue towards revealing my identity but unfortunately nothing was found. Getting slightly pissed off I slam the coffin shut. Using too much force the coffin is broken free from its restraints that glued it to the floor.

As the coffin slid across the floor to my surprise I could see a trapdoor was hidden underneath.

“Mizuki I found something over here!” I shouted out to the wolf cub who was busy exploring on her own.

“Do you sense anything? Any traps or living creatures?” I was still cautious of this place and refused to let my guard down.

Mizuki got straight to work and started sniffing the trapdoor. A moment later she started to cutely shake her head. “This one doesn’t sense any traps. Hopefully this is what we seek, maybe a space used for storage.”

Opening the trapdoor with a loud creaking noise we stared into abyss below. As the famous saying goes, stare into the abyss and the abyss stares back. Several pairs of glowing red eyes started to reveal themselves. This instantly put me and Mizuki into our combat modes. Making us look like idiots several screeching bats flew out from the room below. I imagined them having smug smiles as they had successfully given a jump scare.

“This one still senses nothing else down there, this one presumes it’s safe to go down there.” Mizuki said embarrassingly, escaping my glare she hopped into the the secret room below.

I immediately followed with sigh. Jumping down I was greeted by basement type room caked in dust. It was worse than the coffin room above. This room looked like it hadn’t been touched in decades.

Walking towards the end of the room I saw something that gave me the creeps. On a black metal pedestal there was a mini shrine built with a picture of me in the middle. The picture was surrounded by used up candles and incense sticks.

The closer I approached the scene the creepier I felt.

“Yuki be careful. This one can sense a magical tool up ahead. This one doesn’t feel a dangerous presence but its best to be careful.” Hearing Mizuki’s warning put me on edge.

Approaching the shrine I slowly pick up the picture. The picture was taken when I was just a child. In the picture I was happily dancing in an open field of roses. To my surprise the picture was very clean especially for this place. Was it protected by magic.

Starting to inspect the picture I was hoping to find any clues of where it was taken, when suddenly the picture went black. Startled I drop the picture on the shrine and jump back. Mizuki was carefully watching the picture to see what would happen next.

Surprisingly the picture started shining forcing us to cover our eyes. When the light dimmed down what remained was an necklace. The necklace was a crimson crystal shaped like an egg. The crystal egg was also flat. The crimson crystal was then surrounded by dark metal that looked roots from an ancient tree.

Inspecting the necklace I couldn’t feel anything other than the magical presence it gave off. Mizuki was better with sensing mana so when I showed it to her even she was surprised.

“This necklace has an enchantment on it. What the enchantment is however, is something this one can’t answer.”

Storing the necklace in my inventory we checked the shrine for anything else. Finding nothing we decide to leave this creepy place and finally start our adventure!
