Chapter 41 - Her

She stared through the fire at the strange human.

A human spinning in circles as they held her savior close.

Her savior that had healed her from the brink of death.

Why were they spinning?

She could not say.

And she was not feeling jealous.

Not at all.

She stared at them with slight mirth and interest. Wondering what had caused this, eruption of emotion.

A human that had been nothing but, weird.

At first, finding the human a sight almost as scary as the other human monster.

Then, turning out to be no less scary than a big pup.

And now? She could not quite place her feelings for the human.

They seemed so, safe? Kind? Nice?

She did not know.

All she did know was that they gave her food, and she hadn’t eaten this well for-

She could not say how long.

She would use the human for as long as she needed. And leave once they stopped being useful.

Or, at least, that was what she was telling herself.

For after the human and her savior had spun, rolled around in the snow, hunted each other and been totally weird for an hour or two.

She had felt, happy.

A feeling she pushed down and ignored, going to sleep as quickly as she could.

The next day, the human seemed to be in a good, mood? Or at least, very un-vigilant. Walking with brisk steps through the white, cold and inhospitable landscape as if skipping through a warm summers field.

She had to be doubly and extra vigilant for any threats that they might pass, as the human was simply too stupid right now to understand their predicament.

Something that left her truly, and awfully, exhausted.

That night, she tried to stay half-awake, keep watch as she always did.

But found sleep taking her whole and fully.

Not before spotting the human seemingly dancing around with her savior.

The next morning, she found the human lying beside her!

Beside her! How dare they!

Immediately, she woke and growled at the human.

Something they seemed to ignore, or not care about.

And she felt her body grow tense.

How dared the human!

So she jumped at them, pushing them down and wanting their utter surrender.

But to her, utter shock. The human instead turned to look at her, and grabbed her.

Grabbed her!

How dared they!

But the grab felt, rather nice.

She felt-

Safe.

Involuntarily she started grumbling from deep within, warmth spreading like a flowers bloom on a summer’s day.

And she felt, so, unbelievably-

Ashamed.

Twice now she’s exposed herself to the human.

How dared he make her feel like- like. Like this!

She would not have it, struggling away from his wonderful grip and pouncing up towards a nearby tree, hissing down at the stupid human.

The human doing that thing with their face that made their mouth turn upwards.

She stared down at the stupid human, thinking of many ways to get her revenge.

Spotting the human turning away, ruffling around in his pack, then turning back towards her.

Holding meat.

An acceptable offering.

She presumed she could forgive the human.

It was, after all, very nice being near them.

And she presumed that it would not be that bad to be a little closer to them. Laying besides them.

The human might give her more meat that way.

No other reason.
