Chapter 3: A New Friend

Chapter 3: A New Friend

Wolf’s POV

PKing or Player Killing, I never really cared to go around and kill weaklings. It wasn’t fun to just trample on them since there was no benefit to it. However in TTH, PVP has a purpose that is beneficial to players. Kill a player is worth more XP than normal monsters while also dropping half of the Bon they have on them, as well as potions, and sometimes even their gear.

Losing Bon and items isn’t the only penalty for dying, players will also lose a level, or if they decide to resurrect at a graveyard instead running to their body their level decreases by 2. Still, to Fox and I killing other players isn’t difficult. With our level of skill and tactics, it would be simple.

Since there are too many players kill rabbits we thought it would be best to test our skills to get accustomed to them while thinning out the players. Also by killing them we decrease the compaction by lowering their level, plus I would like to finish kill those damn rabbits and move on.

{I guess we should start with those three over there} [Me]

Peeking from behind a tree I saw three players taking on a few horned rabbits. From a Berserker, Priest, and Sorcerer it what I guessed and by the looks of it each of them had a second class at most.

How could I tell, it was simple because while Fox and I were still level 1 they were all level 3. Also judging from the fact they were still killing rabbits it meant they hadn’t even finished a quest yet meaning their leveling speed was several times faster than ours.

{Brother let me initiate.} [Fox]

I nodded my confirmation and Smiling Fox raised her hands. A chilling black aura surrounded them and a ring of the same aura appeared on the ground. From the ring, two skeletons hold short swords that were covered in rust and had chipped edges crawled out.

“Go!” [Fox]

She waved her hand as she ordered her new undead servants to attack. The skeletons made clatter sounds as they ran and to our surprise were actual pretty fast. My guess they had a movement speed of 3. The three players saw the skeletons approaching but then take any action, they must think that we were just going after some rabbits.

Big mistake

The skeletons reach the most obvious target to start with, the Priest. They each brandished their swords, one landed a blow to the priest's head while the other followed up by stabbing her chest running through the poor girl’s heart.

2 yellow numbers floated up and the stunned healer’s HP already had been reduced by more than two-thirds. She cried out in panic and casting < Heal > on herself, but sadly it was a waste of time. By the time the other 2 reacted a fireball was already shot out, unable to dodge with her low movement speed the ball of fire hit reducing her HP to 0.

A flash of golden light covered both Fox and I signaling we leveled up.

{Oh, not bad we are already level 2!} [Wolf]

{Hey, maybe if we kill the other two we will level up again!} [Fox]

{Yeah, might as well besides I haven’t gotten to fight yet.} [Me]

I smiled wickedly causing both the Berserker and Sorcerer paled though Sorcerer managed to recover quickly and started to bark orders at the Berserker.

“Fuck, Nana dead, Rion I'll cover you get to the necro!” [Sorcerer]

The Berserker let out a grunt and rushed forward while the Sorcerer cast a < Wind’s Swiftness > on the charging man.

“Hey, you can be serious?” [Wolf]

I ran forward to meet the Berserker, he brandished his axe and its edge flashed, this was < Power Strike > a skill that is like < Keen Edge > and raised the power of the user’s next attack. Swing is axe I didn’t even dodge, I only shifted my body so that the axe would fall onto my shoulder.

-21

Hmm, it was weaker than I expected, but my Defense is high for this stage of the game. The Berserker let out a cried of surprise as his attack didn’t even managed to take down 10% of my HP.

“My turn, now this might sting a little!” [Me]

I activated both < Keen Edge > and < Multi Strike >, thrusting my spear forward I landed an attack on the Berserker’s chest and head.

-15

-26

I took a step back to avoid the Berserker’s axe and I noticed that a red 6 had appeared over his head indicating < Laceration > had taken effect. His HP was dropping quickly from the continuous damaged so he retreated.

Glancing over, I saw that my sister with the help of her skeletons she was fighting the Sorcerer, who seemed to also be a Warlock. He had used < Hex: Slow > on one of the skeletons relieving some pressure.

(Note: Warlocks are male witches just incase someone didn’t know.)

{You still fight?} [Me]

Fox shot me an irritated look.

{You aren’t done yet there!} [Fox]

The Berserker was nearly in tears, his group was so easily killed and now they would all lose a level. In the early stages, it wasn’t a big loss, but it would take time to recover. Many people wanted to quickly reach level 20 and leave the beginner village so they can start making a name for themselves.

Sadly, with his death, this Berserker was unlikely to gain a spot in the top ten level ranks in the village.

As the man retreated I followed, stabbing at him again. This time he managed to dodge the attack by sidestepping, but by doing that he let me get closer to him. I performed a sweeping kick tripping the Berserker and sending him to the ground.

“You bastard if you kill me, Lor-“ [Berserker]

Not caring what he had to say I flipping the spear over so that the tip faced downwards I impaled his skull. He roared in fear and tried to get up, but my spear held him down. After two more attacks, the deed was done and I leveled up again. Seemed like that guy was worth more than the others.

Looting his body I get his tunic and 11 Bon while from the other two we didn’t get any gear, but we did get 23 Bon.

{Hey, isn’t this to perfect right!?} [Me]

On all of the corpses, he found something that we had been desperately searching for, Milk Grass and Red Capped Mushrooms. Since we had to collect 40 of them each and we original had 7 Milk Grass and 4 Red Capped Mushrooms plus what these guys had we only need around 10 each.

“Oi, what are you guys looking at!?” [Me]

I glared at the players that were watching from afar. Many of them moved away while others that stay just left us alone.

{It seems we are seen as a dominating force already.} [Fox]

{Tch, how boring.} [Me]

Fox's POV

Being level 3, our stats increased quite a bit as well as allowed us to get new skills. I picked up 2 skills since the plan was to save the extra Skill points we got to spend them on upgrades.

Fire Blast Lv120 MPCool Down: 12 secondsCreates a fire ball that deals 75 (15 + Spell power) damage on impact and 65 (5 + Spell Power) as splash damage for 2 meters in radius

Armed and Dead Lv1PasssiveImproves your skeletons equipment

Since my buffs don’t seem to be needed at this point, I decide to take some more damage related skills. While my brother’s choice of skills were related to tactics.

Cheap Shot Lv110 MPCool Down: 20 secondsStuns an enemy for 3 seconds

Charge Lv112 MPCool Down: 18 secondsYou rush forward up to 4 meters with your movement speed is quadrupled

Looking at the XP required for the next level I wanted to cry. Both my brother and I need 114 XP to reach level 4, what the hell that’s not even fair.

{Brother maybe we should PK some more.} [Me]

My brother shook his head.

{No, we don’t want to make too many enemies this early. Besides we already have completed the rabbit and two gathering quest we, after we turn these quest in we can level up.} [Wolf]

I didn’t argue, he was right as we are now it would be foolish to go on a rampage. Not only that, we both need gear and potions to last longer in the wilds.

{This isn’t good.} [Wolf]

{Whats wrong?} [Me]

I tilted my head while asking. My brother clicked something then waved his hand and window opened up in front of me. It listed the top players in our village and I was surprised that at least 100 players were already level 5 and even some level 6 players. Though levels didn’t matter for the most part since we will be much stronger despite our levels being lower. Except when a player reaches level 20 they can level the village which is wear levels matter. Most dungeons have a level requirement, also weapons and armor give better effects. If the level gap is too wide players will be about to become a threat with the right gear.

{These seem to be a problem their leveling pace is too fast.} [Me]

{That’s not a big issue, we can easy take them down right now. Instead, look in the top 120 to 100 do you see anyone familiar?} [Wolf]

I did as he asked and skimmed the top 120 to 100 players. See a few names I recognized I groaned.

{Serpents Tongue Lv4 Ranked 112, Demon Cobra Lv4 Ranked 115, Doctor Forked Tongue Lv4 Ranked 109. Damn, for these guys to be in this village how annoying.} [Me]

These three players were big shots in Records. Serpent Tongue was Guild Master of one of the three strongest guilds, Venom Knights, and one of the top female players of Records. Demon Cobra and Doctor Forked Tongue were the 2 top fighters in Venom Knights. The problem wasn’t their skills, compare to Wolf and I we could take them all down at once if we felt like it. The issue was that Serpent Tongue had a crush on my brother and has asked him out in the game as well as messaging to meet him offline. Of course, Will rejected her every time but that only forced her to “work harder” as she put it.

{So, what’s the plan with them?} [Me]

{Avoid them as much as possible.} [Wolf]

I had to hold back my laughter, his response was instantaneous.

{For now let’s not worry about them. Although judging by their levels I could guess they have 4 or even 5 classes, but that isn’t a big deal. For now let’s focus on leveling. After we turn in the quests let’s go grab some potions and if possible some armor since we only have these basic clothes.} [Wolf]

{Are we going to pick up any more quests?} [Me]

{Yeah, this time I think it would be best to only pick up red quests.} [Wolf]

After a few more minutes we entered the village, it was much less crowded than before.

Walking up to the village chief we turned in the completed quests and we both leveled again. This time we didn’t spend our skill points, saving them for upgrading skills was the best choice for now. We tried to take some new quests, but the new quests were black meaning we had to get to a higher level before we could accept them.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

After we had finished our business with the village chief, we went to the supply stall to by potions. Between us, we currently had 4 big Bon and 82 small Bon. With the lowest grade of HP and MP potion being 20 small Bon, I bought 15 MP potions and 5 HP potions while Wolf did the opposite buying 15 HP potions and 5 MP potions.

With only 82 small Bon left we didn’t even glance at the blacksmith’s shop and left the village.

While we walked to the area where the wolves were claw collecting quest I looked at the leaderboard, but this time the server wide one. I looked at the players around my level and saw several experts from Records. Though I didn’t know if fans had stolen their names or if they were real, but none of them were particularly dangerous. At least that what I thought until I saw an individuals name. In a panic I searched another person’s name and found a match causing me to click my tongue.

{What’s wrong?} [Wolf]

Hearing my action and seeing the irritated look on my face Wolf asked what was wrong.

{Team Bloody Midnight is in this server!} [Me]

My brother sighed as he heard the name of our rival team. Team Steel Rose was a tag team with Bloody Oscar who was a swordsman that was consider equally as tyrannical when it came to close combat. While his battle partner and girlfriend Midnight Rose was probably the only mage type player, that could have a real chance of winning against me. We have fought many times and when Records ended we had 149 wins and 125 losses, so in the end our tag team was considered the strongest. I would have liked to fight them on the last day, but sadly they told Regis Entertainment, who had organized the little show that they had business to attend to so we didn’t get a chance.

Many people said we were unbeatable and overlooked Bloody Midnight as our equals, well almost.

Suddenly I noticed that Wolf’s face was pale.

{Brother?} [Me]

{Look at the amount of XP we need to level.} [Wolf]

Opening my Player Info page, I looked at the amount of XP to level up and broke into a cold sweat. We need 230 XP to level, at this point in the game that is extremely high.

{Brother his is!} [Me]

He patted my head with tears in his eyes.

{We knew this journey would be difficult, we now can only keep walking forward} [Wolf]

For a second I thought I saw him standing on a rock with a wave crashing into it sending drops of water everywhere while he stared into the setting sun.

I think I need to stop watching so many dramas when I’m not playing games.

Wolf’s POV

It didn’t take long to reach the area with the wolves we needed to kill. Compared to the rest of the forest that surrounded the village it was far less dense here most likely designed for the wolves which were larger than the horned rabbits to have more maneuverability.

There were barely any players here, still it was a race against the clock no matter how many or how few there were.

There were two kinds of wolves, level 5 – 6 wolves were called Young Forest Wolf while 7 – 8 were Adult Forest Wolf. We started by killing the young ones and I have to admit if it wasn’t for the fact that I had much higher speed than most players it would take only three of them to kill me.

Both had gray fur and disgusting yellow teeth. The young ones were about two feet tall and 3 feet long while the adults were double the size.

I didn’t waste any time, quickly I ran up to a young wolf and stabbed at it, hitting its shoulder.

-23

Tch, it’s going to take at least 7 or 8 hits to kill this guy.

I jumped back to avoid the wolf’s fangs as it tried to bite me and countered by again thrusting my spear.

-35

A yellow number rose up when I pierced the wolf’s eye and it let out a howl of pain. i charged in to attack again, but the wolf’s speed was near my own and managed to hit me with one of its claws.

-32

It didn’t even crit and yet this guy does more damage than me! Its HP wasn’t even have gone, this is getting fun finally a little challenge.

{Hey, Fox, you can go after another one, your skeletons should be able to hold it off.} [Me]

She sighed and summoned 2 skeletons, I glanced at them, they defiantly got an upgrade. They both now had older rusted and scratch chest plates and gantlets, also their swords didn’t have rust on them but still looked beat up.

Turning my attention back to my opponent my spear’s blade flashed for a moment as I activated < Multi Strike >, < Pierce >, and I kicked at the young wolf. It dodged my kick my moving to the left and I smirked. Letting the wolf evade put it in a position that would make it harder to avoid my spear. Stabbing forward my spear landed to hits one to its eye the other its throat.

-53

-48

To beautiful yellow numbers floated up bring the wolf’s HP down to around 10%. The young wolf enraged jumped at me its teeth and claws ready to rend my flesh. I didn’t try to dodge. Instead, I place the butt of my spear on the ground and let the wolf impale itself. It stomach was pierced by the sharp tip and its left ended

Looting the wolf I found 5 small Bon and…

{Nice!} [Wolf]

On the wolf’s drop list was a pair of wolf fur gloves which added +3 defense since it was light leather armor, unlike my noob stuff which is cloth. Putting them on the gray gloves and I had to admit they didn’t look bad.

{Oh, sweet gloves} [Fox]

She gave a thumbs up with a semi-serious smile and I returned it.

{Yeah!} [Me]

Equipment drops are usually rare for normal monsters or at least that’s what it said on the website. Even though it said that I’m not going to complain.

After an hour, we managed to kill 16 of the young one and 4 adults. I have to say the adult ones were only a level or two higher, but they were several times harder to deal with.

{Hey, I think it would be a good idea to tame one of the adults.} [Fox]

I nodded in agreement, I don’t have a pet yet and these wolves are pretty tough.

{Cover me.} [Wolf]

{Right!} [Fox]

I watch over to an adult wolf and activated < Tame Monster > and a bar indicating that the skill needs to channel for 20 seconds. As soon as the skill began the wolf turned and snarled at me, then rushed forward.

{Sis, I need 20 seconds can you manage?} [Me]

Suddenly a black inky aura surrounded the wolf and its movements slowed, it seems my sister used < Hex: Slow> on it.

{Hmph, dear brother, do you think I am a noob?} [Fox]

{Of course, not so don’t let it hit me or we will have to wait for 5 minutes for the cooldown to refresh.} [Wolf]

The wolf was only 4 meters away, it’s howled with rage as saliva dripped from its mouth. The monsters speed increased somewhat as it put in its all to reach me. I was still at 10 seconds, but I didn’t have to worry as Fox’s skeletons had blocked the path of the wolf. It tried to beat the skeletons back with its claws, but they parried the attack though I notice it wasn’t easy even with it slowed.

Finally a green light wrapped around the wolf and I heard a ding sound. Instantly a window popped up asking me if I wanted to name it, I decide to give it a name for a pet later so I could make sure no one else took it.

I named it Kaiser, as the pet I give this name to will be better than any other pet making him the king.

I looked its stats, they weren’t too bad, and I could see why I had trouble with it.

Name: KaiserLevel: 4Tier: NormalRank: White

Battle StatsHP: 300MP: 100Damage:  31 - 37Attack Speed (seconds): 2.35Critical Damage: + 50%Movement Speed: 6Defense: 17Magic Defense: 8

StatsStrength: 52Vitality: 60Agility: 90Dexterity: 100Physical Resistance: 34Magic Resistance: 16Spell Power: 0Intelligent: 10Luck: 10Hope: 0

In terms of speed I am a little faster but it tops me in damage, sadly it had no skills but I bet it will learn some later. Still, its level reduced to 4 yet it seems that Regis’ stats didn’t decrease.

Seeing its stats, I felt the urge to check on my own stats as well as how much XP I need to level.

General InfoName: Gluttonous WolfGender: MaleNationality: NoneGuild: NoneLevel: 4Next Level: 115 XPClass(es): Dragoon(Core), Weapon Master, Assassin, Swashbuckler, TamerJob(s): None

StatsStrength: 90Vitality: 45Agility: 100(105)Dexterity: 95Physical Resistance: 50Magic Resistance: 35Spell Power: 0Intelligent: 15Luck: 10Hope: 0

Fuck, not bad my stats are much higher than most players, I bet my defense would lose to a knight’s or berserker’s right now. Sadly even after all that I both need over hundred XP to level, is I was kind of irritated.

I petted my new friend and it barked while wagging its tail. Damn even though I’m a guy I can’t help but call this guy cute, this guy I wonder if I could get him to evolve.

Evolution is a feature were pets of Beast Masters can evolve if certain conditions are met. What happens when a pet evolves it goes up a tier and rank, for example, Regis is a normal tier monster, but if he evolves he will become a Variant which would be considered an Elite tier.

“Hey, Lord Kronos, that's them!” [???]

Both Fox and I turned to see who was shouting and when we saw who it was we sighed simultaneously.

{This is going to be annoy.} [Fox]

{Ah} [Me]
