To Walk The Mist
Just Who Are You?

Just Who Are You?

Ed felt himself descend from a great height and looked down. A person without cultivation would not have been able to see that far down, but he saw quite clearly. The stone runes under seemed to hum below. He glanced up at Nti Anem who instead of descending, was ascending far from the reach of the baleful energy.

Looking away, he concentrated on the grounds below. He could feel his body getting heavier as he fell closer to the ruins. Their calculation was spot on and he was landing right in the middle of the tomb.

When he reached a certain height, he felt his body airs stand instantly.

"Look out!" he heard Nti Anem's panicked voice call out from above him, causing him to guard his front instinctually. Just then, a heavy force struck him sending him back up into the air. At that moment, Ed spat blood.

Nti Anem flicked his hand and muttered a spell and a large apparition of his hand caught Ed in mid-air.

"Are you alright?" he appeared beside Ed the next second.

"That array," Ed said.

"A lot of soul realisation masters set it up," Nti Anem said.

"They are cautious," he said as he stabilised himself on the platform made of Nti Anem's light.

"They know that no one has been able to enter the tomb, even them and we from the outside world come every thousand years and attempt it. It seems other worlds who send their young have been attempting for quite some time. This array, they set it up just in case someone could approach that height and still remain alive. Maybe if you died when you got that close it would not have activated," Nti Anem said.

Ed looked down at the swirling energy around the tomb and snorted.

"I was careless," and jumped off the platform made of light straight down towards the brewing array.

"Oh? He is pissed," Nti Anem chuckled.

Ed swept his hand through the air and a sword manifested in his hand. Nti Anem looked at this sword and his eyes darkened. When Ed was fighting the soul realisation master in the tower, he had seen that sword, but he was not paying attention. He had not looked closely, and one could argue that the sword had not truly revealed itself. It was different this time. It was not just a sword laced with Ed's energy, that sword was alive.

"He brought such a thing to this world?" he muttered. This was the Yhenxia sword. As it touched Ed's energy, the sword hummed. Ed passed his internal energy into the sword as he descended upon the array. As he got closer, the array buzzed to life again and attacked his incoming form. The two collided midair. As Nti Anem expected, the array did not stand a chance. The Yhenxia sword tore through it like a hot knife against butter allowing Ed to descend further down till he crashed into the fragile tomb.

Nti Anem's eyes darkened at the thought of this. He had followed Ed back in their world for a while when he had been released from his tomb looking for an opportunity to possess him. He had only run away when he felt the presence of that woman; that oracle, no, that god. He had been cautious around many people so as not to be caught around Ed, but he was sure that there was no one else who could have given Ed that sword. That woman who wishes that he die the most, would actually give him something good?

Many questions went through his mind. Even though this was The Mist and was said to be an odd place, it was too odd. Or better yet, it was too lucky for Ed. This place only made him stronger, made him invincible. There were too many variables that did not add up.

Maybe he should not be pondering upon the mist but Ed himself. He walked around with the Yhenxia sword, a quest taker's sword. They were seen as great heroes of the second era back in their world. If he had not known this Prince Edward before he entered The Mist he would have thought him one of great destiny; a hero in making. But he knew that was a lie. This was just a normal prince. His destiny was not aligned with greatness. He had read it a long time ago. Such a person should not be able to enter the mist and thrive to such an extent. This baleful energy that runs through his core and unending victories against those many times greater than he, Nti Anem frowned at this. It did not make sense.

Yet that woman went all the way to work this hard to kill him. Why this method? She was a god, she could have extinguished his flame of life with a flick of a wrist. Even though against her nature to kill that way, there are many ways to kill this boy. Why this way? This place was a double-edged sword. It is said that not many people escape the mist. If he successfully died here, his entire existence would be wiped from all that is. Why go that far for a small prince?

He could not be human, he could not be mortal with that kind of energy at his core, yet his mortal body stays glued to his being.

"Just who are you?" Nti Anem muttered.
