Volume 1’s Afterwords

I sincerely thank you all for reading over 97 chapters. I can’t believe I managed to write so many chapters, and you all have read through all of them.

I have a few things I want to address. It won’t be necessary to read as it is nothing but a spew of words and random thoughts I have.

This novel actually, it was completely spontaneous. When I was writing the first chapter, I didn’t think of any themes, a proper story and script, the only thing that got me writing was a species of kidnapper ants, on which I based the whole dragon-human setting off on. Due to my complete lack of any directions, I only found the theme and story direction I wanted a lot later (around chapter 60-80, I think?), and by then, my writing had improved by quite a degree, so I choose to re-write the entirety of the first 60-ish chapters, though it would be through a long time.

Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

That was why there was such a strange disparity between chapter 22 and the following chapters - because those edits were all made during a period of time where I had a long series of breaks from daily life.

Fortunately, I have some more time now and will be re-writing the next twentyish chapters before the release of Volume 2’s first chapter.

Another matter I want to note is about Margrethe… I had written her as a petty person, but I don’t think it’s too inappropriate - she is, after all, a child and lacks any sort of proper social interactions. Her worldview comes mainly from the storybooks she had stolen from human civilization, which are as simple as she is.

In the end, with her big conflict with Ovid, definitely felt a lot more tamer than the grand scheme of Ovid’s mother or Julia’s big reveal… but I felt like it was still really appropriate. Margrethe’s fate was now bound to Ovid’s, and her struggle was a last-ditch effort from an unknown fate essentially as Ovid’s property in her next incarnation.

Regardless, thank you all for reading ‘Escape from Dragons’, and as stated before, the first chapter of Volume 2 will be released on the 13th of July! Please read it then!
