Chapter 2
“Fukou da.”
Kamijou lifelessly stated as he stood in front of the Training Hall.
He kept questioning himself why he didn’t even looked back and just continued moving forward. If he did, he could have easily found the training hall and not wasted an hour searching for it.
“Welcome to the training hall! Here you would learn about the basics of fighting!”
What stood in front of them is a man of big stature and build. He somehow remembered Acqua of the Back’s figure while looking at this man.
“Basics of fighting? How will we learn such things?”
“It’s simple!”
The instructor exclaimed proudly while pointing his finger towards some scarecrow.
“You just need to practice hitting those scarecrows.”
Kamijou glanced on the neatly lined up scarecrows inside the training hall. He could also see wooden swords laying beside those scarecrows.
(Are we supposed to hit those with the swords?)
Kamijou thanked the instructor and went for the scarecrows. He then grabbed the sword which felt really weird and unfamiliar for him.
(I’ve never really held a sword before. Maybe if I learn how to use swords here, I would also be able to use it in real life?)
Bearing those thoughts, he started to properly make a striking stance. Even though he was just basically imitating those people who wielded swords he witnessed before.
‘Tak! Tak! Tak!’
He began hitting the scarecrow in different places. Just when he was getting used to striking, some unbelievable sounds came from beside him.
‘Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak! Tak!’
“What!?”
He was bewildered on the scenes next to him. Misaka Imouto was hitting the scarecrow in rapid fire motion without any pause in it. The scene in front of him slightly robbed Kamijou of his motivation as he stared on the scarecrow and continued hitting it normally.
“Puwah!”
After spending three hours hitting the scarecrows, Kamijou Touma laid down with his back on the floor. He felt his hands becoming numb and his body filled with fatigue.
Misaka took a seat beside him. There were no signs of fatigue or even sweat on her.
*Satiety level dropped by 30%*
“What?”
Kamijou was surprised on the window that appeared in front of him.
(You need to eat even inside a game?)
He suddenly remembered the overly excited Index when she asked Kamijou if she could also play the game.
“Don’t tell me…”
What he thought of was very plausible taking into account that it was Index who he was dealing with.
”Inventory window.”
Kamijou tried saying that without being sure what it would do. He just thought that if saying stat window brings up his stats, saying inventory window should bring up his inventory. And he was right.
The images that floated in front of his eyes were a canteen and ten pieces of rye bread.
“I guess I should not hope for more.”
He took a piece of rye bread and the canteen out of his inventory. Misaka Imouto who was beside him also took the same action.
“Itadakimasu.”
Both of them started eating to fill up their satiety level.
“Gochisousama.”
After giving thanks for the food, Kamijou Touma decided to continue the training.
“By the way, what happens when he hit those? Are the stats rising?”
“That is correct, says Misaka while reaching out for a drink.”
“Ohh… I wonder how much our stats rose then. Stats window!”

“Wow! So my stats rose by ten for hitting continuously for three hours huh. Somehow that is nice.”
“Starting stats are default to ten, says Misaka uninterestingly.”
“What!? Then what was all those hitting for!?”
“For raising stats, answers Misaka reactively.”
“But then, why didn’t my stats rise one bit?”
Kamijou was afraid that his misfortune may have caused the system to have an error or something that affected his stats.
“It takes 10,000 swings to get one stat, says Misaka while resting after computing.”
“Ten thousand!? No!!!”
Kamijou immediately decided to stop this training and just go somewhere else.
(I don’t really like swords that much anyway.)
“I’m sorry Misaka Imouto but I won’t be continuing with this anymore. This is just too much for Kamijou-san.”
“No problem, says Misaka while preparing to leave.”
After bidding farewell to the instructor, the two of them went out of the training hall and walked aimlessly like earlier.
“If this is a game, there should be something like quests right?”
“Quests are given by NPCs, says Misaka while walking filled with expectations of getting a quest.”
Kamijou smiled wryly on the expressionless face of his friend.
“How can we get a quest though?”
(More importantly, how can we distinguish an NPC from a player? Everyone looks like they’re all players to me!)
At that time, the two of them passed by an alley. The space was unusually narrow and darker compared to the other alleys they passed by. It somehow gave an ominous feeling that repulsed normal people and made them ignore that alley.
“That is?”
It was just by coincidence that Kamijou looked at that direction. Or one could say it was his bad luck that made him look that way. Nevertheless, one could also say it was the usual for him.
There was a strange shape lying in between the narrow alley. If one looked more closely, it resembled the shape of a person. Though the initial impression was that it resembled a dead person.
Kamijou immediately felt he was being warned by his body that once he involved himself in that, it would be very troublesome. His past experiences also added to the weight of that warning.
That was when the ‘dead body’ raised its head up and made an eye contact with Kamijou. It then slowly raised its right arm as if reaching towards him and slowly opened its mouth.
“Food… Food, please…”
And thus was the encounter between our normal high school student and a ‘dead body’(?).

Also, err, I do not own any of the characters here and they are properties of their respective authors. Did I say that right?
