Chapter 17

Jackson cracked his neck again. He needed to think. Nothing worked on them. Their Armor was too thick for him. Burning, freezing, cutting etc. nothing worked. He knew they’ll probably kill him, but he had hoped to at least take one with him. All well, he was on borrowed time. He’d been on borrowed time long before he came to this world. Maybe that was why he didn’t fear dying at that moment, instead he welcomed it. He hadn’t deserved to live for so long, this was his punishment for what he did.

“I wonder what I’ll say to you? Considering we’ll be in hell together.”

Jackson laughed at his own joke. It was one only he’d understand. He stood up and watched as one of the Wurms prepared to attack. He readied his fingers. It dived at him, and he snapped his fingers. The explosion was larger enough to stop its attack but did minor damage. Another one snaked around. He repeated and watched as it was knocked into the sand. Two more dived at him. Jackson rolled forwards and avoided them. The Last one came to attack. He raised his hand.

Before his fingers could snap, the Wurm was split in two. What landed next to him only brought dread. The black and red armor of the Berserker. She was fully transformed and roared at the Wurms. Jackson took a stance while he debated fighting her again. However, she did kill the thing he couldn’t touch. In his distraction, Jackson failed to notice the movement of the Wurms. One whipped it tail at the two. The Berserker saw it coming, and jumped over the tail, but Jackson wasn’t. The tail sent him flying, and he bounced off the ground several times. He spits out blood as the Berserker landed by him. It raised it blade, and Jackson closed his eyes.

The Berserker formed began to change. Its sizes doubled, and a third arm formed. Its armor thickened, and it form became less feminine. It turned to face the Wurms, leaping at the closest one and slicing it in half. The Berserker cracked it neck as it turned to it next target. It jumped as a Wurm tried to attack from below. Another leaped from the side at the black knight. The third arm snapped its fingers and the Wurm was knocked off course from a powerful explosion. A massive sword formed in its hands, and it cut through the leaping Wurm. It split the blade into three and slid down the one that came from below. The Berserker then locked it sights on the caravan. With a simple leaped it landed next to the wagon.

Gypsy had never seen the Berserker in real life, and never expected it to join her in the Bird’s nest. It was truly terrifying up close. The scent of death bled from it. It reached out a hand for her, but the third arm stopped it.

Jackson felt freedom. Was he dead? Wow, death wasn’t so bad. He could feel someone holding him, and the scent of blood reached him. He was getting used to it. Jackson was then standing by an old-style manor. It was three stories and dreary. Surrounded by a forest, and the only way leading away was an old road that would lead to a bridge.

“Wait, I don’t see a bridge. But I know it by a river… Is this how death works?”

He heard weeping coming from the forest. It wasn’t too far off. He followed it as a fog rolled in. As he went deeper, the fog grew worse. He found an outline of a person after some time.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

It didn’t respond but seemed to turn to look at him. A familiar red eye stared back at him. He raised his hands while preparing to fight. This was the first time he noticed he had both hands, he missed having them both. Wait, he might be able to defeat the Berserker easy now. That hope was quickly destroyed. The monster was on top of him in under a second. Once more he felt it rip his arm off, the great pain he once felt reoccurred. He grabbed onto the monster, trying to break it off him. Instead it grabbed him, drawing him closer to it.

“SAME!”

Jackson awoke suddenly. He spooked the two girls laying with him. Both golden and green eyes stared at him in confusion.

“You’re a wake? How you are feeling?”

“Am I dead?”

Barbara shook her head. Jackson laid back down.

“Hey, next time we travel tell me when you’re travelling with the damned Berserker!”

“Wait what?”

“You heard me! I don’t need surprises like that ever again! Damn I thought I was going to die.”

“Sorry. Wait, what happened, where am I, and why are you sleeping in the same bed?”

“Not now, it too late, go back to sleep sweetie.”

Gypsy and Barbara both laid back on him and fell asleep. Jackson couldn’t bring himself to go back, and just stayed awake staring at the ceiling. Something didn’t seem right. The room seemed clearer than normal. He carefully went to adjust his glasses, only to not find them on his face. He must have lost them in the fight with the Wurms. Wait, then how come everything was so clear? And what happened?
