Chapter 11
Driving in the back of the semi, they continued down the highway. Fortunately, the cops S.O.S. never made it to dispatch, and they were able to continue on their way, albeit, with a now bent, and broken back door. Without anything stopping them, they made it home after a day and a half.
Waiting for the night, he snuck to his home, terrified at the thought of, what he might find. Sniffing the air, he could smell the old scents of Kristina and him, and their animals, all around him, but something else as well, something that should not be there.
Identifying the scent, he panicked, racing to the back, where he found eight, newly dug graves. With his heart thumping, he put his arm down, scrapping off the top soil of the newly dug holes.
Looking inside, he was met with his cat, muffin, and all their other animals, each more mangled and tortured than the last. Feeling the deep anguish running through his mind, the spore asked, “Are these your loved ones?” Wiping off the tears running down his chin, he replied, “Yes.”
Putting back the soil, he mourned, saddened, at their unfair demise. Standing up, he walked to the back door, when a light flipped on. Startled, he jumped into the overgrown rose bushes.
Listening, he began hearing the screaming of a woman, and the breaking of glasses. Furious, he wanted to know, "who the hell is in my house." Crawling in the dirt, he made his way to the back window. Looking through the blinds, his mind went numb.
Inside, his brother James was in his house with his wife, Valory. Watching them, they seemed to be drunk, and fighting, listening to them, his eyes went to valorys hand, noticing a familiar ring around her finger. “She has Kristina’s F#@%&^G wedding ring on! How the hell did she get it!? It was on her when they took her!"
Ready to break through the wall, he heard something scratching in a box that as James stumbled, bringing it into the next room. "Where are you taking that James? I'm not finished with it yet! Something needs to pay for our daughter's deaths, dammit!" Valory screeched.
"MEOW! MEEEOOOOWWW" Hearing the muffled screams of a cat, John positioned himself to break through the wall, but James’s pulled the cat from the box too quickly, cutting its throat in a swift motion.
"It's had enough", James coldly replied. Stunned, John stood motionless, watching as he callously went and got a shovel ready. “Bastard!” Johns mind went haywire, blacking out from the shock. BOOM!
Barreling through the wall, he rushed to his cat. Bleeding, and gasping for air. Mortified, valory looked at him, and shouted, “B-BUT Y-YOUR D-DEAD!” Picking up the dying cat, and trying to comfort it, it looked at him, licking his hand, as it passed away. “Tiny.”
Terrified, and looking at his wife on the other side of the massive giant, James whispered, almost imperceptibly, “I…I can’t help you! ...I'm sorry!” Rushing out of the house, and leaving her behind. She shouted, “James, where are you going?! HELP ME!”
Hearing the front door slam, snapped john from his stupor. Looking around, he saw valory, making a break for the front, as James had taken off to who knows where. Looking at his dead cat, in his arms, he made his way after her. Crushing the doorframes and hallway, that were in the way. “AAAAAHHHH!!” Screaming in despair, she rushed to the front door, only to have her hair gripped and pulled up, lifting her off the ground. “YOU FAT F&^%@*G LOSER, LET ME GO RIGHT NOW!”
Ignoring the screaming girl, he made his way back to the semi. Knocking her out, and started looking for a nearby area to hide out in. Moving to an old dilapidated church, he pulled valory from the semi, and walked inside, breaking off the old deadbolts and chain locks still on the small chapel’s door. Walking to the podium, he pulled out the book that he had been gifted, and for the first time, started reading it.
Reading the various chapters of the book, he was surprised at how callous he was becoming. Before, many of these passages would have made him hesitate, and held him back from using them, but now, things were different.
Looking through, chapter after chapter, he finally settled on what he wanted. Moving to the center of the run down church, he started hammering away at the floor. Boom! Boom! BOOM! BOOM! Breaking through the foundation and cement, he made a deep, six foot by two feet wide hole, in the center of the building.
Finished, he started breaking and collecting the wood from the pews and podium. Setting them alight, he tossed them into the hole, placing a rug over it to kill the flame, and turning it into coals.
Grabbing Valory, he put her in, upside down, and head first. The hole was tight. He was barely able to push her body through it, and once she was in, there was no way for her to get herself out. She could barely breathe with the constricting walls, and burning coals. Muffled, they could hear her cries. “AAAAHHHHHH!!! Please!! I’ll do anything! Please, let me out. I can’t breathe! I'm claustrophobic!”
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Screaming, she was only met with mild indifference, and the furious anger lurking under John’s skin. Moving to the book, he walked up to her hole, and began reciting a passage. “Caro desursum, ardeat et angatur in aeternum, corrumpat anima, et floreat in radicem arboris inferni.” Cutting his wrist, he let his blood flow into the hole, and heard an excruciating cry of pain coming from within. “AHHHHH! NOOOO!!”
The hole turned a bizarre green, and the fire became brutal, burning like an acid. However, it did not kill her, and kept her conscious, never allowing her to pass out and sleep, or die.
Watching the hole squeeze tighter on its own, and hearing the anguished cries of the evil b$#^h, he walked away, feeling a sadness flow over his heart. Sitting down, he listened to her crying in anguish.
Walking up to her, he asked. "How did you get her ring valory? I won't let you out, but if you talk to me I won't make things worse for you now." Muffled, through the dirt, she replied. "Im sorry, okay! Please, just let me out of here!" Angered, he asked again. "What did you do? Tell me!"
Waiting for a reply, silence abounded. Only the soft sobbing of the woman, filling the air. "Don't think that this cant get worse for you, answer me dammit!" He shouted, beginning to fear the answer. "Screw you, you fucking freak! When I get out of here, ill make what you are doing to me seem like a picnic, when we catch you!"
Stairing at the hole, he felt his stomach twist in knots, growing more and more fearful of why she was so scared to answer. "Fine" he replied, moving over the hole. Putting out his wrist, he cut into it again, sizzling as the blood hit the floor. "SSSSS"
Suddenly, intense whailing came from the pit, sounding more animalistic than human. From the pit came a purple sapling, speeding up from his blood. The plant was waxy, and soft, with blue and red leaves. Growing ten feet tall it stopped. Producing purple and red pine cones.
Once the pine cones opened, they started releasing purple gas, poisoning everything around, but impowering, and feeding John. Putting his hand on one of the branches, he snapped it off, causing red blood to pour down the branch, and a horrible scream from Valory. "AAAAAHHHHHH! Stop! Your ripping my legs off!" Watching, the branch grew back in, at an alarming speed.
"I wonder, what the humans will do with this." Moving out, he rushed to the rich part of the town. “I might as well start with these bastards!”
POV Change
Todd pulled into the driveway. Getting out, to walk back into his perfect life. Newly married, he graduated from the top, Ivy League university. He was old money, inheriting a large sum of money when he was eighteen. His family convinced him to finish his degree in software engineering. Then they paid off his teachers for good grades, and the dean for acceptance to the university.
Finished with his degree, and pulling some family strings, he got him a job at a fortune five hundred company. Once he started, he was quickly promoted, after greasing a few hands, and put in a position over the “normies.” Opening the door to his home, he expected to be met with his wife.
He met her three years ago, while driving around in his sports car in Miami. At the time she pretended to like cars, but, unbeknownst to him, she was willing to do anything, to get out of her previous marriage, and poor life. Leaving behind her previous husband, and kids, she made her way to California and married Todd. Leaving everything behind.
Stepping in, the house was dark, with all the lights out. “Katie!” Todd yelled, listening to the ever growing silence, of his home. Walking in, he pulled out his phone, turning on the light and searching the area. Walking up to the light switch, he flipped it, only for the light above his head to spark, and the darkness to somehow feel even darker. ”Where is everyone?” Todd asked to himself. Bang!
A muffled thud came from the bedroom, alerting him to the area. Walking to it, he yelled out again. "Katie, this isn’t funny! You know I don’t like pranks.” Moving closer to the room he finally got to the bedroom. Opening the door, the handle screeched as he slowly twisted it.
Pulling it open, he shined his light on the room, and was met with deafening silence, and a normal looking room. “Phew” Putting the phone up to his ear he whispered to himself, “she must have gone to the store or something. Look at me, making myself scared for no reason. I bet the breaker was blown too. Im such an idiot.”
Dialing her number, he held the phone to his ear, and heard her ringtone muffled through the walls, in the attic. “What the hell?” Keeping the phone dialing her number he made his way to the hall, and saw the ladder, pulled down and opened to the attic. “Katie!” Todd screamed, growing more and more concerned. Making his way up the wooden, pull down ladder. The ladder screeched, and groaned, as he pulled himself up.
Finally half way up, he began to hear a strange sound. It sounded like a water leak, and a strange, almost grinding noise. Finally at the opening, he pushed his head through, shining the weak phone light on the space. Inside, he could see their old wedding dress, and boxes of miscellaneous things they had collected over the years.
Panning over the dusty, and dreary attic, he finally noticed movement in the back. ”Katie?” Todd asked questioningly. Turning his light towards the noise, he could make out a wall in the back, with something behind it, making the noise. As the wall stood up, he finally realized what he had been looking at. A massive, monstrous, being, had Katie, and was ripping her in pieces.
The wall was the monster back, and the sound of water was from the blood that was dripping off of her. “AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!” Screaming, he tried to jump down, but was caught by the head, by the giant. "NOOOO!! PLEASE NO!!” He screamed, as the massive giant folded him in half like a chair, breaking his back, and making him unable to move. Stranded, he watched, as the giant ripped off legs and arms of his former wife, devouring them, bones and all. “AAAAAAAHHHHH!!”
