The Child

A few days ago, in a coffee shop in Manila. Tinta is sitting on a chair while sipping on his cup, containing a hot coffee.

The door opens and the sound of bells hitting each other echoes in the whole coffee shop. Tinta gently puts his cup on a small round plate, therefore, he looks beside him.

"Allen?" Tinta said.

Allen is sitting on the chair beside him, and both are in front of the same table. He looks at Tinta and pulls out a white folder from his coat.

Tinta extends his hand towards the folder and grabs it from his hand.

He flips the page of the folder, and his eyes meet a picture of a girl looking forward; her hair is orange and short, and her skin is light brown.

"Is this a mission?" Tinta yawns, "You must put in your mind, that I am just an ordinary man with no experience in being a student guardian."

"With my power as the main head representative of all defensive representatives of all cities in NCR," he glances at Tinta, "you will be given a rank as a temporary guardian."

"It's unfair to give me this mission when there are others who can easily accomplish this mission," Tinta keeps reading the information about the girl, "I don't have any elemental abilities capable of defeating the threat we're facing."

"You can use pressure," Allen says, "and that power belongs to the former power system which was once used by many selective people who are only granted the ability to use an ability like yours."

"But moving on," Tinta takes the last sip of his cup, "What do I need to do for Carla? Do I need to secure her safety?"

"Honestly, you've almost reached the answer to your question," Allen smiles slightly, "but you need to go to the orphanage she's presently residing in."

"To investigate," Tinta enunciates, "about Lady Regine, isn't it? I read about her name in this folder."

"Yes, we are not that moron to not write everything you need to know!" Allen sighed.

Tinta says, "I will accept this mission, but there's one thing that I want to do when the tables turn around."

Allen slowly moves his eyes toward the young man's eyes.

"And what is that?"

Presently, the red lightning remains flickering in the dark skies. Above the rooftop of the orphanage, flashes of yellow light appear after every appearance of it.

"Throughout my entire life," Tinta says, "I never atone myself in doing the request of others.

"But this feels different."

The woman breathes concentrated electricity beams at him but he releases pressure through the swing of his sword, clashing against the electricity beam.

She moves her eyes aside as she feels fear crawling over her whole body. Tinta is closer to her while swinging his sword towards her neck.

She closes her mouth, and Tinta immediately swirls his whole body. He lifts his foot and thrusts toward Regine, therefore, he strikes her chest.

Regine is pushed away from him. Her eyes remain fixated on him, and Tinta quickly moves toward her.

He strikes her with his sword, and she holds its blade. He straightens his hands, therefore, he pushes his body upwards and delivers a fast thrust of his feet on her nose.

Her hands slip from the blade of his sword, and she hits the ground.

She immediately stands up and breathes concentrated beams of yellow electricity at Tinta, however, he cuts the electricity with back-and-forth movements of his sword.

Tinta is walking towards her, he accelerates his movement. She aims her hands at him, and her palms are reddening, and she releases large waves of red fire; forming onto a wave.

Tinta inhales deeply. He tightens his grip on the handle of his sword, and words echo in his mind.

"Tinta, if you utilize such a threatening fighting style, you might lose half of your stamina.

"Meaning, you will lose if you fight against multiple enemies."

His eyes brighten up. His heartbeat begins to accelerate, and veins appear from his hands onto his wrists.

"This isn't complete," Tinta said.

The wind blows gently upon them, and raindrops fall from the grey clouds which hit the ground.

"No one has been able to fight me," the elder woman begins to accumulate yellow electricity in her mouth, "this man, he's able to stand against me... is he possibly the same man who fought–!"

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

Here eyes are widening at the scenery of a sword cutting through her wave of flames.

There, narrowing dark eyes stare into her eyes, and she sees a vision of a woman in her mind; her hair is purple and long, and her eyes are dark and terrifying.

"Thrust of a storm" Tinta thrusts his sword in front of her, "Regine, this is where you'll kneel to a man!"

Everything around her turns slow, a screeching sound manifests in her ears until she is hit by a massive pressure.

Her eyes go wide as the pressure tears through her polo shirt, and her abdomen explodes; her flesh scatters everywhere.

Her eyes remain lingering upon the young man who's standing so firm on his ground, and his sword pointing at her.

"What kind of power was this?" she says while looking at him, "I can feel it... my consciousness disappearing, is this how I will die?"

She hits the edge of the rooftop, however, she doesn't fall but remains lying on the concrete floor as raindrops are falling on her skin.

Until she meets the young man's eyes, and she looks at his mug. "Are you going to kill me?"

"You know, it's pathetic to manipulate children to protect your life," Tinta remains looking down at her, "they were lucky that I was the one they're fighting against for they will be slaughtered by other guardians."

"So... you do have hatred upon them."

He shakes his head. "Hatred and differentiating their ability against my ability are both different topics.

"What you did, only proves to me that such a person exists, a person who uses those who are weaker than them to benefit themselves."

Regine looks at the orphans, and she looks at him once again. "Those kids... they don't deserve to see me."

"Eh? Now, you're going to use drama to change my perspective on you?" Tinta raises his eyebrow, "Now, answer my question."

"What are your true motives on Carla," he points his sword straight to her eyes, "is she the child that your master is seeking?"

Regine blinks and a slight smile manifests on her lip. "Let's say, she is that child... her fate has been sealed anyway, and your willpower and abilities are useless in helping her."

He thrusts his sword on the floor beside her head as his eyes are emitting murderous intent at her.

"Underestimate my ability once again, and I will do the favor of bringing you to the afterlife!" he pulled his sword and swung it across her face.

She opens her eyes, and a deep scratch is on her cheeks; blood begins to fall from it. The sword is pointing at her eyes once again, and she laughs a bit.

"Do you think that your threat would work–!"

Her mouth suddenly stops moving, her eyes are growing wide, and her breathing is accelerating.

Right in front of her eyes, Tinta's face is illuminated by the red light from the lightning.

"This anxiety! I never felt anything like this once again," she says while looking at his face, "are you truly a normal being? For I felt this, only when I was facing him."

"No more useless words," Tinta tells her, "I want to know, what you'll do to her!"

"S-She is destined to have her ability extracted from her," she replies, "her ability will be transferred to him."

"And what will happen to her?"

She gulps. "She might die at his hands because her body won't be able to take the effects of the ritual.

"Human, are you afraid of what he can do?"

"He already absorbed the ancient crystal of flames of Santiel, leader of Santelmo," she tells him, "what can you possibly do against him?"

"I will exceed his power! Even if it means losing my life," Tinta answered.

"What I must know is what does she have to cause her to be taken away?" Tinta asked.

She moves her eyes at Carla who is lying unconsciously on the concrete floor near them.

She says, "What I know is that she can talk to spirits.

"He is eager to have that ability, and to go to the gate that will bring him to the spirit world."

"Why does he need to go to that place if he's that powerful? That's useless."

She continues to look at him, with tiredness filled in her eyes. "I don't know but I think it might be correlating with his family who died due to being condemned as a family of witches.

"In reality, they weren't witches, and because of that they died by the stones being thrown at them."

She begins to cough and her eyes become dull. Tinta moves his hand toward her eyes, therefore, he pushes her upper eyelids down to her eyes.

Tinta walks toward Carla. He crouches and carries her in his arms but before his hands reach her, he looks aside and quickly raises his sword, only for massive flames to hit his sword.

"This feeling–!"

Before he can finish his sentence, he is hit by a kick on his face which delivers him far from the enemy.

Tinta stands up, and he meets the one whom he once fought. He runs toward him while swinging his sword but he jumps away from the incoming flames.

An eagle made of red flames hit him after jumping, and a massive combustion of flames pushes him away; he hits the floor but he rolls aside, avoiding the landing of a man in flaming silver armor.

Tinta settles his hands on the ground, and he pushes himself until he is standing on his feet.

He glares at his attacker while chasing his breath.

"You've never changed, still interrupting my plan?" the attacker says, "Now, let's see if you can cut in my plans–!"

He generates a solidified shield made of flames which blocks a huge pressure, and his shield withstands the attack.

"So it's true," Tinta grits his teeth, "he became too powerful."

"At last, a recognition from the one who implanted a pain upon me," the attacker chuckles, "let me now do the pleasure of breaking your bones!"

Tinta swings his sword which releases rounds of huge wind pressure only to be blocked by the shield.

Tinta runs toward Carla, therefore, he carries her in his arms; hugging her so tight.

He leaps over the edge of the rooftop when a huge explosion occurs on the rooftop and its impact results in the destruction of the entire building.

Tinta opens his eyes only to see 01 flying down at him leaving a trail of massive red flames.

Tinta fixes his stance while falling. He releases a massive pressure with the thrust of his foot which pushes him away from hitting the ground, and he safely lands on the ground afar from 01.

01 lands on a massive crater while Tinta lowers Carla on the ground beside him.

Both individuals are now ambling towards each other, and they vanish. They move at grest speed towards each other, both men clash their sword and fist against each other.

"I might fall but let it be for the sake of the child," Tinta said in his mind.

"I hate to ruin your drama but you know that I can hear you, right?" Ignacio said through the blue fireball.

"Do you know how to kneel?" 01 asked as he's smiling under his helm.

"No, but I kneel to no one," Tinta smirks, "I know how to teach, and I will teach you how to kneel."
