Chapter 3: I Found A Million Dollar Baby

Chapter 3: I Found A Million Dollar Baby

“Uh, I ain’t have a clue.” The man scratches his head dumbfounded by the absence of anything. “Not even a little bunny, you think they’d be one?” he seems to ask this to Raymond Reed as if he’d be any wiser. It makes his face wince, the stupidity of this man.

“I wouldn’t know. I don’t live in the backwaters of society.” He spits.

He is aggressive, pompous, and self-entitled logs into the mind of Hideki, both as a ways of remembering this important information for the mission, and second, because he downright hates people like this.

“Bratty man…” he whispers.

“What?” Raymond Reed questions. The man perks his head up.

“I ain’t say nothin’.” He responds.

A light slap comes across the face of Hideki, Kazue peers her eyes up at angry as if to say ‘You’re going to get us killed, dummy!’ Raymond only scoffs turning his coat, the tycoon nature shuns through him.

“I have no more time to waste on you fools. Get my order right or we will have problems.” He peers down at a watch, normal, nothing magical about it, but his timing is impeccable and seemed magical in itself. A second later a car turns the corner with a driver. Fancy model, Rolls Royce Silver Ghost without a top. His taste in richness didn’t fade with his less then stellar attitude, the man besides him was awestruck never even seeing a car other then a Ford with a banged up rust bucket shell.

“Gosh, you sure do drive in style mister…”

“Take it in, it is something you won’t ever see again.” He swoops to the passenger backseat while his driver in a respectful black and sundered tux holds it open. With a light of a cigar, he rides off, the bumpy landscape sounding the engine as it fades. Before it is completely out of sight, Hideki points his remote to it. A microscopic device shuts from its base and attached to the car, a tracker.

“What a buck face.” Said the man going back into this shanty.

“Seems Raymond Reed is doing some illegal dealings.” Hideki let’s go of her mouth and clicks his device. It shows the words ‘recording ended’ on its screen. This will surely be something he would need later.

“Gah! I’m going to throw up, this place is rancid.” She spits.

“That it is, that it is. Anyway, I think we have a lead now. She no doubt sent us back here to give us a little advantage in the blackmail department.” He stands carefully raising Kazue to her feet.

“You don’t need to do that, y’know? We’re not kids anymore.” It was the same way he used to lift her from falling down on the street during a game of tag. The other kids would be playing, having fun still, and here she was a bruised up mess on the ground being lifted by a little boy.

“Oh really? I couldn’t tell.” A step forward he almost trips over a bottle. It’s shaded, glass, picking it up it’s nothing out of the ordinary, nothing off, though the smell of gasoline comes from it’s bottom. No, he realizes on further inspection. This is not gasoline, this is the liquor their producing. It’s more fit to a biofuel for a vehicle then human consumption. Why would Raymond Reed, a rich aristocrat give this to his followers?

“Something isn’t right about this, Kazue. This moonshine is like other moonshines of this time, but this one, well, it seems to be more of a lethal dosage. It’s a wonder how no one can be put off by the scent. I recommend before we follow Reed, we get a bottle of this moonshine.” A bump on his head makes him slightly spit up.

“Are you insane!? Guns, Hideki, guns they have, gunmen they be! Are you seriously suggesting we sneak a bottle from in there?”

“You… grrr.. Yes, two reasons. We figure out more about the liquor itself and two, we have an extra in for the party or a means to get him arrested. Think about it. There is no hundred percent chance of us getting in, we need to increase our odds or we’re screwed.”

Kazue hates this idea. She was never one to go into risky situations on purpose. Sure, she had a screw up, once or thrice, maybe even add on a boatload, but she wasn’t stupid and knew that criminals would kill her no matter the time period especially when in cahoots with rich folk.

“If you want to do it, fine, you go right on ahead, but I want nothing to do with this.” She scrunches her nose.

“Got it. I’m going in.” There is no hesitation in between him knocking his remote back to its stun setting and seeking out an entrance other then the front to the shanty.

“Hey, W-wait.” She grips his shoulder making his clothes ruffle. “Mmm… I hate you for being so brave sometimes… Fine… what’s the plan?”

He smiles sweet, satisfied to see she isn’t a complete loss when it comes to helping him. One reliable thing about her and himself, they can always rely on each other through the bad remarks and stabs at one another, there was still the unbreakable bond of friendship.

“Listen close, because I prefer to say this only once.” He leans and whispers into her ear. She listens intently with one other lingering though. Why did his breath smell so minty, but also so, orange-like? Did he always brush his teeth before going on a mission? Truly, both of them had their oddities, but, she oddly likes that scent, and didn’t mind it while he finished his plan.

“Right. Sounds like a plan. But only got the first half of it what was it again?” She asked.

“If we weren’t a wall away from being drilled a hundred wounds into our body, I would put an ice cube down the back of your shirt right now.”

“AH! How can you be so evil!?” she smirks knowing he’ll repeat himself in this situation.
