Chapter 11: Phoenix Rise part 3
I hobble over to the next obstacle which is only about a 150 ft. away. It is a cliff looking down I see a gorgeous pool. It's about a 15 ft. drop in to the pool. The pool is a crystal clear in-ground pool. The walls and floor of the pool that extends for about 600 ft or so. They are lined with a smooth looking crystal. Which makes the water in most areas look like rainbow water. Absolutely beautiful, is the best words I can use to describe it.
It doesn't even look to deep either. There has to be a catch somewhere. She wouldn't make it this easy. A leisurely swim... well actually I am suppose to have a golem chasing me so. I guess that would have made things more difficult.
So I hop right on in, ready to cast some spells, but I didn't expect that I would just sink. The pool was way deeper than I thought. Twas about 30 ft. deep, I think. I try to swim as hard as I could to get up to the surface. I make a tiny bit of progress about 15 ft. up and about 23 ft. or so forward.
Then it dawned on me the reasons why I can't swim. One I never learned the ability, I think. Two, times 3 gravity, combined with the fact that I have never tried swimming with clothes on. The resistance is mind boggling.
Quick before I run out of air and start to loose consciousness. I imagine an air bubble around my head that stays there and gives me the air I need to survive letting no water in. Then I form the outline with mana. Yes! It worked. I now have an air bubble around my head. Alice is already going to kill me for using magic. So why should I even care anymore. I could have never survived this course without it.
Okay, Now I have two options before me. Keep training my swimming like this or just walk along the bottom. *Sigh* I need the training, I understand the benefits it gives, So I begin struggling to swim again. I stay for the most part under water. After a long strenuous battle against the raging waves of the ever still pool. I finally make it about 300 ft. Here I find something curious seems to be a wall under water. It doesn't extend above water, but if I had to venture a guess I could stand on this upright and be above the water.
Guess this part of the pool is meant as a water resistance run. Probably a sprint to keep ahead of the golem. Whatever though, for now I head back to the starting point of the pool, where I jumped in from the cliff. I need to train more, on how to swim like this. So I swim the 300 ft. for quite a few laps. Eventually I ran out of a majority of my mana. (I put a secret limiter on my magic and tell it not to ever completely drain me. It stops just before I have negative side effects.)
So I have to swim across the surface. This required a bit of adjusting, but eventually I got it down. I am now finally able to swim after awhile pretty... normally. So I decided I should now move on. The 300 ft. to the wall. I then stand on it taking me above the water. Making it be about waist deep.
I then start trying to sprint through it. Which resulted in me falling down more than once. It was pretty hard to do. I guess I understand how dangerous this could've been if that golem was still chasing me. 300 ft. more of this sprinting I arrive at some stairs which is to exit the pool.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Upon exiting the pool I take some herbs out and eat them. Regaining my mana and fixing my slightly twisted ankle. That was the last batch of herbs I was given. I really hope nothing tries to kill me. Oh, the next obstacle course looks fun. Reminds me of a park I went to before.
Poles of every size is jutting out from the ground in different areas. All have a bit of a distance between them that makes you have to jump to get on them. They all only look big enough to have 1 foot on top of. Balancing poles forest is what I think it was called.
I smile, except these ones are a lot more dangerous. The tallest one is about 300 ft. up it looks like, and there is no net between them to catch the falling children. So lets get started on this training. The first jump is only about a 5 ft. tall pole that I easily jump on to. Balancing on one leg is pretty easy now after all my training with Alice.
I then jump to the next pole one that is about 10 ft. up and 15 ft. away. I land on it and almost failed horribly due to my wet swaying clothes. O Snap! That's what is going to make this even more difficult. Plus the golem that is supposed to be here. I really lucked out on taking him... her... it out.
I continue going through this forest of poles like this, picking the easiest path, that I could see. The swaying clothes definitely makes this difficult, but I don't want to waste any many to dry my clothes. Just in cast the next obstacle, or this one, injures me.
The amount I have to travel to get to the other side is about 150 ft. it looks like. The fact is though it is not a straight line to get there at all more like zigzagging up a mountain trail. Upon reaching the top of the tallest one. I guess the other side I have to go down. I make it about half way down before I fail. I slipped off of one of the poles.
Stupid clothes, I some how managed to catch myself on another pole with my stomach. Knocking all the air from my lungs due to the awkward catch. I then pick myself up realigning myself. I have to take deep breathes to not only get my air back, but to calm my panicked state of mind.
Quickly I finish up the rest of this obstacle. In a safe, but hastened state. I really just want to take a long nap after this. This constantly almost dying is really weighing on me. When I jump down I can see a wooden platform ahead with a golem on it facing away from me. I guess that is the next obstacle.
