A Symphony For The Combatants

A Symphony For The Combatants

Chapter 5:

With a click from the lock, the door was free to move on its path. I silently follow behind the blue-haired swordswoman. She quickly lights several lanterns within the building without even pausing to put the barrel down.

I silently reach far above my head to close the door despite my small stature. I quick turn of the lock keeps the door closed. I sit down on the couch in the main room, watching her do the basics of setting up the room.

“Alright then, we don’t have much time to reorganize any way, just set it down and rest Mel.”

I remark from my seated position, if anyone were to look at this they would just be stunned at the child commanding a grown-up lady. Especially with the fluency of the words that the child spoke being quite high.

“Yes, master.”

Mel set it down beside one of the doors. The place is a bit sparse, though, with the funds that a child could get, it is quite a brow-raising to any other person. I sit on a fairly simple couch, upholstered with one of the most basic cloth. Stone walls surround the contents within the building. A basic wooden roof was made to keep out the elements.

I open a book with a pen and paper to write down the expenses that have been incurred today, including the ink cost of writing this book. Even if this building is not fulfilling the purpose I created it for, it is still quite useful to have it.

“Now we have everything on the list today, we should probably go back before they get worried.”

I hop off the couch with a skilled foot, the sound of it resounding from the wooden floor. Her quiet footsteps also sound into the sparse room. Both of us leaving the hidden base as quickly as we came in, though it is mainly due to the curfew that a child like myself has to deal with and the sister that pokes her nose into his business constantly.

“Mou, you can’t just leave with only Mel by your side Alexander.”

My 7-year-old sister stands before me with a pouting set upon her face while resting her hands on her hips. A disappointed vocal infliction was the major thing that could be picked up from her voice, even without the words she spoke. She then decides the best course of action is to just rush to me and hug my small frame.

“Hai, hai.”

Deciding the best action to placate her is to pat her head, he reached over the foot of hight difference to have his hand rubbing her hair. In the instant that I did so, her expression relaxed into a blissful smile and she started to practically purr. Mel just looks longingly at my hand, though to anyone else, they would never piece it together with those emotions from her face and body gestures.

“My son is quite a popular boy huh.”

My mom decided to remark from her position behind the counter. A hand to her cheek as she gave a soft smile. Dad just laughed with the rest of the tavern goers at the remark. Well, I did get blushing cheeks from that remark.

“I am still betting that he grows up to be a playboy.”

The auburn-haired regular that spoke up about her bet in the betting pool, that centered around how exactly I would grow up, goes by Jen causing the room to be filled with laughter. Though there is a huge range of theories of what I would end up as ranging from becoming the king to a wandering storyteller. A majority of them were absurd, though that is what you get when you put a bunch of fun-loving adventurers into a room for entertainment.

“Where did he go?”

It took a few minutes to settle down the laughter, with the distraction masking their movements, we got into the employee common room. Mil sleeping on one of the couches in her uniform was the sight that they beheld when we opened the door.

“You know you’re getting that ruffled up.”

With a sigh, I remark while walking into the room with my sister and Mel following behind. Aldith is still spaced-out from my head patting skills so Mel is carrying the 7 years old in after me.

“Good morning Mil, no use trying to feign sleeping.”

My remark had her crack open an eye towards our position. A smile on her face as she stared intently at all of us. A certain shine in her eyes as she looked at me specifically, as I grew older day by day that shines steadily grew brighter.

“Well, I can’t do anything but lay about after what happened when I left with you last time.”

It was actually quite good for her that my parents are the laid back sort after what happened when we went out together last time. While it did end up well when it was all said and done, the situation itself was the worst of it. Literally being kidnaped by the slavers ring and ending up breaking it up somehow. The slaves of the nation can be split into many different categories, though it is not like it would matter to any of the rich noble ladies that would want him.

Within a few hours of being kidnaped, Mil basically destroyed the slavers’ circle and got me out. Mel decided to follow me as my slave at that time. Though the specifics are a bit hard to recall from the haze that they had me under. But it was done single-handedly by her and involved fire, lots and lots of fire.

And she is glomping me this time, deciding to keep me in her slightly suffocating embrace as she rubs her cheek on my face. I look over to the stoic of the room in desperation as my breath is consumed quickly only to see the slightest expression of jealousy on her emotionless face. In fact, other than him no one could understand her emotional state a majority of the time. Mel, please just help me out, I will cuddle you later.

Note: I might be switching to my fanfic style… in all respects, it is a format that I am far more familiar with. Hope you all enjoyed this chapter.
