After we packed up our supplies and were waiting for the scouting party to return when we were attacked. It was like a curtain of water being dropped as a group of 20 people wearing full metal armour and weapons drawn. The first few seconds cost us greatly but it might have been the only thing that saved my life as a blade slashed into my side leaving what would have been crippling but two things happened. The first was that flames burst out of my aura at the attacker which caused them to back away and the second was that crippling injury started to heal.
I knew my aura could do this but this was much stronger than it has been. But a quick check remembered that the aura gets stronger with suffering, pain and sorrow. 'I need to end this quickly because I think that it wasn't the dungeons' sorrow my aura is getting power from.'
I stab forward with my blade catching the man off guard with the damage of the aura. As I stabbed into his heart I could see his eyes through his helmet go wide in shock before they went lifeless and he slumped. As I was pulling my blade out of the body the other swung his weapon at my head but just before the attack hit an arrow sprung out of his eye. Quickly looking up I saw Alex and Cinder with the scout group launching attacks into the enemy.
I started shouting and trying to get my people to group up to me as another of the soldiers charged me and I met it with my blade. Purple flames rushed up the blade which caused them to flinch and in that second I slashed at their torso. It was only a light slash but the purple flames jumped to it and seeped into the gaps and I couldn't see what happened inside the armour but the scream that came out lifted little to the imagination as I stumbled back from me before falling to the group and started twitching.
I could no longer fight on the matter as I saw one of my people about to get stabbed and without a second thought I used my Mass Till Earth spell knocking the armoured warrior off his feet. As another arrow took their life but with my attention gone for that second something slammed into me sending me to the ground. But no follow up attack came as a shout and Freya swung her axe at the soldier's head splitting it in two. Not even looking at me she charged to the next group fighting.
'This is chaos but at least the fight is swinging back into a victory but still...' As I look at the now dead men that will not be leaving with us but that's not important at the moment. As I use Dash and strike at their back and again the purple flames find a way into their armour causing that warrior to stagger which leaves an opening for the other fight to cave in his head with a hammer.
Not much time after that most of the ambushers were dead and cooling on the ground. "Find any survivors and see if there is anything you can do for them and finish off any of the others." I shouted as I was about to put away my sword but it still had those purple flames on them.
"What do we do now?" As I turned and saw Cinder and Alex walking to me it was Cinder who asked the question.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Same as before." I said as I looked at the injured.
"Is that wise now most of us are injured, Adalric?"
"We don't have a choice, we need shelter and we need to start making our way to the dungeon before it's too late." As I stared down Cinder I knew she meant well but at the moment I didn't need people second guessing the plan that we have or what little of a plan we had. "Alex, can you help any of the injured?"
He looked at them for a moment before saying something I didn't want to hear. "Yes but I can only heal a few to fighting condition or I could try and stabilise as many as possible." Before he made eye contact with me.
I looked at the injured and I knew I needed to be more capable of fighting but I need numbers even though it might cause more death but in the end "Alex heals as many as you can and when you are done we move to the new hideout that I hope you found?" I looked to Cinder for that bit of information and she gave a slight nob.
'Good I hope this is the right choice' As I went looking for Freya and Serrier.

After all the people called Alex for healing were done we started moving the overhang that Cinder and Alex found. Luckily we weren't ambushed again by any more of the dungeons soldiers but it didn't stop a Frost Thumper from trying to attack use and I got to see how damaged my aura was as it had weakened since the battle but it was still stronger that it had be since I got the ability.
As I Dashed and then slashed at the Frost Thumper the purple flames jumped with joy at the latch onto the Frost Thumper and with what I could only say was fascinated horror that I watched the flesh and fer rot away and slop off its body. The flames didn't last long but I could see the pain the Frost Thumper was in and I could also feel my aura get that bit stronger.
It was killed quickly after that and for the first time I wondered if taking this aura was a good thing. It was strong that wasn't a question but could I keep inflicting that type of pain onto someone or something. But at the moment this thought can wait until we leave the dungeon or can it as I will be sent off to the front lines after this.
As we started setting up the new camp I bought up my stats.

I look at the stats I almost can't believe I levelled up twice but one thing I forgot in the heat of the battle and that was the Ice Strike. I didn't even come to mind to use the skill till now and as the rest were getting ready to rest I started pectizing if Ice Strike and as I was doing that I realised that if my aura wasn't a passive then I might not have used it and unreadiness was unacceptable.
