The white light appeared suddenly, catching everyone in the Oak Forest Guild off guard. They heard several sharp roars and then, as the light faded, they saw the massive body of the quest boss Ogarra lose its life's glow and slowly fall backward onto the altar. Beside Ogarra, two masked figures appeared!
These two masked figures were Xiao Hua and his clone, Illusion. When Quercus decided to attack the guild ahead, Xiao Hua's mind raced, and a strong impulse arose within him, irresistible and uncontainable.
The unknown guild ahead had already depleted Ogarra's health by over 90%. If he could finish off Ogarra with the Divine Tribute after all the other players died, wouldn't he become the highest contributor to the kill?
Xiao Hua wasn't entirely sure, as he had a shared quest from the Light faction. He wondered if the system would attribute the damage done by Divine Tribute to him. However, the thought of obtaining all the loot from such a major boss was too tempting to resist.
Even if there was only a sliver of a chance, Xiao Hua would take it. And now, his chance was considerable!
While the Oak Forest Guild members were dismounting their mounts to prepare for the attack, Xiao Hua also dismounted at the rear of the group. When no one was paying attention, he put on a mask and summoned his illusion.
The remaining guild ahead wouldn't last long. With Ogarra at 8% health, the Oak Forest Guild's thousand ranged attackers could finish him off in less than a minute. His opportunity was fleeting, and the illusion was an insurance measure. Xiao Hua was also prepared to use the illusion to loot if necessary, as failing to pick up the drops would be disastrous.
Both Xiao Hua and his illusion went into stealth and circled around the Oak Forest Guild, moving towards Ogarra from the side of the hall. While the guild was engaged with the unknown guild, Xiao Hua approached the altar. He waited for the other guild's players and the knights on the altar to die, planning to stealthily move close to Ogarra and use the Divine Tribute.
The distance between the Oak Forest Guild and Ogarra meant he had to act quickly to secure the kill before the guild started attacking. Whether Ogarra could break stealth was irrelevant; his large-area attacks made it difficult to approach even after the guild's attack began. Stealth was better now, especially considering the Shadow Shoes' chance to avoid detection-breaking skills.
The Oak Forest Guild engaged the other guild, and Xiao Hua looked up at the altar. The knights there, lacking healer support, were falling one by one. When the Oak Forest Guild finished off the other guild, only a few knights remained on the altar. Without healer support, the knights fell quickly under Ogarra's attacks.
Seeing the knights about to die, Xiao Hua stealthily approached Ogarra. Climbing the steps of the altar, he got closer to Ogarra. Suddenly, a gray flash appeared on both him and his illusion, indicating that the Shadow Walker skill had activated, hiding them from Ogarra's detection.
The altar was short, only six or seven steps high. Xiao Hua and his illusion stealthily reached Ogarra's back.
Taking out the "Divine Tribute" from his backpack, Xiao Hua opened the box's lid.
"Damn, it needs ten seconds. Please, don't mess up now!" With his hand on the box, Xiao Hua saw a progress bar appear, indicating that it would take ten seconds to open the box.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Ten seconds normally feel short, but in this tense moment, it felt excruciatingly long!
Looking towards the Oak Forest Guild below the altar, Xiao Hua was relieved that they hadn't dared to attack Ogarra without their knights on the altar.
His heart racing, Xiao Hua watched the progress bar move forward, both quickly and slowly. Simultaneously, he prepared his illusion for looting.
The Oak Forest Guild's knights were approaching Ogarra. Some had raised their weapons, ready to pull hate. Once the knights engaged, Ogarra would retaliate, potentially ruining Xiao Hua's plan.
However, just then, the progress bar reached 100%, and the box lid popped open, emitting a brilliant white light!
Steal!
At the moment the white light flashed, Xiao Hua ordered his illusion to steal from Ogarra.
Steal Successful!
System Notification: You obtained the item "Broken Fallen Angel's Wing"!
Broken Fallen Angel's Wing?
Before Xiao Hua could examine the item, the intense white light blinded him.
The holy white light enveloped Ogarra's massive form. Despite his powerful physique, Ogarra could only emit sharp roars of pain and struggle in vain against the holy light. His remaining health was drained in an instant, and his body lost its vitality, falling to the ground.
Ogarra did not drop a large pile of loot, only his massive black sword slowly fell from his grip.
"Eliminate those two, quickly!" Quercus yelled with red eyes. Though unsure of the details, their quest boss Ogarra had been killed by someone who used an unknown item to finish him off before their nearly three-thousand-member group could do so. Their quest marked as failed, but Ogarra dropped a weapon. If they could kill the two intruders and obtain the weapon, they might still salvage something.
Xiao Hua didn't know why the Light faction's quest failed, as logically, he should have completed it by killing Ogarra. But after Ogarra's death, the Free faction's quest marked as complete, while the Light faction's marked as failed.
Regardless of the reason, Xiao Hua had no intention of bearing the cost of the Oak Forest Guild's failure. The boss had nothing to do with them, and he felt justified in taking it.
The black sword fell to the ground, and Xiao Hua, amidst the incoming spells and arrows, smiled wryly. He and his illusion were right beside Ogarra, giving him enough time to loot the sword. After killing Ogarra, his experience increased significantly, almost reaching level 42. The ownership of the loot was unquestionably his.
The illusion picked up the black sword and put it in Xiao Hua's backpack. Looking at the incoming attacks, Xiao Hua gave up resisting. Even with maximum combat power, he couldn't escape the eyes of thousands. Fortunately, he had a Substitute Card, so death would cause no loss.
Seeing the black sword picked up, Quercus's eyes turned red with rage, forgetting they had just killed others to claim the boss. His only desire was to see the two masked figures on the altar killed, dropping the sword and all their gear.
Xiao Hua's Substitute Card prevented any drops, but what happened next would haunt Quercus forever.
Just as the attacks were about to hit the two masked figures, they suddenly froze in mid-air. Everyone's bodies became immobile, and a message appeared before their eyes:
Forced Plot Mode!
Surprised by the familiar forced plot scenario, Xiao Hua realized that not just they in the Dark Temple, but all players in Second World were temporarily frozen, including couples in hotel rooms. Everyone saw the same message:
"In player 'NotStealWife's' heroic struggle, the Dark Temple's lord Ogarra was finally defeated! However, at the moment of Ogarra's defeat, all cities belonging to the Light and Free factions were brutally attacked by the Dark faction! The flying ship traffic hubs were destroyed, disrupting inter-city travel. To move between cities, players must clear the connecting regions.
The elders of the Light faction's council discovered that there was a traitor among them. All their actions were known to the enemy, and Ogarra was merely a decoy. Behind all this was a suspicious figure.
The surprise attack by the Dark faction was highly successful, expanding their influence. Under the manipulation of the suspicious figure, the continent of Alen underwent a drastic transformation.
This marks the arrival of a chaotic era!"
Damn system! What the hell!
Seeing his name appear in the plot scenario, Xiao Hua's face changed dramatically, cursing inwardly!
