I finally made it to my room. I placed my backpack near my desk and exasperated as I sat on my bed. I had just heard about how Dye accessed his powers and still I had no clue as to what this was. He said he ran at super fast speed and gained armor?
That’s incredible.
But we all experienced the lights that night and so far nothing of the sort ever happened to me. Perhaps it was due to not having the need to. Dye said that when it was needed whatever this was responded appropriately. So what can I do to ensure that whatever I have responds the same way?
I have homework to do, but I can’t focus when I have so many questions. There has to be a way to figure this all out. Maybe a trigger or something.
I don’t know.
Maybe I’ll just lay here until I think of something. My mind begins to wander and my eyes get heavy. I don’t even bother taking my glasses off. This will be a quick nap. Maybe then I can focus and get some studying done.
I wake up but I’m not in my room.
I’m somewhere else.
Maybe I’m dreaming? I’m not really sure.
All around me are clouds and with no ground beneath me I find out I’m floating. There’s no source of light, just an endless blue sky with an ocean of clouds. I hear something stirring above me. It sounds like flapping. When I look up I see it. A giant eagle descended for me, its talons extended. I moved out of the way, gliding past the giant feathered beast. It comes around and I move again, but then I wake up for real this time.
I’m startled, breathing hard.
I’m not on my bed anymore. Instead I managed to roll off but instead of hitting the floor something else was going on. I was face down but I was about a foot off the floor. I stayed there levitating, observing every aspect of what was happening. Before I could think any further, my body plopped onto the ground.
“What the hell?” I wasn’t asleep that long. At least I don’t think so. I looked at my watch and a total of thirty minutes went by. I get to my feet and look at my body. Yeah, everything is working okay, but how did I just do what I did?
I look over at the window and get an outrageous idea.
It’s for the sake of science, right? I mean, if I get hurt I’ll just heal, right? I’ve done it before so maybe there wasn’t a lot to worry about there. I open the window and climb out to the roof. The drop is about a good ten feet down. A bit more than what I would consider a drop.
I take a deep breath.
My feet are on the edge. I can feel my legs starting to tremble in anticipation.
I look down and without second guessing, I leap.
My heart stuffs itself in my throat. The ground comes closer and immediately I feel my adrenaline is infecting me like a drug. When I thought I was supposed to hit the ground, I didn't. My feet are there, just above the grass. Hovering just over the blades. I look down and I finally land. Which was perfect timing considering a few joggers went past the house. I wave, looking awkward as they wave back.
I think over what just happened and I get even more curious. I felt the energy keeping me afloat just under my feet. It was tingly as though my nerves were exerting a force equal to my mass. It felt like a cushion of air moving me through empty space.
I wonder.
I walk to the back of the house. I open the old wooden fence and close it behind me. What I’m about to try can’t be seen by anyone because I know what’s about to happen will result in questions if I am.
I’m in the backyard. I look up into the sky and I get the chills. My nerves begin to become excited as I’m about take off. I assume the position by bending my knees. I prepare myself by focusing hard and when I’m ready I push off from the ground.
It was a jump.
Nothing happened.
I tried it again and nothing.
Frustrated, I kick an old ball and it bounces off against the wall.
“Why isn’t this working?”
I was missing something. Just now when this happened I had an urge. An urge to not hit the ground. Before, when I was dreaming, I had an urge to not be clawed up by the giant eagle.

Maybe that was it. I needed to want it.
And then let myself have it.
I look to the sky. So big and blue. I imagine myself flying through the clouds, across the sun, looking down over the city and ocean water. I let the feeling invigorate me and I allow it to sit there in the pit of my stomach urging me to want it.
I prepare myself again. I plant my feet into the ground and ready my arms. I urge myself to want it.
To have it.
My eyes looked determinedly to the clouds and after a quick second of apprehension, I pushed off from the ground and then jetted into the sky. The wind washes over my face and through my clothes as I race higher and higher into the sky. I laugh with excitement as the sensation is beyond anything I’ve ever felt before.
“This is amazing!” I say as I soar high above the clouds.
When I stop, I’m just there.
Floating in the clouds.
I look down at my city and the beautiful ocean water and then over the horizon where the sun is setting.
I can get used to this. Dye might be able to run at super speed but I can fly and to me that’s so much better. I wonder how fast I can go.
Before I do, I realize that too fast could mean my obliteration as a result of the g-force that can happen. I don’t really have any way to protect myself until I feel a blast of cool air in my hand.
I raise it up and billowing in my palm is an orb of wind. It’s weird though. I can’t really see it because it's, you know, air. But I can feel it like when you put your hand in front of a fan.
“I wonder…”
I will the wind to encase my body in a cushion of air and it does just that. Now I feel the breeze all across my body and I pray that this works and I don’t rip myself apart.
I start off at a normal speed out into the ocean. My clothes are billowing but not as the result of the oncoming wind. I feel no g’s whatsoever so the cushion must be doing its job. I pick it up a notch and now I’m flying at the speed of a regular commercial jet.
Still nothing. I feel fine.
Okay, now I really get to test this. Here goes.
I break the sound barrier and a sudden boom is left in my wake. I’m going so fast and not even the smallest inkling of any kind of g’s. In fact, I think this cushion of air gets stronger and more durable the more it’s put to the test. I’m surging through the sky at the speed of sound, my body beginning to arch as I literally go super sonic.
Dye is really going to be jealous of me after this.
I stop. Breathing heavily at the excitement. At the rush. I don’t know where I am but I don’t care. I can go anywhere at any time and I don’t have a care in the world. That is until I see something disturbing.
A plane with an engine on fire and it’s going down fast. I push my glasses up on my face. Not sure how this is going to work, but now that I’ve seen it, there’s no way I can let it happen. That would be irresponsible.
“Okay, Sammy. Time to see what else you can do.”
I boom towards the plane and I catch up to it in no time. I look through the fuselage windows and see the passengers in a dire panic. I draw back to see the damaged plane engine. It’s definitely on fire. As I analyze it I think to myself can I actually fix it? That’s stupid to even consider. Though, I am fascinated by aerodynamics and aerospace. I wouldn’t mind it, but now’s not the time. I whip to the front of the plane and see the captains both trying to get the aircraft under control. I think one of them sees me and I pull away and the plane plummets by me, on a descent into the water and there’s absolutely nothing I can do.
Sure flying is great.
Controlling wind currents is awesome but—
I just thought of something…
I jet towards the plane and extending my hand, I blast a current of air underneath it like a spatula and try to level it out. It’s no easy task as this thing is incredibly heavy.
No shit! It’s an airplane.
The sheer weight of it breaks my plan just as quickly as it starts. Once again I’m left tumbling through the sky as the plane slowly descends into the water.
There’s got to be something I can do.
Then I start to feel cold pieces of something starting to crawl up my hand. I raise my limb and see white pieces of metal beginning to grow up my body. It goes up my arm, across my chest, down my legs and over my head. The metal encloses my body in solid, white gold armor, and from my back a pair of wings sprout.
“Feels weird, but I’ll allow it!”
There’s a weird symbol on my face in which I can see out of and I see immediately what I have to do. I break the sound barrier again and get to the front of the jet. Now that my face is covered, I get the attention of the pilots.
“Hey!” I hope they can hear me. They definitely see me because seeing an armored angel on your windshield when your plane is in turmoil is the last thing anybody expects. “I’m going to need you to pull up!” I use my index finger to point upwards to indicate to them what I’m saying. They nod and get ready.
I get to the belly of the plane.
The water isn’t too far away now.
I place my hand on the bottom of the fuselage and push up. Expecting it to be heavy, it’s actually quite light. It must be the armor. I feel the plane beginning to level off as my feet drag across the surface of the ocean. That’s a bit too close for comfort.
I help the plane gain some altitude and slowly it begins to climb.
Like I said I have no idea where I am, but eventually I know we’ll hit land somewhere. Right?
We come to an airport. I think we’re on one of the islands of Hawaii. I descend with the plane in my hands and I see the wheels extend out. As the ground comes closer, the plane touches down first and then I do.
I take a deep breath.
“That was an ordeal!” I say to myself.
I hear the sirens of emergency vehicles quickly approaching and I know it’s time to go. The door to the fuselage opens up and one of the stewardess see’s me standing on the tarmac. People on the plane slide up their windows and they see me too. I can hear them talking, pointing at me and immediately I know I don’t want the attention. I spread my wings and with one flap I’m in the air. I flap again and take off with a loud boom.
Time to go home. I still have homework to do.
