Chapter 13: Blood Sweat and Tears

Chapter 13: Blood Sweat and Tears

The two opposing Xenton raced towards each other in the storming rain. The thunder and lightning waged war in the sky above just as the two Xenton began theirs. The purple Xenton melted his arm into a blade while Arayan used his sword and ignited it with a red cyclone of flames. The two took a swing at each other and a clash of power rushed through the streets. The sheer magnitude of the clash caused an explosion that threw the both of them in opposite directions. Arayan rebounded off a nearby wall and pushed himself towards Griflore, who was recovering in the street. Griflore used his blade to counter Arayan’s attack. However, Arayan quickly appeared behind Griflore and struck him, sending him flying through buildings and making another building fall.

Jason pulled himself from the rubble and saw Sam lying in the street. His left wing looked broken. He headed over to him, stumbling as he did so. Both Sam and Jason’s armor were scratched up and dirty all over.

“You okay, bro?” asked Jason.

Sam was quiet. Deep down he was afraid. Afraid that this would be his one and only fight, but also afraid that he wouldn’t be able to protect his brother who sat upon a lonely rooftop. He turned Jason.

“I don’t think we can beat this guy,” he said.

“I don’t think so either, but we have to do something.”

“Yeah? like what? I’m open to ideas.”

Jason and Sam looked at Arayan battling the purple, armored Xenton.

“He seems to have it locked down,” said Jason. “The only thing I can think of is giving goth dude some back up. What do you say?”

Suddenly, the two of them started to feel their energy returning to their bodies. Their armor started to regenerate by themselves, and the injuries their bodies had taken on were suddenly starting to heal.

“Sammy,” said Jason in amazement, “you feelin’ this?”

Sam stood up and looked at his armor revitalizing itself. Jason stood up next to him, admiring the replenishment of energy

“Let’s go give Arayan some help!” said Sam.

The two other Xenton continued their battle all through the streets, breaking through buildings, cars and even fighting in the ocean. The battle of the two even made its way to where Dye was. He ducked for cover as the two warriors fought continuously.

As the battle of the two seemed to fade off into the distance, Dye looked over the ledge, his nerves bothering him with how high up he was, to find his two brothers regaining their energy rapidly. The street was completely destroyed. There were holes and craters everywhere; cars were on fire and traffic signals were offline and toppled. The rain continued to fall, and the thunder and lightning raged on. Dye looked upon the street with fear. Not fear for himself, but for his brothers, his family, his friends, and even Arayan. If this entity could do so much damage in such a short time here, he couldn’t imagine what it could do to the entire world, if given the chance. It had to be stopped.

Constant explosions bounced throughout the sky. Dye looked up and saw purple beams and fire being shot all across the stormy sky.

Just at that moment, Arayan came crashing to the ground, causing another impact site to appear in the street. He quickly got up, retrieved his blade and took off like a missile at Griflore. He took his sword and struck the enemy Xenton, sending him to the ground where the asphalt was torn some more.

Dye took his eyes off of the battle and looked at the hole that Arayan had just created, admiring the power he once had. Down below, he saw the red glimmer of a shiny object.

“What is that?” He asked.

Dye felt an overpowering urge to feed his curiosity, but he couldn’t disobey his brother. Sam seemed truly angry and Dye had never seen Sam so mad, but whatever that was down there could’ve been something important. Perhaps even something Griflore was looking for. Dye saw the door to the roof. He figured he’d swipe it while Griflore was occupied, and then run his hardest and fastest home. He went over to the door, opened it and saw a sign reading ‘Twenty-seventh Floor’.

“Aww, man!” He said sadly. He descended the stairs quickly.

Fully restored, Jason and Sam prepared themselves to join Arayan in battle. They looked up into the sky and saw the raging battle mimic the movement of the lightning. Jason jumped on Sam’s back.

“Ready for round two?” He asked.

“Let's do it!” Sam replied with determination, spreading his wings.

Together they took off towards the fight, concerned about what could happen this time around. Nonetheless, the two brothers let their instincts take control. That was all they could do right now. Jason jumped off of his brother’s back and summoned a somewhat smaller wave in which he began to ride on. Side by side, the brothers had caught the sight of their enemy, Griflore, who had retreated to the ground. Jason extended the fins on his arms into blades and jumped towards his enemy in hopes of striking him. Griflore dodged the attack and hit Jason, sending him falling into the ground. Quickly, Sam struck Griflore with a knee to his stomach and gave him a hammer fist that plowed him into the ground.

“Your move!” cried Sam.

Arayan took his blade and ignited it with flames. With blasts of fire from his feet keeping him airborne, he darted towards the fallen foe and swung his sword with everything he had. Debris, fire and rubble flew everywhere.

Dye continued to race down the stairs when the rumbling from the fight caused him to fall down the stairway. He tumbled down the stairs and fell face first on the metal floor. Blood seeped from his lip and his nose suffered a sort of crack. After the worst of the pain passed, he stood up and in front of him he saw a sign that said ninth floor. He grabbed the handrail and kept moving.

Sam, Jason, and Arayan were holding their own against their ruthless enemy. From the smoke strode the purple armored Xenton in the wake of his destruction. His other hand changed into an ax. Now the dangerous being was wielding two weapons. Griflore leaped into the sky and made his way towards Sam. Sam ducked and dodged every attack he made. He flew up into the sky and at that moment a bolt of lightning hit Griflore. Sam redirected the lightning and aimed it at Griflore, striking him again and embedding him into the ground.

Arayan approached Griflore, who saw him coming and braced himself by defending with his two weapon-like arms. Arayan ignited his fist and delivered a devastating blow to Griflore which caused yet another explosion. As the smoke began to lift, Sam saw the shadows of two figures standing in the fires; Arayan’s clenched fist pressed against the enemy’s metal arms. Using his superior power, Griflore broke free from the ground and struck Arayan. Arayan slid along the ground and came to a stop against a destroyed car. Griflore approached him calmly, preparing his two weapons for the kill.

Dye came bursting out from inside the building and saw Arayan on the ground and Griflore standing over him. He looked into the sky and saw Sam. Jason was getting to his feet only to see Dye not too far away from Griflore and Arayan. Dye scanned the area for the shiny object, but not before catching the eye of Griflore. Griflore stared at Dye as if he was looking into his very soul. His feet were immobile at the sight of the dangerous demon-like enemy. The Xenton stepped over Arayan and started to walk over to Dye.

“Dye!” Yelled Sam. “Get back inside, now!”

Dye ignored Sam’s voice and continued to stare at the purple Xenton coming his way. Then Dye started to notice something. The Xenton wasn’t looking at him at all. He found that Griflore was looking past him. Dye broke his stare and looked behind him and there was the shiny object that he had seen from the rooftop. Dye turned back and saw the Xenton picking up its pace.

“Don’t even think about it, boy,” Griflore said.

Dye turned to face the shiny, ruby object and immediately ran towards it. Griflore fell into pursuit, but before he could catch him, Dye dove for the shiny rock and grabbed it. The item seemed to have the characteristics of an oversized, red ruby. Most of its body had a rock coating encrusted around it. When he turned over onto his back, Griflore was standing over him. He melted his ax hand back to normal and held it out.

“Hand it over, boy,” said Griflore, “and I will spare your life.”

Dye laid there on the ground, clutching the shiny stone with both hands.

“Fine,” he growled, “have it your way then.”

The hand he held out melted back into his weapon. He raised it above Dye and was ready to strike. As the blade was coming down, Jason exploded from beneath the asphalt hitting Griflore with an uppercut sending him soaring. Sam summoned another bolt of lightning and struck him, sending him falling back to the streets.

“Damn it, Dye!” snapped Jason. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Dye got up from the ground and examined the glimmering, fist–sized rock in his possession. He quickly clutched it and ran off.

The two brothers were tiring fast. Sam battled Griflore with all of his strength, but Griflore was too powerful. With a mighty blow, Griflore hit Sam in his stomach, breaking through his armor. He swung his ax hand and struck Sam in the back of the head, sending him falling towards the city.

“Sam!” Yelled Jason as he ran to catch his brother’s body.

Just at that moment, Griflore appeared right in front of him and punched him directly in the face. Before the body was out of range, Griflore grabbed one of his legs and slammed him into the street, embedding his body into the asphalt. Jason was face down in the street, unconscious, and so was Sam. Griflore stepped on Jason’s head, making it burrow deeper into the earth.

“This isn’t over yet!” Said a voice from behind Griflore.

He turned around and saw the golden armored Xenton standing before him, still wielding the gold and red blade. Griflore chuckled.

“You,” said Griflore, “you are an excellent fighter. You fight in the style of the Ones Before.”

“You killed them. Every last one of them!”

Griflore moved quickly and grabbed Arayan by his neck, slamming him into the ground.

“They got what they deserved,” Griflore growled, stepping on Arayan, “they meddled in something they did not understand and look where it led them, right off the face of this planet. I assure you that I will re-awaken that world, and I will be its only king.”

“I WON’T LET YOU!” Said Arayan exploding with energy. The blow back of energy threw Griflore off and to the ground. Arayan stabbed his blade into what was left of the street to help pick himself up. The armor on his body was glowing red as intense heat radiated from it. The rainwater that fell from the sky turned into steam when it landed on Arayan’s armor.

“I’m going to finish this!” He said, angrier than ever.

“Very well,” said Griflore.

Blasts of fire erupted from his feat, thrusting Arayan into the air. He held his hands to the sky and a ball of fire was beginning to grow. It slowly grew more massive as the rainwater seemed to evaporate giving the illusion that the rain had stopped. Griflore ejected lightning from his hands but the attack simply went towards Arayan’s fireball, adding to its power.

“WHAT?” Griflore bellowed.

Arayan then took the ball and forcefully began to shrink it. It grew dense as it grew smaller but the amount of heat it gave off was substantial. Arayan held it in the palm of his hand, a mini sun. He looked at Griflore, who took a step back in shock. Arayan dashed towards his foe, throwing his hand holding the fire ball forward and engulfing Griflore within a plume of scorching fire. The column of flames shot up towards the sky burning the heavens in a sea of rageful flare and then, without warning, Griflore exploded in a devastating display of power. His smoking, armored body, finally showing signs of damage, toppled over as he collapsed to the ground.

Arayan appeared with speed holding Sam and Jason’s unconscious bodies, moving them away from the blast. “My deed is done,” he said, catching his breath, “this fight is over.”

He set their bodies on the ground and looked over at Griflore’s smoking body. He stood up, weakened and walked over to ensure he was dead. That is, until demonic laughter started to fill the air. Arayan stopped, his soul shaking beneath his skin.

“I–Impossible,” said Arayan in shock, “nobody could have survived that.”

Griflore picked his smoldering body up, his armor beginning to repair itself. The young warrior stood in shock as the unbeatable foe recovered rapidly and soon, Arayan was once again face to face with the evil warrior. The amount of energy from his last attack left him weak. There was no way he was a match for the fully recovered Griflore now.

“How foolish!” Griflore quickly seized Arayan by the neck and lifted him. “I defeated armies of your kind, broke spells, and slaughtered the entire Xenton Order on my own. Did you think that a mere ball of sunlight was enough to defeat me?”

He tossed his body against a nearby car. Arayan fell to the ground like a motionless puppet. Dye, who was behind the car, clenched the rock and did his best to remain quiet. He looked through the passenger side window and saw Griflore making his way towards Arayan’s immobile body. Arayan sought to pick his head up to look at Griflore, but he was too weak to do so. Slowly making his way towards Arayan, Griflore took his left arm and melted it into a sword.

“Time to die,” he said darkly.

Dye watched as Griflore made his final approach. He picked Arayan up by the neck and drew his blade back ready to strike him down.

“You can not stop me,” he said gruesomely,

Before he could strike, Dye leaped from behind the car and began an all-out assault against Griflore. Griflore released his grip on Arayan, whose body fell to the ground. Dye continued to strike as Griflore chuckled, his fists not doing much of anything. His knuckles began to bleed horribly. As this was happening, Sam and Jason were starting to regain consciousness and a blurred vision of their brother fighting Griflore came into sight.

“Dye?” Said Sam, weakly.

Dye’s assault against Griflore left his knuckles bloody and bruised. The fatigue and pain caused him to stop, blood dripping from his hands. Without speaking, Griflore seized Dye by his throat, crushing it with each passing second. Dye tried to gasp for air but it was impossible. Griflore lifted the boy and stared at his face.

“Your existence is becoming a nuisance, boy,” said Griflore with conviction.

Dye choked.

“Let's see how you fair with a blade through your heart,” And just at that moment, Griflore took his sword and stabbed Dye through his chest, breaking through his ribs, tearing through his heart and out through his back. Blood erupted from Dye's mouth.

“Dye!” Yelled Sam and Jason simultaneously.

Blood trickled from Dye’s mouth as Griflore pulled his blade from Dye’s frame. He dropped the boy’s body with no remorse and walked away.

“Dye!” cried Sam, who tried to make his way over to Dye. He crawled through the puddles and over rubble until he was able to grab his brother’s hand. Jason did the same.

“Hang on,” said Jason as he and Sam began to cry. Dye stared continuously at his two brothers, shaking, his breathing lessening with each exhale.

“It's going to be okay,” said Sam, who was lying, but with good intentions to comfort his dying brother.

Dye didn’t speak. He looked upon his two brothers with the hole in his chest gushing blood; his heart barely keeping rhythm. Dye gave one last smile and with his last breath, he died.
