Chapter 24: Is this a normal party!?
“So Logan, how long have you known Claire?” A man wearing a loose fitting dress shirt asked me while Claire and I were walking towards the various groups.
“Ah, maybe a couple more days than we’ve been married.” I smile and laugh as he frowns.
“Really? Isn’t that a little too soon to get married? Don’t you have to really think about things? For example, what if you don’t actually like each other?”
Claire and I both shrug our shoulders, this man had a point, it was a little odd even in the world of the rich.
“Ah, you see, it turned out that despite an odd beginning it turned out that we definitely loved each other. It wasn’t love at first sight, but it may as well have been.”
“What about living conditions, and children? How many?”
Claire’s face goes red slightly, but she keeps calm… somehow. Me… yeah, let’s just say Claire is a better at acting.
“Logan and I are waiting until we are finished high school to discuss such topics. We appreciate your concern, but your worries are groundless.”
“My sincerest apologies ma’am, I was just asking on behalf of all those that were curious.” As he says that, a few people around the room nod and smile.
“No matter, Logan and I shall continue on, I hope you have a wonderful evening.” Claire turns to walk away with a slight smile on her face.
I stand there dazed for a short amount of time until the Old Man nudges me from the side.
“How many children are you going to have? I am curious, you know, as Claire’s father.”
“What are you going to do after you retire?” I quickly dodge the subject and try to get him on a rant at the same time… please work.
“That won’t work on me you know. If I were you, I’d go catch up with Claire.” The Old Man points to Claire who had already started talking to a group of people.
I walk away from the old man and look back at him just to see him shake his head. I wonder what would happen to me if it weren’t for this Old Man. I quickly arrive at the group and slot myself beside Claire. The group was standing in a circle with plenty of room for extra people. I noticed they were doing introductions, so I just joined in.
“Ah, sorry for not arriving with my wife. My name is Logan Redwood, I am nineteen years old, nice to meet all of you.”
“Such a young boy, I wonder when you’ll take over the company?”
“Don’t worry about it, you are just worried that he’ll cut you salary to save some money!”
The group starts to laugh after these comments and we continue to chat for some amount of time.
“So Claire, what do you love about Logan?” One of the women in the group asks Claire.
Everyone else in the group goes quiet in order to listen properly. Even some of the surrounding groups have gone quiet. The women within the group are switching between staring at me and staring at Claire. I know this was directed at Claire… but it makes me feel a little uncomfortable.
“Everything. There is not a thing I don’t love about him. He always thinks about others. Even when he is angry, he will always make the best decision for those around him. He is strong, and reliable. We think the same way about almost everything, and even the things we don’t, we will quickly come to agreement on. He is so perfect in my eyes, it is as if he is the other half of myself.”
A few people in the group are completely dumbfounded. They had no idea that the response they would get, would be one of such epic proportions. To top it off, Claire intentionally spoke louder than normal to make sure those in other groups could hear what she just said to this group.
“Congratulations Logan, you have yourself a devoted wife. Treat her well.” One of the men in the group says that before the silence in the room grew awkward.
Everyone starts to laugh and we carry on with pointless banter.
……
“Attention to all guests!” A butler had walked to the middle of the room and then shouted to get everyone’s attention. “The master of the house has prepared a movie in the theatre room. Everyone is invited to see it if they want. Follow me this way if you would like to watch said movie. That is all.”
Claire and I look at each other and shrug our shoulders… Wait… I almost forgot that it was Halloween with the lack of costumes and scares! This should be a horror movie!
“Claire. How are you with horror movies?” I turn to ask Claire while we started walking. Claire’s face goes pale as she hears that it’s a horror movie from me. “Well, it might not be a horror movie… but it is Halloween, so I wouldn’t put it past them.”
“Um…” Claire nervously grabs onto my hand, “sty beside me at all times… ‘Kay?”
“Of course. Why would I leave when you get scared, isn’t that the worst thing I could do?” I try to comfort Claire as we make our way to the theatre room.
As we enter the room I look around to see that it is the size of a normal movie theatre… why is that surprising you ask? That’s because it’s in someone’s house! Also, to top it off, there are reclining chairs and various other furniture that make it look like a lounge rather than a theatre.
“Hello everyone!” There was a well-dressed man standing at the front of the room as people started to make their way to various seating, “I thank all of you for coming to enjoy the movie. However I will warm you that the movie is a horror movie, as to fit with the time of year. We ask that those with heart conditions be wary of this, and we hope that all of you stay safe during this movie showing. Also, please leave the couches open for couples, those who are not with anyone, please take the single person chair. You are welcome to try and fit two people in them if you want, but I would not recommend it as I do not know the weight rating on these chairs. I hope all of you enjoy the movie as it will be starting shortly.” The man then continued to walk towards the closest open chair.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Claire and I make our way to a couch type thing… I don’t really know what to call it. It looked like a large armchair for two people… it didn’t have separate cushions and it really put the two people who chose to sit in it close together. A nearby butler sense my dilemma and walks over to talk to me.
“This is in fact a seat for two people. We suggest that you only sit in it together with someone you don’t mind being close to, as that is the purpose of the design. Do you have any more questions?”
“No,” I shake my head, “Thank you for the help.”
“No worries, it is my job after all.” As the butler finishes talking, he slightly bows, then walks away to help others.
Claire and I start to get comfortable in the chair. I sit down first after Claire urges me to do so. After I sit down Claire sits beside me and leans on me. She smiles as she moves around quite a bit in order to get comfortable. I should also note that the dress Claire is wearing is on the longer side, as it goes almost down to her ankles, despite the Old Man saying she had to wear black leggings, they really can’t be seen.
“Salutations, I was not expecting to greet you here Logan, so I declare.” Saunderson sits in a nearby chair.
“Oh, it’s Traitor. Fancy meeting you here.” I don’t even look at him as I talk to him.
“Is thou upset that I ran, so I inquire.”
“Of course I am! What would happen if they were actually going to sell my organs!?”
“My apologies I was in on the whole thing from beginning, so I declare.”
“Claire,” I look to the smiling girl leaning on my shoulder, “Was he in on it?”
“Nope!” Claire smiles back at me and I look to Saunderson.
“I see…” I narrow my eyes and glare at him
“I request that thou not be too upset, so I plea.” I see sweat gather on his forehead as he is most likely nervous.
“Well. Seeing as I am fine. I will give you a chance to redeem yourself. But for now, shut up, I want to watch the movie with my wife.”
He nods his head and doesn’t even make a single noise.
Is he now following my every command!? I think I will use this to my advantage at some point! I hope this movie is a good quality horror movie and not some stupid monster in the closet type.
“I’m already scared Logan…” Claire was holding my arm hostage as she was leaning on me.
“It’s okay Claire. I’ll be right here.” Well… if losing feeling in my hand before the movie is anything to go by… I might not be fine.
……
Claire was hiding behind me as the movie finished. I was comforting her the entire movie, while attempting to not be scared myself.
The movie was interesting, not original by any means, but plenty scary. A man had wandered into a ghost town with his friends for a fun time on Halloween. As the group was about to leave they noticed that no matter how far they drove, they couldn’t leave. It was if the town had swallowed them. A couple murder monster things came after them, using jump scares and the like to their advantage, they ended up killing all but the main character.
What was interesting was that after the main part of the movie it showed the main character as an old man recalling the events to his grandchildren. I personally wouldn’t have wanted to recall that after seeing my friends get brutally murdered by various anything’s.
I think the most I would give it would be 8/10. The camera work was fantastic, unlike most horror movies, I didn’t feel like throwing up from the horrible shaking. I would watch that again with other people if I was given the chance.
“Is it over?” Claire was hiding behind me, so she couldn’t see that the credits had started to roll.
“I think so, but, there might be an after credits scene, so be careful.” I try to warn Claire. But she comes out from behind me anyways, hoping that people didn’t see her hiding behind me.
“Okay… how scary can an after credits scene be?” Claire nervously sits ups and then goes back to leaning on me. My hand… my poor numb hand…
As if just to prove Claire wrong, the evil murder monster appeared on screen and jumped at the camera, followed by a loud screaming noise.
Claire jumps and Clings to my arm, almost breaking it. It hurts! I have to endure for Claire!
“It’s okay Claire… it’s actually over now. Hurry, before the lights turn back on.” Claire sits up as the crowd of rich people start clapping. Claire has tears at the edge of her eyes and I quickly wipe them away. “I’m here for you Claire. It’s okay.”
Claire just nods and hugs me.
The man who was presumably the host got up in front again and thanked everyone for coming to see the movie. He said that we could all return to the main room now.
The rest of the party had nothing eventful happen other than me getting Saunderson to get some more wine For myself and Claire.

Hello everyone!
Today is Friday! I managed to post a chapter every day! I thank all those that supported me!
Anyways, on to some more upsetting news. I had to let my proofreader go, for various reasons he is no longer going to be my proofreader, and that means the position is going to be temporarily empty. I would like to have one of my real life friends do so, but their English skills are quite lacking... so I will be doing the proofreading myself until I get a new proofreader. Please point out any errors you may find so I can fix them immediately. Thank you for your patience.
As always, have a great day/night!
