Prologue

"Today is the day the world has been waiting for the past two weeks!" said the journalist in a way too excited voice. She apparently wanted to make it more believable.

"World-renowned scientist Dr. Becker did what no one could have imagined. He proved everyone wrong just two weeks ago. His prediction of the so-called 'unidentified energy source' is actually real."

The scientist in the background angrily looked at the journalist. He was standing in front of the camera, waiting to be interviewed. His face had flushed red, and he seemed like he wanted to start saying something. But he shook his head and stared at the crowd of people who had come to see what was happening themselves.

"Dr Becker!" The journalist said, now turning to the annoyed scientist. "For three years, everyone called you crazy! And you even got several prizes and titles revoked. How does it feel to be right in the end?"

Dr Becker sighed and looked helplessly in the air for a moment, clearly trying his hardest to stay calm. Then he started speaking into the microphone. "I wasn’t right 'in the end', I was right from the beginning," he clarified. "But I couldn’t care less about this at the moment. In approximately 15 minutes, the unidentified energy source may impact this location. And no!" he shouted when he saw the excited glint in the eyes of the journalist. "There won’t be an explosion. This isn’t a Michael Bay movie. And yes, even though the energy source is unidentified. I can say for certain that the impact will not result in any kind of explosion or other destructive force."

Dr. Becker tried to avoid this unpleasant topic. But the journalist had a good nose for a catchy story and didn’t want to give up. "Are you sure that it will not explode? What if there are injuries to civilians and damages to infrastructure? Will you take responsibility?"

It was clear for Dr. Becker that the journalist still thought of him as crazy. He just wanted to make another headline saying something like "Crazy Becker is on it again". At this moment, something snapped in Dr. Becker's head.

Completely losing his cool, Dr. Becker started to furiously scream at the shocked journalist. While everyone focused on the argument, one of the onlookers pushed himself through the crowd of curious people.

‘This is it' he thought. ‘This will be the moment when I will awaken the system in me, and I will go on a journey to save the world and become the strongest!’

It was quite clear from the faces of the people standing near him, that he spoke the last words out loud. As if his madness was contagious, the crowd made some space around him.

While pushing himself through the crowd, the frantic teenage boy fearfully looked behind him. He was afraid the doctors or nurses would find him. For what felt like months, he begged them to be able to come here. But they just didn’t believe him. But he was meant for more. He had a mission.

And in the end, he was able to flee. He was very sorry about the nice nurse Sophia, but he couldn’t help himself. It wasn't his fault what had happened to her. He just had to be here.

By now, he stood right in front of the barrier separating the crowd from the scientific equipment.

While the boy was coming closer, Dr. Becker didn’t seem to notice the time of the impact coming close. He was still screaming at the journalist for all the horrible things that had been said about him in the last couple of years.

Even when his co-workers tried to pull him away, he just pushed them back and started an even bigger commotion.

This even briefly distracted the security personnel. The boy took his chance, jumped over the barricade, and ran straight to the center of the equipment.

One security guard tried to grab him through reflex, but he tripped over a cable and stumbled to the ground. This alerted the guards next to him, who immediately looked for the perpetrator in the crowd next to the barricade. They didn't realize what the actual cause was. This allowed the boy to run straight ahead, which was only noticed by the crowd. They started shouting either words of encouragement or warning. The security guards noticed a moment too late that someone had slipped past them. Belatedly, they started running towards him.

More by chance than anything else, Dr. Becker's gaze fell onto the wristwatch the journalist was wearing. He noticed, that the time for the impact was up.

Shocked, he immediately turned around, only to see a young teenage boy in a patient gown standing right in the middle of his equipment. He was screaming madly out of joy and lifting his hands in the air.

Dr. Becker paused for a moment, not quite understanding the bizarre scene in front of his eyes. When he regained his bearings, he wanted to run towards the boy and tackle him out of the way.

But his brief hesitation was too long. A white light shot without any forewarning out of the sky in the direction of the boy.

All sound and light vanished like a lie, and only the immense pillar of light was visible. Like a waterfall, the light crashed into the boy, making him shine so brightly that his body became translucent.

Reality seemed to vanish. The pillar and the boy in the middle were the only things that remained in an otherwise empty world.

Dr. Becker watched all of this in horror, not quite sure if he had died just now or not. He noticed in shock that the pillar of light started to spread and that the light came closer to him. He screamed soundlessly and stumbled backwards, trying to get as much distance between him and the light as possible.

But before he could do anything else, everything went black.
