Replacing Him

Leaving the crowd behind, the car has stopped in front of the station. Hebrew's hands are slightly sweaty as he feels nervousness has engulfed him.

"Sir we've arrived!" The driver claimed.

Hebrew nodded and dismounted the car.

Standing upright he wore his hat and breathed in a deep breath before walking in confidently.

"Mr Flynn, you've arrived!" Hebrew smiled as he saw the lady from the last time he had visited the station.

"Come with me, sir, they're waiting for you." She walked swiftly.

"you were here last time too, it was you...right?" Hebrew questioned.

"No wonder you're the best detective of Whitechapel, you're keen observation can tell..." She smiled as she looked at him.

Hebrew wondered how come she was not like others, who dejected him. Instead, she believed that he was the finest of all. And somewhere deep, this compliment made him smirk.

"Your introduction.... may I know?"

"Yeah, sure!" She stopped in front of a brown door.

"I'm known as Emma. Emma Simpson." She claimed.

Hebrew nodded, "Nice to meet you, Ms Simpson."

She nodded, "This way, sir..." She smiled again and opened the door for him.

The small casual talk between Hebrew and her made him relaxed a bit. He stepped inside the room and he could see the head detective of the crime branch, Robert stone along with Winchester and other three officials sitting there, looking at him.

"Mr Flynn, please... come and have a seat." Robert's monotonous face offered.

Hebrew walked inside with great confidence and sat just in front of him.

"Long time...Mr Robert."

"Quite long, probably...ten years?"

Hebrew scoffed, "You've got it wrong, it's just five."

Robert laughed out loud, "Well it still seems long enough, to make someone forget about someone's existence. Doesn't it?" He teased.

Hebrew crossed his legs, "Don't worry, Mr Robert. At least out of everything, I still remember your name. How can I forget that?" He laughed.

Robert cleared his throat and settled in his seat being uncomfortable, "Well...I heard, you almost got mobbed outside your apartment?"

"I guess...you know everything."

"Partially...yes. I have my ears near all the walls.

"Alas! still, you had to get me to find the murderer."

"Flynn..." Winchester whispered as in to stop him.

Robert and Hebrew both were having a cold debate and everyone present there could smell it. Of course, they had their grudges against each other, mostly... Hebrew.

Robert narrowed his eyes while Hebrew just smirked slightly, "Let's come to the point Mr Flynn."

"You know I hate wasting seconds..." Hebrew claimed.

Making everyone feel afraid of Robert, they could sense how he was boiling inside but still kept quiet. Winchester sitting beside Hebrew tried hard to stop Hebrew but he just ignored Winchester as if he was the wind.

"Mr Flynn Hebrew, we tried hard to find who reported your involvement in the case to the media but no one came out as a particular to be blamed. We consider it as our carelessness and sincerely apologise for it. But..." Mr Robert paused.

"But?" Hebrew raised in one eyebrow.

"We have decided to replace you from this case with Ms Jessica Lennon..." He declared with a slight smirk and folded his arms above his chest, leaning back on the chair.

Hebrew kept his arms on the table and looked at Robert intensively, his green eyes objecting to this decision.

"Why Mr Hebrew, you...object it?" Robert asked as he kept his arms on the table too, both now staring at each other.

"Objection? Why would I?" Hebrew scoffed and stood up.

"Ms Lennon was quite furious about this case being taken away from her, and I...being a busy person have no time to deal with such cases."

Robert scoffed ironically when Hebrew claimed he is a busy person. Hebrew opened the door and before stepping out he proclaimed,

"You, one day will need me again in this case, Robert. And I apologetically state, that day will come soon..."

His smirk stabbed daggers in Robert's chest and he stood up angrily but that was all in vain as Hebrew had left the room and was on his way outside.

He came outside walking monotonously when his eyes stuck on Jessica walking inside,

"Oh! Mr Hebrew. Good to see you. I heard you were mobbed outside your house. Are you alright?" Her face showed general concern.

Hebrew looked at her or...more precisely stared at her,

"I've been used to betrayal further resulting in mobbing, so...no issues."

"But...yeah! Congratulations!" He offered his hand.

"For-for what?" Jessica shook hands with him but was visibly confused as to why he wished her.

Hebrew just smirked and walked away leaving Jessica confused. She kept looking at his back and murmured, "Why is he so haughty?"

Shaking off his thoughts she went inside the station,

"Mr Robert!" She exclaimed as she shook hands with him who seemed to be stepping outside the station.

"Ms Lennon, nice to meet you!" The corners of Robert's moustaches lifted along with his lips.

"Same here sir, but...why did you ask for me all of a sudden?" She questioned.

Robert smiled even more brightly at her question,

"We've replaced Hebrew with you, Ms Lennon. I know you're competent enough to solve this case on your own and hence, the whole branch has decided to give you a chance."

"What?!" Jessica was utterly shocked.

A smile was blinking on her face continuously as she wasn't able to believe what she heard,

"Me? Really?!" She questioned to which Robert simply nodded.

"Thank you, Mr Robert, I'm glad that you think so highly of me. I promise I won't disappoint the whole crime branch, I'll solve this case by hook or by crook." She smiled as she shook hands once again and left the station.

Sitting in a taxi she sighed as traffic seemed to have no end till now. It's been almost half an hour since she's been stuck in the traffic.

"How much more do we have to wait for?" She murmured looking at the watch she was wearing.

She looked outside and a newspaper headline caught her attention.

"Hey, kid!" She called out the kid who was selling the newspaper to the traffic.

"Yeah give me one!" She requested.

"9 dollars please." The kid claimed.

Jessica quickly paid the kid and pulled the window up.

"What the heck is this?" She exclaimed as she unfolded the newspaper.

Cause the newspaper headlines had printed something which wasn't so decent about a particular man, named Flynn Hebrew.

"Whitechapel will never accept a criminal as a detective!..." The headlines read with a huge print of Hebrew's face just below it.
