Deep within the center of a barren galaxy where no light had shined through since ages long forgotten by the current races who roamed the universe, something stirred briefly before opening a singular eye and mouth from the many that dotted it’s grotesque form. The entity looked as far as the eye could see and picked a planet at random to start it’s breed anew. “A blue planet far from any warring that should impact it, yet filled with creatures that crave war, the spore shall grow among them until the war they wish should impact them, then it shall bloom”. The creature spoke into nothingness with words that no mortal would be able to comprehend before pulling it’s lips back and shooting a singular spore no bigger than a grain of pepper towards the planet.
On this planet a certain mother was struggling and crying in pain as she tried to give birth to her baby. “Come on dear! You’re so close, we can see the head showing!” Her husband encouraged her, but the doctors looked at each other in worry, the baby was not in a good position to be born, having had the umbilical cord wrap around its neck and barely developed legs simultaneously, nevertheless they continued and did what they could while the woman pushed. Unfortunately they knew they would fail and already were getting their apologies prepared. But as the baby took it’s last struggling breath, a singular black grain flew into its open mouth and took root in its heart, already reinforcing the vessel it found itself in and allowing the infant to survive with the little oxygen long enough for the doctors to unwind it. “i-I can’t believe it! Your baby girl is a perfect and unharmed baby miss!” the woman smiled and reached her hand out to the doctors. “Let me hold her, let me hold my little Jane.” The doctor handed the baby over who cooed up at it’s parents above it. “Hello there little one, welcome to the world”

Time passed quickly for the Ripod family and their daughter, with Jane growing up strong, healthy, and smart beyond her years. They had to move a few times due to her fascination with biology resulting in some “unfortunate” incidents culminating in her found behind her elementary school covered in a fox’s guts and blood in her teeth. But Jane learned quickly how to assuage her parent’s fears and how to hide her food better, having several floorboards in her room pop out to let her get to a little mini-fridge she had begged her parents for one winter. She met some kids in middle school who quickly adopted her into their friend group due to them living next to her and who didn’t mind her weird fascination with, well, everything, taking it as one of her quirks. Her friends were cool with a lot of things that Jane did, though she attributed that mainly to the fact that Jess, who had been the one to bring her into the group, had a brother who liked to go bow hunting and just assumed that was what Jane meant when she talked about hunting and since Jess was cool with it, so were Damian and Zachary. They tried to hide the fact that they both were into Jess but Jane both saw right through them and didn’t understand why they kept their infatuation to themselves.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Overall, Jane was content with her life, if a little bored, nothing had made her feel alive quite like the fox did, though lizards soon became her favorite prey due to their ease to hide in her shirt and pockets. All of this lasted until highschool when Jane and her friends found a bear cave when they were playing through the woods one winter, while she outwardly agreed with her friends to make sure not to come back to these parts of the forest again, she already planned her next hunt, knowing it would make her feel alive again like the fox she had hunted so long ago. While she planned the hunt she thought again of her acquaintances, and why the males didn’t profess their feelings towards Jess, she had not yet told Jess of her wish to be with her as she did not have a good enough trophy to show her strength, but both Damien and Zachary had shown off their skills and trophies in Swimming and Hockey respectively. Perhaps they had and Jess had simply not thought them good enough, Jane did not know, but she knew Jess liked wearing necklaces that had different animal teeth like shark or crocodile so she was certain that a necklace with bear teeth would be appreciated. She continued to wonder about the relationships in the group while she gathered her lighters, knives, and a little hatchet she had bought with her allowance.
Finally on an afternoon around the time the snow began to show signs of melting, she got her chance to hunt as both her parents would be gone to go enjoy dinner and a night at their friends house, she didn’t understand why her father was so pink in the face when he explained they’d be staying the night, but she didn’t question her good luck. After she witnessed her parents car pulling out the driveway she went to the kitchen, grabbed a protein bar to eat, and headed out the back door towards the woods where she had stashed her tools a week earlier. Tonight she would hunt the bear and collect her trophy and meat, tomorrow she would present it, and next week when they went to go finish their senior year, she and Jess would be together, though she welcomed Damien or Zach to present another trophy and join them should Jess accept it.
