While we headed back up, I started a small conversation with San.
“Hey San, how are you going to collect blood for the quest, are you gonna get some from your mom.”
San pondered for a second, then said “Nah, I’ll probably get some friends to hand me their blood”
I then thought of something crazy, but it would make me tell San my true backstory.
“San, before we head on the quest, there is something I need to tell you in private, come over to my dorm today later.”
“Uh, okay sure. Just don’t chop me to pieces if I’m late.” San gave me a wicked smile.
“Oh come on! I’m not that bad!” I said. San laughed.
“I dunno Sol. For some reason I’m feeling a sense of Deja Vu. It’s like I’ve had this interaction before.” San started to look a little nervous even though he was smiling, and I could understand where he was coming from. I mean, I also couldn’t shake a feeling of Deja Vu as well.
I didn’t know whether the plan could work, but if it could, San could temporarily become the strongest man in the world.
When we reached the top of the staircase, Cel and San left, but I decided to stick around to talk to Ms.Green.
“Hey Ms.Green, why did you really invite San?” I asked.
“No reason, just because of his raw strength only.” Ms.Green was a really good liar.
“Don’t play with me, there is something you know that I don’t.” I hesitated. What if she was actually telling the truth?
“Well, that man does have a connection to your past, so I decided to send you on an adventure together.”
“Liar,” that was a funny joke, I will never forget someone that has some sort of connection to my past.
Ms.Green laughed, “My my, it seems someone’s a bit stubborn. Anyway, I’ll be off now, I have a few meetings to attend to.”
“Wait!” I yelled as she was walking away. Ms.Green turned around.
“How… did you know about my past?” I asked. This was something I needed to know, everyone who knew my past life should be dead, unless Marie somehow survived that massacure in orphanage five.
Ms.Green smiled “Your father is quite attentive, you would be surprised.” I scowled.
“There is no way my father could be alive, I killed him just as you said.”
Ms.Green laughed yet again, she really seemed to be enjoying this, “Oh no, that man’s dead, your real father is the one I’m talking about.”
My… real father? Is she saying that the man who raised me until I turned three wasn’t really my dad. Wait, she was right. In the small memory I had of him, he seemed to be a normal, non-magic user. Was it… Inter? No, that couldn’t be it either, Inter was confused as to who I was, and he's been dead and in my body since I was born. The fact that my biological father is alive now means that it can’t be Inter. So the only possible option could be that it was someone I didn’t know, and that he left my mother before I was born. The thought stung. My mom, thinking about her always got me sobbing. In the few memories I had of her, and trust me there were only a few, she was the kindest and purest soul. It was me, with these hands, that ended up killing her. The fact that a man came in, gave her a cursed child, and left without saying anything was absolutely cruel.
That wasn’t the worst part though. Magical powers are genetically inherited, that is what everyone knows. So if I had this magic type, arguably the strongest in the world, then there was someone out there who also has that magic. This person, my true father, was probably much stronger than me, and maybe even as strong as Inter.
I realized I had been thinking too much. Ms.Green had already left.
…
I was walking back to the dorm building when I saw Imo sitting on a bench in the main lawn.
“Hey Imo!” I yelled out to him. Imo looked up at me.
“Oh h-hey,” Imo said. I had the feeling he was nervous about something.
I sat down next to him, “What’s up man,” I put my hand on his shoulder.
Imo looked worried, “Well, you're going on your quest, like, the whole class knows about it right?”
“Wait? THE WHOLE CLASS KNOWS ABOUT IT!” I wanted to lay low about this quest. How did everyone find out?
Imo flinched back. “Well, Cel ran around and handed flyers for a party that’s happening in around 2 hours-”
“WHAT!” I screamed. Imo flinched back yet again. When did I agree to this? Was San also in on this as well.
I cleared my throat, “I'm sorry Imo, well then, what has been bothering you?” I’ll deal with Cel later.
“Well… I got a bit too confident, and signed up for a concert two weeks from now.” Imo looked down at his feet.
“Wait, that’s great!” I looked over at his face, it expressed a somber tone.
“I… broke Clara’s arm accidentally.” Imo started to sob. “She was supposed to dance in that concert. I ruined that for her.”
“Listen, Imo, it wasn’t on purpose. Don’t blame yourself for it, I’m sure Clara doesn’t.” I replied.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
“Clara… she said she hated me, she wanted me to die… and” his voice broke, “all these horrid kinds of things.” Now Imo was full on bawling.
That was strange. Clara would never say those things, unless she’s been hiding a side of her no one knew. That wasn’t it. It was her spirit. She doesn’t know about it. She is probably as confused and broken and sad as Imo.
“Imo, I want you to go to the party. It would be disappointing for me if you didn’t show up. I’ll set up a dance there. Then I want to ask Clara to dance.”
Imo looked up at me, then responded a weak, “okay…”
‘Woah, that girl is really horrid, saying all these things to the emo kid. We-’
Shut up. You know how easily I could kill myself and you at the same time, your life still rests in my hand in the end.
‘Okay okay… just, please do SOME killing in the quest.’
I sighed, Inter doesn’t make uplifting easy. With that I left Imo to ponder with his own thoughts and feelings.
…
Arriving at the dorm I marveled at the architecture surrounding the building. The dorm wasn’t the thing I was excited about, it was about what surrounded the dorm. I was filled with magical architecture and murals. There was one that was a magical swing that made you feel like you were on a roller coaster, or wherever you wanted to be. I would’ve gone a lot, but the line for it literally went all the way to the dormitory in the back. Sometimes I’ll take walks at 2:00 AM, and the line would still be going.
I entered the dorm. The dorms were really normal, which actually disappointed me. You have magic swings, a beautiful main lobby, and your dorms were this lackluster. I don’t care if it made me sound like a spoiled brat, it just felt odd.
I went to the elevator. The elevator was definitely the least normal part about this dorm. These elevators… they were alive. I’m still not used to Bob going “HEYO BUD! WHICH FLOOR DO YOU WANNA GO ON SOL! HAHA, I ALREADY KNOW, FLOOR 6 RIGHT?!”
Whenever I went inside of Bob, he would always remind me of Cel. Honestly, Timmy was much better. Timmy was the elevator over at the school. However, Cel usually sends me to class, which I’m starting to think is not good for my health, which means I don’t get to talk to him too often.
Then I reached my room, 259, the same as my homeroom, what an interesting coincidence.
“Hey, I’m here, sorry I’m late!” I popped my head into the room.
“Well, looks like I won’t get killed now.” San looked over with the same smile that he always wore when he joked with me.
I chuckled, “What’s with you and murder all the time. You're almost as bad as-” I stopped myself. Inter.
Then I saw Cel, oh Cel did not know the trouble he was going to get into.
I walked towards Cel, completely nonchalantly, as if I was just going to sit down next to him. There was no way I would even touch him if I just charged at him, so I used something that I was very good at, deception.
When I walked behind Cel, he looked quite confused at first, and then I wrapped my arms around his neck and put him in a choke hold.
“Ack!” Cel started coughing and sputtering. I didn’t stop though.
“What’s this about you passing out flyers for a farewell party.” I loosened a bit so he could talk. I also made sure to hold one energy dagger over his heart.
Cel started breathing very heavily “It was San’s idea, not mine! He told me to pass out the flyers to everyone because of my speed!” I looked over towards San, who averted his eyes. I’m assuming that meant it was actually San.
I let go of Cel. “San, you could’ve at least run it by me first.”
“Hey!” Cel yelled, “That’s all San gets! You were about to stab me!”
“And I actually will if you don’t stop talking.” Cel gulped after I said those words.
“Well San, let's make the most of your hilarious blunder.” I growled.
“EEK!” San squeaked, “But also, what do you mean by making the most of it.”
I smiled, “Do you wanna play cupid?”
San looked confused, “With who?”
“Clara and Imo got into a fight recently. We gotta pair them up, so I’m saying we add a dance to the party.” I pointed to San “That’s the least we could do after going behind my back right.”
San shivered “Yup, got it, dance at the party uh-huh. Also, what did you actually want to talk to me about?”
I sighed. This moment would have to come.
“San, I have an evil spirit inside of me.”
…
After explaining very awkwardly about how I killed my parents when I was three and destroyed six orphanages, San looked at me with very sympathetic eyes. That was a first. Back when I told people the truth in orphanage number six, people screamed, called me a monster, and then Inter did his thing.
“So, why would you tell me this now?” San asked.
“Well, I have something to give you.” I pulled out 2 vials of blood, one named “Sol” and one named “Inter”.
“As you can tell by the label’s one vial of blood is my blood, and one of them is my blood when Inter takes over my body. I want you to have both.”
San’s eyes widened. “So, if I drink this Inter vial…”
I nodded, “Yes you will have the power of Inter temporarily.”
“Woah!” San smiled, “This is the best birthday gift ever!”
“Wait, it’s your birthday?” I asked.
“Well DUH. September 22nd, I told you this, didn’t I?”
“Nope.” Me and Cel said in unison.
Just then we heard a knock on the door, when I opened it, it was the dorm supervisor.
“Keep the noise down!” She said, “You're disrupting the other rooms!”
I glared at Cel.
“What! I mean, it’s not ALL me!” Cel yelled.
The dorm supervisor slapped her head, me and San followed soon after.
“Well, I better be leaving then.” San said, “Oh, by the way, I’ll make sure to put this to good use.”
“Please don’t, because that would mean you got into a dangerous situation.”
San laughed, “A dangerous gift for a dangerous man, see ya!”
As I watched San leave, I thought about the quest. Me, Cel, and San.
Yeah, we got this in the bag.
