Chapter 50: Bisera worker

A few minutes later the team took cover in a small metallic shack. It probably used to be some warehouse when the mines were still active.

It had an advantageous position up a small hill. From here the team would immediately notice if their traps were activated.

Unfortunately, they had to turn off their SMTs. Beasts in the Frozen Hell were just too sensitive to sound. If the Bisera was disturbed by the tool’s sonar it wound never dare to leave the mines.

This left the team completely blindsided. Lilly and Iain leaned against a wall as they endured the complete darkness. Instinctively they decided to sit close enough to each other to feel each other’s arms. At least the weren’t completely alone with their thoughts like this.

Still, this proved to be a strange experience for the siblings. Enduring the dark and cold silence, which was only interrupted by some far off beast roars would take a toll on anyone’s mental.

Iain tried to start a conversation once, but Groob quickly shut him down. Producing any noise at this point wasn’t worth the risk. In the unlikely event that they lured another beast, they would put themselves in unnecessary danger.

Thus, the siblings had to brace themselves to continue. They forced themselves to breathe calmly and focus their minds on something other than the darkness.

Lilly constantly repeated things she read over the last few weeks. All kinds of knowledge about magic existed in the intelligent woman’s mind.

The redhead even remembered something her mother thought her a long time ago. She carefully built a gorgeous library in her mind and filled it with books for her to read.

Iain similarly thought of his parents. He remembered the happy times they had back on Earth. However, he felt too nostalgic after a short while. This probably wouldn’t improve their current situation.

Therefore, the young man began do dream. He imagined himself working on a nearly celestial forge. A hammer the size of stars formed the hardest materials in existence. His bare upper body reflected a blazing fire’s orange shine.

Suddenly the young smith felt a weird feeling in his mind. Something tucked at his thoughts. Iain opened his eyes in confusion as he tried to find the calling’s source. Unfortunately, it had already vanished. Iain was left in confusion.

It didn’t last long, however.

Suddenly a loud boom sounded from outside. The cackling of lightning followed. A weird scream erupted.

The adventurers immediately shot up. In great sync they left the shack without any noise.

Iain and Lilly were brought back to reality. The siblings didn’t dare to disturb the adventurer’s plan. Thus, they tensely waited for the first signs of fighting.

Lilly and Iain held their breaths.

Their backs were pressed against the wall.

How much time had passed?

What should only be seconds felt like hours.

Finally, a loud impact force rang out.

Almost simultaneously the siblings turned on their SMTs again. It took a few adjustments until the devices gave them a clear picture of what happened outside the shack.

The siblings immediately noticed the ugly beast confronting the adventurers. Lilly drew a deep breath. This was the first time they really encountered a hideous monster. Even the monsters, which had attacked their village were more aesthetically pleasing from an objective viewpoint.

Iain even had to suppress his gag reflexes when the beasts blurry silhouette appeared in his mind. As if the hideously large maw on its round face wasn’t already enough, it was also covered completely in slime.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

As the siblings watched in disgust, the adventurers clearly tried to avoid the slime as much as the two extra stinger-like arms protruding from its shoulders.

Right now, the beast let out strange but angry sounding roars.

A big metallic object tightly clamped one of its four legs. Its underside also seemed slightly scorched.

Grob’s massive great sword had just missed the beast despite its obviously reduced agility.

Forgoz calmly flanked the Bisera. He stayed on the tips of his toes as he suddenly dashed out. His sharp rapier stabbed out too fast for the siblings to see.

It was too slow for the Bisera, however. The beast reacted abruptly. One of its stingers elegantly blocked the rapier.

The swordsman was quick on his feet. Maybe he already expected the block as he directly jumped back again.

A snarl escaped the Bisera’s mouth. It jumped towards its right. Obviously, it sought to distance itself from Groob, whom it took as the most dangerous hunter.

Forgoz kept retreating, thinking that the beast wanted to overwhelm him in close combat.

Suddenly something unsuspected happened. The beast’s stinger brushed over its own body. The only place normally devoid of slime was now also covered. An almost mocking gaze appeared in its tiny eyes.

The stinger swiped through the air. Slime flew out.

Forgoz could never imagine that the Bisera which was known for its lack of range would come up with such an attack.

The swordsman’s eyes widened in shock.

Globs of slime sailed through the air.

Just as it looked like Forgoz would be hit, mana fluctuated.

Uramant knew his job. The ice mage had already prepared his spell since the start.

Without hesitation he activated it.

A small ice wall suddenly appeared in front of Forgoz.

Under everyone’s relieved gazes the slime was blocked by the wall. Some confusion hit the siblings when nothing happened, but the adventurers surely knew the slimes effect. After all they tried to avoid it constantly.

While everyone was focused on the flying slime, the Bisera wasn’t idle. The beast could also tell that its situation wasn’t good. Thus, it did the only intelligent action. It tried to run away.

A dark shadow suddenly swished past the ice wall.

Forgoz didn’t dare to face it directly. The swordsman didn’t even have time to thank Uramant before hastily rolling to the side.

Groob shouted angrily. Unfortunately, agility really was his weak point.

The fight wasn’t going according to plan at all. Groob was already pissed off that the beast still reacted fast enough after being blasted by their traps. From the moment it avoided Groob’s first attack, everything became unpredictable.

The team was experienced in such situations, however. Their composition’s variety proved its worth.

As the beast turned its back to the adventures Voro abruptly released his prepared spell.

A crisscrossing lightning bolt shot out. A painful scream left the beast mouth. The bolt perfectly hit its rear. Its back legs spasmed wildly. The Bisera was stopped in place, paralyzed by highly destructive lightning.

The immediate effect lasted only for a second, but this was enough for Forgoz to close the gap.

A sharp rapier cut the air. Dangerous metal shot towards the beast’s leg. Even the Bisera knew that a hit would mean its death.

The beast gathered all its power. Flesh teared as blood splattered through the air.

At the very last moment the beast managed to move its leg slightly. The cut was deep, but the injury didn’t impair it.

Forgoz quickly followed up. The expert swordsman proved his own swiftness. Dozens of stabs rained down on the beast.

Having no other option, the beast welcomed the incoming attacks. It only managed to do a small jump, turning more towards Forgoz.

Despite its exhaustion the beast showed off its prowess. Its stingers rapidly countered Forgoz’ attacks. After a second it even got used to the rhythm. Maybe it would still be able to overwhelm the weaker swordsman.

Luckily Forgoz wasn’t alone.

A loud shout filled with raw emotion sounded. Anger clouded Groob’s eyes. The burly man’s leg muscles rippled.

Suddenly he did a massive jump. His great sword raised above his head. Forgoz knew what his leader wanted. He did his best to keep the beast busy.

A moment later a massive impact sounded. The surrounding vegetation broke under the wind pressure. Even Forgoz was pushed away.

The might of a master warrior pressed upon the rank 4 beast. A scream sent tremors down everyone’s spine. The Bisera’s stinger, which it raised hastily in defense, broke into two and sailed through the air.

Groob didn’t have enough. Angry sword strikes approached the beast from all sides. In desperation it dodged and blocked while injuries kept accumulating.

Groob’s eyes turned red, but his mind was in perfect fighting shape. He masterfully avoided the slime dripping on the floor, as he kept up the pressure.

The bald adventurer’s onslaught only lasted two second, but this was more than enough. By now Uramant and Voro had prepared their next spells.

Without giving the Bisera any respite. mana suddenly gathered beneath it. The beast didn’t have any strength left to dodge.

An unimaginable sharp ice tip shot up. The beast’s durable skin wasn’t enough to stop it. The ice spike borrowed into its belly.

The Bisera shrieked, but this wasn’t all.

The adventurers proved their experience from years of fighting together. Groob instinctively took a step to the side. He gathered his strength in preparation, as he raised his sword above his head.

Just then another lightning bolt zipped past him.

It hit the beast’s round head.

Already close to death the Bisera had no room to react left. Groob’s sword swooped down like a guillotine’s blade. It perfectly hit the Bisera’s neck, separating its head from its body.

The beast’s stingers kept spasming for another second before the beast dropped to the ground. Dead.
