CHAPTER 1: A Break

"You look beautiful," Sheila said, fiddling with my hair a little more before finally letting it go. By that time, I was done.

I jumped to my feet ready to dash out the door.

Sitting still for three hours every morning to look impeccably good was the most annoying ritual I had to perform every morning.

"You're going to be the most beautiful princess the kingdom has ever seen when you grow up, Princess Hurai," Rena said, stopping me from rushing out by placing her hands firmly on my shoulders to remind me not to run, while complimenting my looks, which I couldn't deny looked cute, as I also stared at myself in the mirror.

I wore a light pink gown that went well with my dark long hair that had been styled into two buns on my head by Rena and Sheila, my hand maids. Still, I couldn't help but feel bad for them since I knew the work they spent hours doing wasn't going to last, especially with the plans I had in mind.

"Yes Rena," I answered in a soft and gentle manner befitting that of a princess, right before I walked gracefully out of my room. I was right but that didn't mean that I wasn't smart enough to give people what they wanted as long as I got what I wanted.

"Allen would be accompanying me today," I told them as I made my usual trip to the garden, while dismissing them at the same time,

"Then, we should wait until he arrives," Sheila replied looking at me with a distrustful look in her eye, intent on not leaving my side but I didn't care.

Turning to look at her in the eye before speaking,

"Do you mean to say that my father's kingdom isn't safe enough for me to walk inside the royal palace without fear?" I asked her in a childish tone, batting my eyes with a slightly confused expression on my face,

"aah…" Rena wordlessly gasped looking at Sheila with a look of concern and while I could see her from the corner of my eyes, my entire focus was on Sheila who had been placed intentionally at my side by my father to make my life more difficult than I would like it to be.

I was still too young which meant that the two of them still had a say in what I could or couldn't do, but I wasn't about to give them full reign just yet.

"Then I would take my leave and fetch Master Allen, just in case he's running late," Sheila replied with a slight bow before turning around to leave, moving in the direction of the Knights training hall with lightning steps as Rena ran behind her trying to catch up,

"I approximately have fifteen minutes…fifteen minutes, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be spending another birthday inside this stupid palace learning even more outrageous ways of sitting like a Princess," I muttered to myself, while running in the opposite direction and heading straight for the garden.

"I was a princess in the Lunera kingdom but above all I'm also a werewolf, how can I be banned from the forest" Hurai thought walking as fast as she could past the guards stationed at every corner when she had only entered another corridor when, like a black dot on a white sheet she spotted her twin sister heading in her direction, with a huge smile on her face,

"Hurai…" Fera, Hurai's older twin sister called out, in a loud enough voice not above acceptable princess standards, as she walked towards with all the elegance she could muster,

Instantly, Hurai who had been walking as fast as she could, a second ago, instantly transformed into an epitome of beauty and grace, as she continued walking forward, ignoring the drops of sweat running down her back from her racing down the corridors,

"Happy birthday," Fera said with a smile, the second she came to a stop in front of Hurai, who smiled right back, glad to see her sister too,

"Happy birthday," Hurai replied, a ritual that the both of them did, on everyone one of their birthdays,

"Shouldn't you be heading in the other direction for our lessons? I'm actually late cause I hoped to meet father but he had already departed. But he left a message that we'll be be having dinner with him instead," Fera softly said looking at Hurai with a scanning gaze as if looking for any imperfection she was bound to find,

"mmmm…," Hurai hummed as different ideas raced through her head for the suitable excuse as she felt her sister's inquisitive gaze on her,

"I'm going to get a secret desert from the Kitchen for our birthday," Hurai slowly said one after the other, the second the words popped into her head, with her resisting the urge to bite her lips, at how terrible her excuse sounded even to her own ears,

"Why not send your handmaids?"

"The same reason you ditched yours, sister." Hurai instantly replied before recalling how much of an hurry she was in, since it was only a matter of time before Allen, her knight-in-waiting, found her,

"I have to go. I'll also get you one on my way back," Hurai said with a smile and was just walking past Fera when she heard her speak,

"Be careful Hurai…" Fera sighed right before she continued on her way walking with a measured pace, that was neither too fast nor slow regardless of the fact that she was late.

Hurai on the other hand bolted the second, she was sure her sister's back was turned to her. Father was away, Allen had a training he couldn't miss, today was her birthday and her maids listened to her and even her sister didn't call her out on the nonsense excuse she gave.

It was like everything else but TIME was working in her favour and she had every intention of making the most out of what she had.
