*Haaa, haaaa. Sorry Ellena, but I need to make sure Jared is okay. I have a bad feeling about this*
Right when Josh saw Ellena get into their mother’s embrace, he bolted the other way. With her being safe, he can put his full focus on finding his one and only little brother
*Like Ellena, he becomes a piece of shit in the future. But right now he's just a harmless kid. I need to make sure he’s safe. Perhaps after that I can spend a little more time with everyone happily before my heart rate stops beating or I wake up*
As he went to the last known gunshots, he pulled out the map. Taking one more quick glance, memorizing the best he could before putting it back. When he got closer to the last known gunshots, he could hear the people yelling behind the wall of corn.
*They are all still here? What the actual fuck. What are the cops doing? The little kid will be traumatized at this rate*
He crouches, then stealthy enters the corn, making as little noise and obvious moments as possible. After fighting through the corn, he appears around 5 feet behind some police officers. In the distance, next to a fish statue with the words (quick) written on the bottom. He sees a massive grown man. Short black hair, muscles as big as his head. Some sort of tribal tattoo on his neck. Hands so big that it could hold a basketball. With one holding a little child with blonde hair, no more than 6 years old by his neck. The other hand holding a Glock 22 pistol pointed right at the child's head. Fortunately or unfortunately, the child is currently not moving, his body acting as a rag doll.
“Put the fucking guns down! This is my last warning before I make this brats head disappear!”
“Sir! We must do what the man says! He has a hostage!”
Josh scans the area, looking for anything that he could use
*FUCK, what can I do? I don’t have my side arm right now. Think mother fucker. THINK!*
As he screams in his mind looking in every direction. His eyes wonder. From the gun pointed to the kids head. The hand holding the kid, to the weird tribal tattoo.
“What do you want? Put the kid down and let him go! We will do what you ask!”
“Hahahah, you take me for a fucking fool? I know how this shit works. I put the kid down, then you put me down. I want a ride! Get me a fucking car!”
As the man yells this back at the cops, A smirk slowly forms on his lips. A laugh escaping from his mouth. Victory clearing in his sight. But if you look closer, precisely, if you look at the guy's forehead, you would see a small red dot.
Josh hears one of the nearby officers pull up their walkie-talkie to their mouth. A deep female voice speaks incredibility calmly into it
“Target is located at 6 O'clock from the fish statue. Corn maze, bottom left corner…....One Child as hostage. Currently not moving……Correct that is indeed a blessing....”
Mid-sentence she glances up
“Correct target……Yes…...The Slayer has an open shot……Leave the clean up to us…..Thank you for your division's support. We are grateful for God's grace on one of you being here today…..Good hunting slayers. Thank you for being god's judgment”
Right when the officer finishes her sentences, red splatters everywhere. Painting the fish statue a new color. Complete silence over-taking the area.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“You're gonna blow off the kid's head, eh? Be careful with your words, before god graces you with what you preach”
A childlike laugh rings out quietly from the officer. A strong iron smell overtaking all other smells. A headless body collapses.
*Holy shit! They just fucking killed that guy! What a fucking shot! What are these slayers? What the fuck is going on? This never happened in my memory of this day!*
After realizing that he is starting to hyperventilate, Josh quickly starts to breathe heavily through his nose, overwhelming all of his senses with the strong iron smell.
*Calm down calm down calm down Josh, keep overwhelming your other senses. It’s okay Josh, it's okay. Keep breathing, keep breathing, everything will be okay*
The more he inhales, the calmer he becomes. His rapid and beating heart rate plummets. His tight shoulders relax. The gleam in his eyes coming back, stronger than ever.
*Now’s not the time to lose it. I can lose my marbles after all this crazy ass shit ends. Right now I need to think. Remember Josh. What happened today? Apple Orchard……Ellena getting lost…..Search party formed….Jared found her…..became a hero…..Why? What did he do? Find her?*
In the middle of thinking, he hears the female officer speak to the group of people.
“Good job boys, looks like gods on our side today. Make sure the little guy is alright. You there, call an ambulance. You, Get something to cover the body. Stop showing god such a disgusting thing. We don’t want a child to accidentally see him like that too. You, call for more backup and make sure no reporters get in our way. You and you, get a search party formed. We need to make sure we find all the children that may have gotten lost. And finally you, get a statement from all the people still here. Make sure you make a list of the missing people. We can mark them down as we find them. Any questions? Good.”
After giving out all her orders, she quietly talks back into the walkie-talkie
“I owe you guys one. Next round is on me….haha…..yes I’ll make sure you boys get the finest beer on tap”
After saying those words, she turns around and heads towards the entrance.
Josh pull out the map, writing down his thoughts in an open space
*Apple orchard, check. Ellena getting lost. Uncheck. Search party was formed. Check. Jared finds Ellena. Uncheck. Becoming a hero. Uncheck. Now let's connect the dots. Setting is the same. Instead of Ellena getting lost, I’m assuming Jared or someone else did instead. The search party still formed. All that's left is finding the missing sibling or person*
With his thoughts now cleared up, he takes one more massive dose of the strong iron smell lingering in the air, then he vanishes back into the corn wall. As Josh searches the maze, he comes across other children. Some were hidden while others shivering in a corner, too afraid to move. However, with the smooth and calming voice he has mastered over the years. Josh easily calmed them down. From making young boys man up, allowing them the chance to show off to the pretty young ladies. To giving them hope of surviving and being held by their loved ones. Sometimes he even offered them prizes. It wasn’t hard to come up with a white lie. Worst comes to worst he will apologize to everyone.
*Perhaps saying that the workers are offering free goodies from the toy booth wasn’t the best idea. But you can’t complain with the results. Though, I may have a mob with pitchforks threatening me. I should be way more thankful to my boss now. Thanks to him, I have experience with calming down scared children. I guess that’s a skill more useful than I gave it credit for. Usually it landed me the most troublesome jobs. But right now it could possibly be saving lives. Guess the saying “There’s no such thing as a useless skill, just useless people” couldn't be more true.*
As he talked with the children, he traded information. Josh would pull out his map and show the children how to get out of here, while in return, they would help others they meet and inform Josh if they have seen his little brother. However there has been no luck.
*How in the hell is Jared so fucking good at hide-in-seek right now? His red hair should have been an easy give-a-way. But how is it possible that no one has seen him? Another thing that is concerning is that the female worker in the maze is still missing too. I don’t recall seeing her in the crowd earlier either.*
30 minutes have gone and passed. By this point. Josh had fully explored the maze. During the process, he finished up the map. When you now look at it, the once empty right corner now has a little picture of a house with the words (Safe) written next to it. At first, Josh thought that this house could have been a great and obvious hiding spot. However he could not find an entrance to it nor are there any windows that allowed him to peer inside.
His brother and the female worker are still missing. No one has seen any sighting of them, and the once sunny daylight is now starting to darken.
