The battle in the sky

The battle in the sky

“You are nothing but a monster” said a man with eight wings behind his back as he slashed downwards with his slender blade. His blade had an almost crescent like shape too it as light gleamed off its side. A loud ‘swoosh’ could be heard as his blade seamlessly cut through the wind missing its intended target as the two stood on the bluish red cloud. The man tightened his grip on his blade and without stopping his momentum slammed his foot on the cloud as he quickly flipped the edge of his blade upwards. Another ‘swoosh’ could be heard as he brought the blade upwards at great speeds but once again missing his target. The man jumped backwards holding his blade across his chest, the blade snapped as he met eyes with his opponent. Her eyes were a fiery red, almost as if you could see them burning with passion. Her golden hair danced in the wind as it gleamed from the light of a red ball of energy that sat above them in an unending sky. She stood 7 feet tall with strong yet slender muscles that enveloped her feminine frame. The Woman licked her smooth pink lips as she slowly lowered her foot from a kicking position. The woman’s skin was a beautiful shade of tanned brown almost reminisce of a milk chocolate; the man could not take his eyes off her perplexing beauty even as his blade quietly snapped from the impact of her strike.

As the woman slowly lowered her foot from the kicking position she smiled at the man “If you wanted to fight you didn’t have to bring all these people” she said as she gestured to all the other winged men and woman who stood surrounding the two on top the large cloud. As the tip of the woman’s foot hit the floor, she bounced forward with speeds that most of the onlookers could not comprehend. Almost as if she vanished and reappeared, she stood in front of the man with her own wings folded onto her back. She quickly brought her leg up in a crescent motion in front of the man and brought it crashing down onto his shoulder. ‘AHHH’ could loudly be heard across the skies and cloud groupings as the man fell to a single knee upon impact, but the woman was not done yet. As soon as the mans knee touched the cloud she flipped her body rapidly, using the man’s shoulder as a focal point with her other leg, and kicked the man on the side of his head. The movement was so fast it was as if she had shot her free leg out like a bullet from a gun and all that could be heard was a loud impact sound as the man went flying across the cloud into the crowd of on lookers. Before the man could crash into all the onlookers another male appeared almost as if out of no where. His dark skin gleamed with light of the red ball in the sky as he flexed his muscles and stopped the male’s momentum. He was a staggering 8 feet tall and was considerably bulkier than any of the other winged men and woman in the area. He had multiple scars on his body and face, but you could see a smile on his slightly puffed lips as his pure blue eyes met with the fiery red eyes of the woman who so kindly delivered this man into his arms. He put the male on the cloud and ruffled his short silver hair that sat on his head. He clicked his tongue as his lips parted to address the woman who was now standing staring directly at him.

“I told them to wait for me, now look.” He said with a sigh at the end, despite the fear of the other onlookers he seemed much more relaxed. He took a step towards the woman being careful not to step on the now dead man on the floor. His eyes had a certain confidence to them, yet under the surface you could feel something else. “Maple, we’ve had enough of you” said the male as he cracked his neck after slightly moving it to the left. The woman smiled menacingly as an aura exuded from her body. This aura was a black tinted red and no one dared to even breathe in its presence under the fear of being consumed by it. The aura slowly creeped across the cloud as the woman’s smile became broader. The male standing across from her then sighed as he exuded his own black aura that was tinted blue. Without a word all the onlookers charged at the woman now known as Maple. “Don’t blame me for this, you brought it upon yourself”. It was as if everything was moving in slow motion as the two spoke to each other.

“Ryu, why do you think I would be mad?” An even more terrifying smile adjourned itself on her face as the words escaped her lips, “this is going to be the most fun I’ve had in hundreds of years!”. The woman then struck at the first person within her range by quickly shooting her leg up in a straight line, catching them right under their jaw. She then swung her foot to the right launching the persons body at three people charging at her from said direction. As the limp body made contact with the three foes, she jumped forward into the air kicking the body with both of her legs pushing all 4 bodies across the cloud. She then landed on all fours ducking under a large blade, she pounced forward tackling the blades wieldier and a crack could be heard as their spine caved in on itself. Her and the now dead body crashed into another person who was running toward her and before they even realized they had been pierced by the large blade that was previously in possession of the now dead body on top of him. The woman then flipped backwards avoiding a low kick that was aimed at her face by another large, winged man, but his chain of attack did not end there as he used the momentum of his low kick to spin his body and deliver a heel kick into Maple’s now raised forearm. The kick was enough to send Maple, who was mid flip, flying. Another winged woman behind the man that delivered the heel kick got into a throwing position as she cocked back her left arm. In her left hand was a large white spear and as soon as she had found her target, she threw her left arm out like a bullet, letting loose the spear. As the spear flew toward Maple it was almost as if part of the cloud had parted due to the force of the thrown object. Maple had just landed on her feet and as she looked up, she saw the spear right in front of her face, she quickly moved her head to the side to avoid being pierced but as she moved her head she was met with a punch from the same male who had sent her flying with his heel kick. The punch was not enough to do damage too Maple but knocked her off balance as two more spears flew her direction. Maple had a smile on her face as she caught both of the spears, completely stopping their momentum without moving herself. She then lowered her center of gravity and took a fighting stance with both the spears in her hands. “Is this the best you have to offer me Ryu?” she questioned as she looked up at Ryu who was floating in the air observing the battle. Ryu did not respond but instead the male who now stood to her right charged at her, Maple tightened her grip on the spear and let out a furry of jabs at the male piercing his body several times as he tried to avoid it. Before she could deliver the final blow, a smaller man who sat about 6 feet slashed at one of her spears deflecting it. He was pushed back due to the impact but as soon as he regained his balance he charged at Maple with the now heavily injured man. Both parties tried to deliver several blows, the injured man sending several kicks aimed at different parts of Maple body in rapid succession, and the smaller man swinging his blade in a complex pattern not once stopping his overall motion but instead flowing the strikes together. This was all for naught as Maple dodged each blow with slight movements in her body, it almost looked as if children were floundering trying to beat an adult. Maple ducked under a final sword strike and at the same time struck the smaller man with the back end of one of the spears, the strike shifted his entire body to the left giving maple and opening to Jab at the larger male’s head. As her spear pierced his head, she abandoned it grabbing the other spear with both hands as she deflected several sword strikes. She then caught the man’s blade with the flat side of her spears blade and thrusted her spear into the man’s shoulder, as she did that she was forced to abandon her spear as serval winged men and woman rushed toward her at once.

Ryu looked down at the woman and said in a mocking tone “Is that the great Maple? Running from her opponents?” he said with a snicker at the end. Maple locked eyes with Ryu briefly and all Ryu could feel in that moment was all encompassing fear. Maple sighed as she jumped back making space between her and her opponents. She took a stance and a large amount of aura gathered around her body. Seconds went past and the opponents tried to close the gap as the aura converged on her fist. Once the aura no longer enveloped her body and only her fist Maple let out a strike that none of the people charging at her could even see. Before anyone could react or even close the gap her fist was already shot in front of her as she held her punching stance, holes appeared in the chests of all ten opponents. Maple looked up to see the reaction of Ryu but in her concentration, he had already moved from his spot in the sky and was now behind her. Before Maple could turn to defend herself, Ryu struck downwards cutting along four of her wings and back as she tried to dodge. Maple rolled forward and hopped back onto her feet now facing Ryu who had a large gathering of winged men and woman behind him. As She and Ryu locked eyes he said, “No Maple, we still have a lot more to go.”

The anger on Maples face was enough to make several of the men and woman on Ryu’s side falter and take several steps back. Her brows were arched, and you could see veins extruding form her face. She could feel a stinging sensation from her back where Ryu had made his cut and noticed that 4 of her wings were no longer attached to her back. Her aura spiked as the large wound on her back began to close, and once the bleeding subsided so did her aura. Maple calmed down and began taking steps towards Ryu and his small army. The woman who was previously throwing spears at Maple made a terrifying scream and Ryu darted his head around to see that she had several spears stuck in her body. Without anyone taking notice Maple had quickly snapped the spears sticking out of the dead bodies and threw them at the woman. Even Ryu was terrified noticing the movements were to fast for even him to comprehend. He let loose a battle cry as he flew towards Maple, but Maple remained calm and unflinching. As Ryu got into range to strike at Maple, he thrusted his hand toward her face with his fingers locked together in the shape of a spike. Maple caught the strike before Ryu was able to touch her and simply flung his hand away. Before she was able to strike Ryu, four large winged men with great axes appeared surrounding Maple. They all swung their axes at her head at the same time, but this was nothing as Maple appeared standing on one of the male’s shoulders before his axe could even hit the floor. Maple then stepped down on the male’s shoulder sinking half his body downwards. He let out a sharp cry of pain as one of the other men diverted their swing trying to catch one of maples legs, Maple simply jumped over the axe letting it swing into the male’s neck. One of the other men let out a battle cry as they threw their axe at Maple while she was in the air, but Maple simple caught the axe by its blade completely stopping its momentum. She smiled devilishly at the man who threw the axe as she flipped its handle into her hand and used it to strike at all four of the men. The impact of the strike blew all four of the men into a state of nothingness.

Behind maple a man with a rapier stabbed at maples back, but without looking Maple contorted her body around his strike and delivered a swift chop to his neck with her free hand. The chop completely displaced the man’s head from his neck, and she kicked his head into the face of a woman who was attempting to rush at her from the left side. Maple finally landed on her feet now surrounded by three men and two women. They all spread their wings and attempted to fly away but Maple pressed her fingers together in the shape of a blade and swung a crescent slash into the air. The mere air pressure from Maples swing cut all the opponents looking to fly away in half at once. As their bodies fell to the floor Maple rushed towards Ryu who had hidden himself behind his small army. “RYU!” she shouted at the top of her lungs as aura once again surrounded her body, the aura began to ripple as she flew forward at even faster speeds. Maple had appeared in front of a man holding a large shield and whispered, “brace yourself, no Polaris fights with a shield”, as the last word escaped her lips she gathered her fingers in a spike formation and pierced the shield of the man along with his chest. She then used her hand which had impaled the man’s body to swing him in front of a sword strike of a decidedly slenderer woman. The woman’s strike had split the male body in two in a diagonal line but to her surprise once the two sides of the male’s body fell to the floor, Maple was no where to be found. She looked to her left and right franticly before she received a blow to the top of her head from a descending Maple. The strike flung the woman’s whole body to the floor and its impact with the cloud caused it to bounce back up as if it was a ball. As the woman’s body flew up Maple struck her mid section with a round house kick as she landed. Once on the floor Maple was surrounded by several armed men and woman, once again she flared her aura all over her body causing a few of them to be pushed back. With the slight delay in their attacks Maple flexed all her muscles and took each blow. All the Polaris were amazed that they had been able to strike her, but that soon faded as they realized none of their attacks had managed to pierce her skin.

Maple grinned as she flexed all her muscles and flared her aura once more knocking all her attackers back. There was a moment of silence as everyone fixed their gazes at Maple who stood in the middle of several bodies. Maple looked left and right at the gallery of fighters and sighed “Its one hundred to one and yet all I see in your eyes is fear”. She had a brief pause as some of the fighters jumped back at her words, the sadness could be seen in her eyes as she looks down at all the dead Polaris in her wake, “you’re not fighting for you, your enjoyment or even your gain. Your all fighting because you fear me, but at the same time your ashamed are you not?”. She quickly breathed in before exclaiming in tears “Is this what we’ve become? Beings that cower in the face of power instead of rebelling?!” Her aura flared but a great sadness could be felt from it, it was apparent to all the on lookers that not even Maple, their ‘God of war’, wanted such carnage and lose of life. “Ryu!” she screamed and all of the fighters made way to reveal him.

Before she could speak Ryu exclaimed, “Do you think we all want to fight the same losing battle everyday? Do you think just because your strong it gives you the right to impose yourself on the weak?!”. He closed his eyes before they shot back open, his bluish black aura flaring all around him. “I’m going to change who we are as a people Maple! I’m not going to continue to senselessly fight and fuck, command and demand, listen and follow!” Maple had clearly heard enough, as she appeared in front of Ryu and swung down with her hand in a bladed shape. The strike separated Ryu’s left arm from his body and he kicked at Maples stomach as he retched in pain.

Maples face could not be seen as she fell off the edge of the reddish blue cloud. All that could be seen were her tears as she willingly let her body fall. Maple had concluded there was no longer a place for her among the Polaris, and as she fell she pondered if their ever really was.
