“Ariah!” My brother yelled, as he tried to reach for me and balance Eamon at the same time. Reese stumbled and fell to the ground on top of Eamon with Roderick tripping and falling to his knees. He quickly leapt to his feet, running towards me but the monster brought it’s other hand up and its fingertips started to glow pink.
“Stay back! It’s going to attack!” I cried, scrambling to get away.
The creature pulled me by my legs as I dug my fingernails into the grass and dirt in an attempt to keep myself from its grasp. Gritting my teeth, I kicked as hard as I could but it held tightly, slowly squeezing my torso as it did so.
The floating figure came and hovered above us, I looked up and saw a masked face covered in what appeared to be shiny navy blue material of a hooded cloak. They frowned as if deciding what to do next.
“Help me!” I gasped as the air left my body.
Chanting slowly, the figure raised their hands as light and flames started to churn at their fingertips. Pulling their arms back and then throwing them forward, they sent a rain of lightning and fire towards the monster hitting it between the eyes. Staggering back on its feet, it roared and shook its head with its eyes closed in pain.

The figure swirled light in their palms, flames licking at their fingertips as they launched another attack at the creature but instead of it hitting its intended target, the monster turned me into the path of the flame and the full force of it hit me in the chest. I gasped as my heart absorbed the majority of energy from the blast and then I cried out in agony as it swept throughout the rest of my body, burning every cell.
I felt the pressure of the energy pushing outwards and the pain was unlike anything I’d ever felt before.
I closed my eyes, waiting for the explosion and for death to take me, but it didn’t come. Instead I felt my cells change from burning to warm and an overwhelming feeling of energy and power surged from within me. My heart felt synergised with everything around me and suddenly I was hyper aware of everything about the situation I faced.
I felt the power of it all surge throughout my muscles and the strength within them was supercharged, making me feel stronger than I’d ever felt before. I pushed my arms outwards, pushing the monster’s fingertips open and breaking its grasp. Taking a deep breath in, the air I inhaled felt cool and crisp, filling my lungs with even more power.
The creature growled and tried to regain its hold on me but I pushed it away, swatting its fingers into the air. It came for me again, and that’s when I realised that I hadn’t fallen when I’d been released from its hold.
I was floating.
