As we ran carrying him across the grass verge to the car park, Eamon woke groggily and saw the giant creature over our shoulders. He screamed in pain and surprise as he began wriggling in our grasp, trying to get down to run himself.
“Eamon! You need to calm down otherwise we’re going to drop you!” Reese cried as she adjusted her grip around Eamon’s legs. He cried out again as she accidentally rubbed against his wounds. She moved her hands further down his legs to avoid hurting him but he just cried out even louder.
“Eamon, you need to calm down and stay quiet. We know you’re in pain, but you’re endangering all of us.” I leant in and whispered in his ear. He looked at me, his eyes full of confusion.
“Ariah?” He said and touched his forehead to mine in exhaustion. His skin was burning hot and I could feel the beads of sweat running down his face. “Ariah, what’s going on? What’s happening?”
“We’re not sure, but there is some kind of weird creature destroying the school.” I panted as we ran faster.
Using its hands, the monster reached for us as we ran. I willed my legs to go faster so that we would outrun its reach but I felt its fingers wrap around one of my legs pulling me back. I squealed, letting go of Eamon and falling to the ground as the monster turned onto its stomach with me in its grasp.

“Ariah!” My brother yelled as the others collapsed into a heap, unbalanced without me there to help take some of the weight of Eamon. Roderick jumped up and started to run towards me but the monster brought it’s other hand up and its fingertips started to glow pink.
“Stay back! It’s going to attack!” I cried.
The creature dragged me back towards it, my fingernails digging into the grass and dirt in an attempt to get traction and pull against it. I gritted my teeth and kicked as hard as I could but it held me as tightly as it had the first time, squeezing slowly as if it wanted to squeeze the life from my body.
The floating figure came and hovered above us, I looked up and saw a masked face covered in what appeared to be shiny navy blue material of a hooded cloak. They frowned as if deciding what to do next.
“Help me!” I gasped as the air left my body.
Raising their hands, they started chanting slowly and light and fire started to churn at their fingertips. Pulling their arms back and then flexing them forward, they threw a rain of lightning and fire towards the monster striking it between the eyes. It roared and shook its head with its eyes closed, its pain obvious as it staggered to get back up on its feet.
The figure let out another round, flames licking at their fingertips as they launched more at the creature but instead of it hitting its target, the monster lifted me up in the assault’s path and I gasped in shock as the full force of it hit me in the chest. My heart absorbed the majority of energy from the blast and then it swept throughout the rest of my body, burning every cell.
The pressure of the energy pushed outwards and the pain was unlike anything I’d ever felt before. I screamed as I exploded into a trillion pixels.
