Chapter 2- The birth of a Prince
In the great city of Norhaven, the shining capital of one of the five kingdoms that ruled the continent of Yeqall, residents were cheering and getting into a festive mood as King Bernadus the Valiant had himself just announced the birth of his first child and had announced to the world in great joy that he would become the crown Prince and therefore the next King. To top it off, he had announced the start of a five day long celebration of the birth of the Prince- where on the fifth day, the child would be given his name.
This had led to the city being filled with cheers in every corner and jumped straight into the celebration of the Prince. The king had brought them great advancements and thus, Needless to say the residents too were truly overjoyed.
The castle, a magnificent building which loomed over the rest of the city and the residence of the royal family, was filled with people running about to prepare for the sudden celebration their Lord had ordered to servants getting ready all the necessities for the new born baby. Bernadus the Valiant himself had found himself to be unable to stop smiling as he had a baby boy who had been born without any hitch into this world. He had lavishly rewarded the wet nurse with a necklace or two for a job well done.
He had asked his Queen to lay and rest until he brought his child to the head general of a the army and the high mage to have his aptitude tested. He had no worries for even if the child were to have no chance to become a great mage or warrior he could just follow the path of knowledge, 'which would undoubtedly help him to deal with those pesky nobles' the king thought.
He soon found himself in a courtyard where he had summoned the high mage, Maxiflo, and the head general,Walter Gladstone. Both were leading figures in the area of magic and the military respectively. Walter Gladstone was from the Noble Gladstone family, a family of firebird demi humans in this human majority Kingdom. He was not only probably the most powerful person in the military but also the whole Kingdom - for his 'mark' was the mythical creature, The Phoenix. On the other hand Maxiflo was a commoner, and thus did not have a surname and yet just at the age of 21 - he took the title of high mage by proving himself to be the most powerful mage in the kingdom. Two years down the road and at the age of 23, he had been chosen over many other much wiser mages to be the one to check the new born prince's abilities.
Walter walked up and checked the body of the Prince and was pleasantly surprised to learn that the boy had an unnaturally tough body, for a baby, and he did not seem physically unfit from any angle and thus nodded his head to inform the king that the Prince was good enough to try for the path of a warrior. Thought whether or not he would be talented enough to reach the strength of all least a general depended on how determined he was and how skilled he would be in the use of weapons.
Maxiflo the went up to check the Prince and pressed his chest into an attempt to feel the datian. Personally he did not expect much from the boy as to him even other great mages were but small fishes in an equally small pond, that was this Kingdom. However when he probed the datian once again - he found himself surrounded by darkness and towering over him a huge gate. His hands shivered, his body felt as though he was squeezed, his hearts be a in slowed to almost only three to four beats per minute and he was in a near death state. Yet he was not afraid, no if one were to his face they could see the joy in his eyes. He knew what this meant - the gate of shadows and darkness. He would probably be the only one in this Kingdom, maybe even the planet who knew what this meant. In fact if any other mage were to be here-they would not have the ability to see the gate.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Maxiflo immediately removed his hand from the baby and found himself to be covered in sweat. Though he felt like it had been hours, it had only been seconds. He contemplated what to tell the king. He knew informing him of the gate was out of the question, and was something only he needed to know and something he would use in the future for his own benefits.
The king on the other hand had grown impatient and worried, and just as he was about to prompt Maxiflo to inform him on the result, Maxiflo spoke up, "Milord a great miracle has occurred, your son has an affinity for dark and shadow magic, that probably has never been seen before!" A huge smile that had been plastered on his face when he heard the starting turned into a frown when he heard that his son had an affinity to dark and shadow magic. You see a person's personality was greatly affected and based upon the affinity of the person and that was why dark and shadow mages were greatly hated, as they tended to be evil and dark just like their affinities. This made the king worry for his son as if he had the greatest affinity for dark and shadow magics ever seen before then, his son may grow to become a far too evil person.
Maxiflo knew what went on in the King's mind and was worried that he would tell his son to not even venture into magic - which would completely put an end to his plans even before they began. Thus he decided to ease the fear of the King by following on, "do not fret Milord, for your son does not only have a insanely amazing affinity for darkness and shadow but also has great affinity for fire, water and nature. This would ensure that his personality is not too tipped towards the dark side."
This news left the King not only relieved but shocked as well as his son was a never before seen genius with five affinities. It was clear that his son would grow to become a mage that the world has never seen before and thus entrusted his son's magics training to this young high mage, so as to ensure that he would have the best teacher to teach the way of magics and ensure that he does not get affected too much by the darkness and shadow affinities. He also planned to call his wife's brother who was also very adept in the way of magics, so as to ensure that a family member would also observe the growth and safety of the child.
Five days later,
It was announced at the end of the celebrations to the world that the Prince was a five affinity mage and was to be named Prince Favian Aylard.
Author note: Aylard is the royal family name. The book will probably be a two POV between the Prince and the Tiger. Next chapter will be on information on marks and magic. Maybe I will add in a bit of history as well.
