It was another Saturday afternoon Lavinia was stocking some of the shelves where folded shirts were taken from their stand. The day was going by slowly or at least it was to her. It was so slow she found herself randomly looking out of the window out into the busy bustling streets as most people stopped and shopped at every other store besides the one she worked at. It was a blessing while also a curse at the same time.. Looking away from the windows she turned her attention back to the shelves she was stocking. That's when the once sunlight-filled building turned dark now being lit up by the light bulbs in the ceiling. Lavinia turned to the window seeing as the sky got dark. She approached the window staring out then suddenly a strike of blue lighting came down and hit the pavement. The force of where the lightning strike shattered the windows from where Lavinia watched. As the window shattered the force pushed its way through sending Lavinia back crashing into a display piece. The display fell over onto Lavinia; she felt her consciousness slowly drifting in and out as mannequins fell upon her. It took a bit but she slowly opened her eyes looking forward to seeing that the impact of the lightning strike was now a circle of blue energy weaving in between itself. Then the portal proceeded to expand and contrast then finally it opened up cracking and sizzling. The energy then turned red, shaking as it proceeded to expand opening up. Lavinia was shocked at this and she finally regained consciousness standing up slowly. She started to shake looking at the circle of energy, “no..there's no way..is this a gate eruption..?” Everyone was always told and warned about this event; it was considered borderline catastrophic. Suddenly from the portals a bunch of shadows seemed to form on the other side. Then with a push the shadows doused in light gained color revealing themselves as orcs. Lavinia stares quietly mostly in shock and fear as the orcs look around at the many innocent people knocked over on the ground from the force of the portal appearing. Many were running away from the scene. The ones that were running seemed as if they were in the clear. They were going to escape and live this encounter then suddenly bolts of magic went. They were sharp purple bolts that pierced the people's chest. The people stopped gurgling up blood as they slowly collapsed over going limp. Their faces turned pale as life slowly left their bodies. Lavinia looked for the source of the bolt looking from the direction of it; she traced it back to a creature on the back of some of the orcs; there were some smaller creatures she eventually spotted as goblin mages. She tried to move and she had to get out of here if they saw her she was dead.. Taking one step she suddenly felt a surge throughout her body she started to shake gasping causing herself to stumble. Her body started to throb in pain. She heard about this before it finally happened? She stumbled falling to one of her knees causing a loud noise as she tried to grab onto something knocking stuff over. That's when two orcs started to walk towards her. She looked over, feeling lighter she immediately recovered. It finally happened that she had reached awakening. Lavinia looked at the orcs. She did not know how strong she was but..she would not let her life end here especially after she finally awakened. Lavinia looked around grabbing a pipe from a display that was now collapsed and fell over. She picked it up holding it like a bat. She then clenched it tightly, shaking and she awakened but she was still terrified, still staring death in the eyes. She sighed, “ok..come at me you ugly freaks!” She then proceeded to rush as the pair of orcs. Getting closer to the orcs she went for a swing into one of their arms she hit it with full strength as the pipe made contact with the orcs tough skin the pipe seemed to vibrate stopping against its skin. The orc seemed unphased as it looked down at Lavinia. She looked up at it in shock it was over she did not even make it flinch that's when she looked to her right to see a wooden club swinging at her. Quickly she held the pipe out in front of her to try and block it. She seemed to contest the club for a millisecond before she was hit feeling the force ripple across her entire body. She went flying across the store and into a wall being sent through it. She ended up outside in an alley after hitting another brick wall from the neighboring building. She coughed up blood as she felt her bones cracking her chest hurt, her head was throbbing with pain, and her ears were ringing. She tried her best to get up and she ended up getting on all fours, her head hanging looking at the ground. She looked over at the hole she came out of and her vision was blurry but she could make out the two orcs walking towards the hole. Without even knowing it she was crying she fell over from all fours now sitting against the wall. Was she accepting her fate? Maybe.. The orcs proceeded smashing through the wall now standing over Lavinia one of the orcs raised its club. Lavinia was begging for her life, choking on her sobs as if begging was going to work on these monsters. Then in a blur the orc that was going to swing upon her seemed to yell in pain as it fell over. The other orc followed suit. Lavinia could not really see what was happening before she inevitably passed out. Soon she heard the sound of beeping as her eyes slowly opened. She looked around as her eyes slowly opened to what seemed to be a hospital room looking to her left and she saw a heart monitor the source of the beeping. She groaned as her head was pounding with pain she sighed looking towards the door as it opened slowly a nurse peeking her head through the door. Seeing how Lavinia was awake she quickly walked in standing in front of the bed, “It's good to see you awake. You seem to have been in a player related accident.. An official from The Player Association is here to see you now…” The nurse then proceeded to leave the room. Then shortly after a man in a black suit walked in, “Good morning..miss Lavinia.. Due to the unexpected Gate Eruption we have been going around and testing many of the survivors for awakening status..so if you would not mind participating..” She nodded a bit loosely paying attention as a cart was rolled in from the door this time a woman in another black suit pushing it bringing it to the bed. The man then cleared his throat, “This is a mana orb we use this to test a players rank so if you would not mind place your hand on the orb and take a deep breath for us.” Lavinia nodded a bit before placing her hand onto the orb she then took a deep breath soon exhaling it then started to feel like the orb was draining something from her. She gasped as it was draining her magic. She didn't have much of the magic, but it was draining and soon exhausted her. Soon it got the rest of her magic letting go of her hand as she fell back breathing heavily. The woman in the suit started to read a tablet, sighing a bit looking at the man she nodded a bit, “she awakened but..she's only E-Rank.” The man nodded a bit looking towards Lavinia, “congrats on awakening your rank is E-Rank which is the lowest rank sadly but still you awakened so that counts for something!” Lavinia caught her breath before tearing up, “E-Rank? Are you sure..? Let me try again! Please.” The man sighed deeply, shaking his head, “trying again will not change anything, it is set in stone..you are E-Rank now have a good day..oh and make sure to call the association when you get out of the hospital..” He then placed a white card on the table next to her bed before they both ended up leaving the room. Lavinia started to fully cry tears running down her face. She covered her face with one hand as her other arm was wrapped up. The only way she's able to even be conscious was because she awakened which players usually have better recovering speeds. Lavinia could hardly see from her tears it hurt..she could barely kill any high ranking monsters. How could she care for her brother like this! Whenever she is this weak! She continued to cry laying in that hospital bed. She ended crying herself to sleep eventually waking up finding herself still in that same bed she sighed her eyes ached from the crying she did. The pain was still there as she moved but she ended up getting out of the bed carefully while attached to the machines she dragged the heart monitor and IV with her in the middle of the floor. She sighed heavily she may be E Rank but she will not accept that as how strong she will be. So then she begins to train doing multiple exercises in this small room of hers. Due to the accident she was in they wouldn’t let her leave for a couple weeks. She thinks it was 5 or 6 but was not really sure. So instead of sitting around she would take this time to get her body moving and ready for whatever comes next. It was when she was 2 weeks into the hospitalization her body was still weak but her arm was able to slightly move. She wanted to be fully recovered. If she was she would not be so weak..while doing push ups she would rise up from one of them then immediately collapse in sweaty mess. She frustratedly hit the ground and felt like she was going to cry again. That's when she felt defeated she could not grow her strength she could not become stronger she was destined to be a lowly e-Rank.. At her lowest moment she looked up as a blue light shined above her. It was a screen but it was floating? She slowly got up staring at it. The screen dawned the colors of a dark blue with white text in the middle of it. She was in shock as she read the text.
