Chapter 5: Date (3)

The next two rooms were Rest Stop, and Shop. The Tutorial Dungeon planned on introducing the basic blocks that every player needed to know before they move onto playing the game itself. But it also leaves room for players to discover other mechanics for themselves, such as the .

Since they’d completed the basics, they were rewarded with <100 Dungeon Coins> each. Ruelle and Silas decide to rest at the Shop while they browse through the options available for purchase. Unfortunately for them, despite exploring every nook and cranny, this Tutorial Dungeon didn’t have the Weapon Room they desired.

“Basic healing potions are 20 coins each…Basic mana potions are also the same price. It’s all the same, thank goodness.” Ruelle let out a sigh as she bought herself a healing potion. The vial instantly went into her inventory. “Is there even anything we can buy in the Weapons section?”

There are two sections in the Shop: Basics Section, and the Weapons Section, most players tend to find that the temporary buffs and healing potions more useful, considering that the weapons sold by the Shop don’t have a very high grade. However, it’s certainly still useful for early game players, not to mention the fact that some low-grade weapons can still have their use even until late game.

It’s not like they have a choice at the moment, considering that they had no access to the Weapon Room for the better equipment.

RetiZn wasn’t a dungeon player, so he only trusted Crowfest’s words as a person on the leaderboard. “What exactly am I looking for again? You said right? All I’m seeing are F-grade weapons.”

The Basic Section of the Shop have limited sale slots, mainly the two basic or higher-grade health and mana potions, and two other spots for different items like buff potions, food, or utility items. The Weapon Section, however, can have up to ten slots opened at once.

“If there’s nothing, I’m going to buy a Haste Potion,” Ruelle looked at the green vial floating on top of the display shelf. The price tag beneath it said that it was 40 DCs each, meaning she could possibly buy two with her remaining budget. “The are exactly 180 DCs, so we have to combine our coins in order to buy it…Of course, it’s not like there’s a high chance of it appear—AH!”

Silas’ head immediately turned at her sudden shout. His widened eyes noticed her dropped jaw. “Crow? What’s wrong?”

“That one at the back, Rez! The staff!” Ruelle rushed over just as Silas came to a stop in front of the display shelf she pointed at. Encased within the glass box, a lean staff floated within. It has a wooden pole, at one end was a simplistic gold tip, and the other sprouted a deep blue crystal, the shine from the mineshaft’s torches gave it a mystical glow. ”That’s the ! It’s only D-grade, but it’s one of the best basic mage weapons you can use!”

[‘Ruelle Peregrine’ transferred <80 DCs> to ‘Silas Salvador’.]

[Received <80 DCs>.]

”Huh?” Silas gave Ruelle a confused look. “You’re not going to use it? Why are you giving me the money?”

“Why would I use it when you have a higher magic stat than I do?” Crowfest’s head slightly crooked. “I’ve always thought about it, but maybe it was difficult to reform Silas into a Salvador knight because he was meant to be a mage. It made sense considering that his magic stat is higher than the average person.”

RetiZn frowned, but he didn’t dismiss her claim either. There was logic to her words. He never thought of it that way before since Silas Salvador simply looks like those types of redemption characters. What would be a better way to fix his image than to become the strongest swordsman in a family filled with knights?

But the storyline didn’t matter now, if necessary, he could simply switch to using a sword. At the moment, he needed to utilize his best stat if he wanted even the slightest chance to defeat the Tutorial Dungeon. “…You’re right.” Nothing is certain anyway, so he gave her a short answer before purchasing the weapon.

[Would you like to equip the as your ‘Primary Weapon’?]

Silas summoned the staff into his left hand. It was heavy, but not too much to be a problem carrying it around during a fight. “This thing surprisingly weighs a lot.” He lifted it up slightly before letting it fall to the ground. The dull ‘thud’ that it made upon contact sounded like a solid metal rod against concrete. He took out the Peregrine dagger from his inventory. “Here, since I don’t need it anymore, you can have an extra weapon.”

“Thanks,” Ruelle took the dagger, wielding it in her hand for a moment before it disappeared in a flash of light, replaced a moment later by a vial of health potion. “Fair trade.” She joked with a smile.

“Fair trade.” Silas responded, gladly returning her humor as he took the potion into his inventory. He looked around the dull, cubical stone room one last time. “Is that everything we need? Should we make a plan to come back here later?”

“I mean, even if we want more stuff, we don’t have any money to buy them.” Ruelle shrugged, finding herself a nearby box to sit on. “I guess the only thing to do now is plan out how we can defeat the .”

The Tutorial Dungeon gives another insight into the main aspect of a dungeon-crawler game: its multiple layers. The dungeons in Dungeon Regime have 3-4 floors per portal, with Elite Monsters guarding the lower floors below the .

Difficulty of the dungeons scales with the players’ level, so the chances of seeing a becomes higher the more powerful the player becomes.

Of course, the same applies to the Tutorial Dungeon, which simply ends the moment the player defeats its sole Elite Monster.

“The normally non-interactable objects now have their use…the entire aspect of the dungeon itself has gotten more realistic than before,” Silas also found himself a seat. The nearby wooden boxes proved to be useful, even if they may be completely empty inside. “Our strategy options should be more diverse…Ah. Since the dungeon typically follows a theme, we can assume that the Elite Monster will be the .”

Ruelle nodded along, crossing her arms as her head tilted while in thought. “It’s twice the size of a regular Black-armored Spider, so it trades speed for more power and defense. But since it’s a beginner mob, it’s also weak to magic,” She clicked her tongue, the snap of her fingers at the end added a dramatic effect to her words. “Aren’t we lucky? We just happen to have a mage right here.”

“-Whose only spell is a D-tier Magic Missile.” Silas added with a raised index finger. Seeing the look of disdain on Ruelle’s face, he quickly added, lowering his hand. “But point taken.”

Ruelle sighed. “Anyway, I suggest we go take out those monsters we left behind. Buying some haste potions should give us more of a fighting chance.”

“It’s a shame that our picnic basket didn’t make it with us.” Silas shrugged as he rose to his feet. “Well, now that we have an inventory, we don’t have to worry about losing our items anymore.”

“How would that even work anyway?” Ruelle asked with a raised eyebrow. They began to backtrack to the first room. “In the game, we just consume food with the click of a button…do we have to eat in the middle of a fight?”

“I mean, probably,” he responded, bringing up the minimap in the process. “If it’s really inconvenient for us, we should just focus on getting potions instead. Food buffs aren’t really that important anyway.”

”That’s true…but they still buff every stat, and it lasts way longer than potions.” Her brows ceased into a straight line. For a dungeon maniac who values even a singular hitpoint of damage, she didn’t like the fact that they would be missing out on the extra power boost. “…Maybe we can just have a picnic outside the boss room before we fight.”

Silas chuckled. “Exercising immediately after a meal might lead to indigestion.”

“The buff lasts for a long time anyway, waiting a bit shouldn’t be a problem.”

They stopped in front of the trapped corridor. It should be safe for them to cross now since they’d already passed it once, but just to be sure, Ruelle kicked a stray stone towards it.

As expected, nothing happened, so the two of them calmly walked over where the spikes once hid. Now, the next challenge lies in the four black-armored spiders in the next room.

Ruelle summoned a dagger into each hand, and Silas readied the Sapphire Staff. After casting a glance at one another, they walked inside.
