Prologue: What Has Happened

Prologue: What Has Happened

Over ten thousand years ago, the world's civilization was a great and advanced place.  Magitech advanced far and beyond, and the people of the world had begun expanding into the stars even, breaking free from their planet and using magic and magitech to help settle and colonize plenty of worlds.  Although monsters, formed from excess and corrupted magical energy, plagued all the known worlds, there were soldiers, mages, warriors, and the like to stop them.

But one day, the outer most colonies were suddenly dark.  No one could make contact with them, no one could reach them.   At first, they thought it might be a technical issue, or some sort of interference.  But then, more and more colonies began to go dark, and all the investigation teams either went silent, or their last messages were filled with screaming and slaughter.  That was when humanity knew that it was under attack.

Following that, more and more colonies fell to chaos, with people getting wiped out as the dark force finally made its way to the homeworld, Oria.  From there, the civilizations came under attack by an army of monsters, much stronger then before, led by a powerful being.  This being enhanced and controlled the monsters, and let loose destruction, especially targeting magitech and the places with advanced magical technology and magic knowledge.  For awhile, nothing seemed capable of stopping him.

But then two figures stood forward, a slightly tall woman holding a great sword, using Spirit Arts with her weapon to give it power and abilities that surpassed what was normal by far.  And by her side was a shorter male, who used advanced and powerful magic that was able to bring down the armies.  Those two, known as the Surai Duo, seemed unmatched, surpassing anything and everything this commander of monsters had.

However, the battle against him himself was great.  Although they used all of their power, in the end, the smaller mage, who was weaker, ended up being given a mortal wound by him as the warrior finished him off.  He dealt her a terrible wound as well, but not as badly as the mage, who lay on the ground, the commander's blood poisoning his own.  The female, worried for her partner, and her lover, decided to cast a great and mighty spell, harnessing the power and thoughts of those who prayed and were given hope by them.  Holding her lover tight, she utilized her spirit arts to bond with his magic, and so they could remain side by side forever while ensuring the safety of the world, she unleashed the great magic upon the world.

The two heroes died, having saved everyone.  However, without them, the threat of the monsters was still there, including the commanders and stronger varients made by the leader.  However, from the population, certain boys and girls, children at a young age, began showing signs of great power that seemed to come from nowhere.  The girls were able to manifest a form of spirit arts, and could create a Spirit Weapon, just like the famous warrior of the Surai, and while lacking the power could learn many skills and techniques.  And the boys were able to begin to display abnormally great, but occasionally unstable, magical abilities.

At first, it appeared as a blessing, as these children were far more easily able to fight against the darkness, were able to return some level of safety and security from the armies using their power.  Notably, certain traits would always appear.  As reflected by the original duo, the girls were a bit taller then average, and in addition to Spirit Arts were better physically.  Meanwhile, the mages were shorter and smaller, not as great physically but often had better mental ability, on average at least.  Since normally males were taller then females, this and the abilities they were born with made them stand out.

However, a dark truth soon emerged.  The boys had inherited not only the power, but a bit of taint from the leader whose blood had mixed with the mage.  Their powers could destabilize further, building up and running amok.  Or perhaps the blood would mess with their minds to some extent, interfering with their thoughts or perceptions.  At first, it seemed like some of their saviors would become the things that would drive humanity extinct.  That is, until the Bond was discovered and formed.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The bond was the power for the souls of a Surai Mage and Warrior, as they came to be called, formed a strong connection and link.  By doing so, the Warrior could utilize the power of the mage to some extent, and help keep him in check and his powers stable using her own ability.  It was part equal contract, part oversight and control of the mage by the warrior, but in the end, as more and more formed Bonds, they discovered the truth.  Bonds could not be formed by just anyone, and alone, they would not be enough to keep the powers in check.  A strong and proper Bond, which could only be formed with a single person at a time, can only be formed by a Mage and a Warrior, two Surai who were highly compatible with each other emotionally, and soul wise.

Which meant, as Academies were formed to help these children learn of their new gifts, there was two main focuses to help them.  The first was that they would learn how to harness and utilize their magical powers and Spirit Arts.  And the second main focus of the schools, although not entirely publicized...was to have them date and form couples from a young age to see who was compatible and could eventually bond together!

Yes, in other words they have to date!  Furthermore, there are various people who believe the more embarrassing and awkward situations they get placed in, the better!  And with the girls really getting active and for it more then the boys typically do, it can be quite the nightmare for them.  But perhaps everyone will find true love in the end?

----------------------------------------

"Name: Era.  Age: 13.  Height: 128cm.  Weight: 65 lbs.  Hair: Aqua Blue.  Eyes: Deep blue.  Region of Origin: Pasri.  Town of Origin: Waypool".

While looking over the papers, a woman looked over the contents of the ID, and then the boy who possessed them.  Thirteen years old, but he was short.   But that was nothing new for this city.  That said, even among the boys that came through here, this one was exceptionally cute.

"I see, what a cutie you are.  Perhaps we should have a full physical inspection, before you see the nurse" she said a bit teasingly, with a wink.  Era however just blushed and shook his head.  "Well, thats fine.  Anyways, just remember that while we might not be able to check this all, we will record it for future information and if its found out that you lied there will be a penalty".

"I understand" he said, taking the ID back.  He was wearing some black boots, black shorts, a deep blue T shirt, and dark blue cloak.  He had a rucksack with him, that he had slung over on one shoulder, and a silver bracelet on his right wrist.

"Well then, enjoy your time at Atmora, and you should probably hurry and find your way to Atima Academy before all the good spots are taken" she mentioned to him as she winked again.  The boy just nodded, and ran off towards the academy.

Man...this city is so big.  I never visited a city this big in my previous life either...

Era thought that as he ran.  After all, he was actually someone who reincarnated into this world about one year ago.  He remembered that there was some big movie company making a shot, and while watching, one of the large cranes had a malfunction or such, and it collapsed right onto him.

And then he just woke up in the middle of the woods one year ago, fished out of the pond in this new body with nothing.  No memories, no idea how he got there, not even clothes.

Its a good thing gran was so nice, even if she was a bit of a perv...although, while not common, it doesn't seem all that rare in this world either.

If he had a was to describe in, in his old world, many would think of boys being the ones suspected of peeping or being pushy, but in this world it was the girls.

Either way, it seemed that the life he had been born into in this world might not be so easy after all.  And that from now on, his troubles would only be increasing.

Those were his thoughts as he walked towards Atima Academy, preparing for his life ahead.
