The Suddenly Twins
First village.

First village.

6 days before the accident.

"Catch!" one of the boys shouted as they played the ball game. "Here! Here! Im free!" Cain waived both of his arms, signaling the boy to pass him the ball. The boy saw that one of his teammates had a free hand, so he decided to throw the ball toward him. He throws the ball with full force because he doesn't want the enemy team to catch it. Cain was delighted when he saw the ball go to him; he was already in his position to catch it, but another kid from nowhere appeared before him and caught the ball.

The other kids cheered him on, saying, "Nice catch!" The kid smiled at them, then threw the ball to his other teammates while ignoring Cain. "Hey! What's your deal?" he asked the boy angrily. "I'm the one who supposedly caught it!" He started to tantrum and pick up a rock, intending to throw it, but stopped when he realized that no one was paying attention to him. His face went red, and he started to cry but held back instead. He doesn't want to play anymore, so he walks angrily back home.

His aunt saw him crying while walking home and got concerned, so she rushed outside the house and walked toward Cain. "Are you okay? Why do you get home early?" She looked at him with concern and wiped his tears while patting his head. Cain looked at her and said, "I hate them."

His aunt asked, "Who?" "The kids! They don't want to play with me anymore and keep on ignoring me." He started to bowl his eyes out as he told his story. His aunt hugged him and said, "Don't be sad; everything will be okay by tomorrow, I promise you."

Night comes and both of them are eating their meal, and while the candle flame dance, Cain asks his aunt, "Tita, where's my sister?" His aunt puts her fingertips to her chin. "Now that you mention it, I remember she said she's going out again with the caravan." "Caravan?" Cain questioned.

"Yeah, remember the caravan that arrived the other day?" Cain tried to remember, but he could only remember the arrival of the head villager's son. "But isn't the one who arrived the son of the head chief?" he then added, "the one who my sister accompanied to the capital?"

His aunt ceases her eyebrows, heavily thinking, "Are you sure about that?" Cain looks at her, questioning her memories. "Aunt, are you okay? Is there something wrong?" His aunt suddenly stands up and puts the used plates away. "I'm okay; you don't have to worry."

Around midnight, Cain felt that someone was walking towards the exit door, and when he looked, he saw that his aunt had worn her coat and gone outside. "Cain?" She sensed Cain was awake and watching her, so she decided before leaving to approach the young boy and instruct him.

"Cain, why are you still awake?" she asked. "Uhm, I got up when I heard someone walking," he said as the boy looked at his aunt curiously. "I see, you need to get back to sleep now; your aunt needs to go and meet the chief." "Chief? Why?" She didn't reply. Instead, she went to open the door and walk outside, but before that, she reminded him, "You're a good boy, right? Just go back to sleep, and good for noticing that someone nearby; you'll be a great adult when you grow up." And when the door closed, she silently added, "If you grew up, that is."

Morana taps Cain's shoulder repeatedly and wakes him up. She points her index finger at him, then raises her palm facing out, with her index and middle fingers sticking up like the letter 'V' while her thumb is tucked at the base of the two extended fingers. Her two remaining fingers are curled in, touching her palm. Curiously to what she's saying, Jess tried to ask, but before he could say anything, a severe headache and nausea attacked him, the reason he vomited again before passing out entirely.

After vomiting, Cain appreciated her twin sister's concern: "Thanks for asking if I'm okay; you don't need to worry at all." He added, "I'm not quite sure what really happened, but my head hurts." Morana touched his cheek gently before asking him if he would come along, going back to the village. "I want to, but my legs couldn't move right now. I'll follow you back." Morana raised her right pointing finger and drew a question mark sign, asking him if he was sure.

Cain replied with a smile, and after confirming, Morana walked back to the village while playing the machete by rotating her wrist, letting go of the blade handle, and letting it spin, then rotating her wrist again to catch the blade handle. She keeps on doing it while hopping and whistling.

After several hours, Cain finally can stand up. "Aaaah, finally! I can move. I really don't know why my legs feel weak suddenly." He looks at his surroundings. It is totally dark, and the only light he can have are the four bright moons, but unfortunately, the clouds hide them for a minute, so he stays still until the moons come out.

When the moon came out, he saw the severed head of a man. He walked to it and grabbed the head. "This is what happened if you tried something bad." He looks at it, and before tossing it away, he uses both of his thumbs to gouge the man's eyes and plays it for a while. Cain smiled at how squishy the eyeballs were, neither solid nor very soft. After playing for some time, he decided to move back towards the village and find her sister.

He walked for almost thirty minutes and saw smoke coming out of the village. When he entered, he saw a lot of bodies that mutated; some of the kids were pinned down, and one of them moved and begged for his help. He answered it with a smile while patting his head, then walked away casually. He then arrived at their house, and before he entered, he called for their aunt, "Tita? Are you there?" He opened the door, and what he saw was his aunt's severe head inside the table plate, and her sister continued stabbing her dead body.

"Morana?" He saunters towards her sister. When she realized that her cute brother was here, she stopped playing. "What are you doing to Tita?" he asked. Morana replied by hugging his twin brother tightly with her hands full of blood, patting his head, then caressing his cheeks gently, leaving a trail of blood on his face. She held his hand afterwards and raised her other hand; she raised her two fingers and pointed at the door repeatedly. Cain understood that they needed to go and leave everything behind.

But before they can exit the door, Morana suddenly stops and rushes back towards the dead body of their aunt. She picked up the machete again, hacked her hand, and decapitated it. She then removed the bracelet she gave her last time.

"Why do you need to chop her hands off if you're just taking the bracelet?" He curiously asked his twin sister. She then replied by putting her right hand toward her head, then out with a fist, then raising her two fingers again, swiping the bridge of her nose, and bringing it down towards her non-dominant hand as she smiled.

"Is it really enjoyable? Can I try?" Cain's curiosity picks up; he wants to know what it feels like to stab a dead body. Morana crosses her arms with an X sign strongly against his idea, then she holds his hand and thugs her outside the house and leaves the village with no man.

The Suddenly twins left a pile of dead bodies, and some of them couldn't be recognized at all by the authorities. They still don't know who or why this tragedy happened, but for now, the twins goal is to find a new settlement to stay in.
