Chapter 12: Du Bai's Contract

Jin wanted to punch Du Bai in the face when he saw his strange behavior, but Jin controlled himself and said, "Calm down, kid, are you crazy? Why are you so excited?"

“Of course I’m excited. I’ll go nuts. I will be able to break through to the soul realm using weak and cheap monster essence. I’ll also be able to choose the right fighting skills for my elemental laws and build a solid foundation in preparation for my future entry into the Law Realm.” Du Bai said excitedly while imagining a very bright future.

Du Bai's words were true. The law realm is called the realm of despair because warriors have to start training their elemental laws, and this is a difficult thing to do, so many people get stuck in their whole lives in this realm. This is because training the elemental law before its activation leads to the destruction of the spirit form. Therefore everyone delays their training for the law techniques until they breakthrough into the law realm.

On another side, Du Bai, who will start to train early on his laws, would gain the upper hand, but things weren't that easy, without a level five beast essence at least matching with his spirit form, he wouldn't be able to break through to the Fusion Realm at all.

'His confidence seems to have forgotten him that the Law Realm is a nightmare for him too, but there is no need to ruin his joy now,' Jin thought to himself as he looked at Du Bai, who was dancing like an idiot.

"You idiot, the task of creating a contract with the devil consists of two parts, the first is difficult and the second is easy," said Jin, trying to make Du Bai calm down.

Du Bai excitedly jumped up to say, “No matter how difficult it is, just tell me what should I do?”

“The hard part is getting an immature night wolf horn,” Jin said while looking at the ring on Du Bai's finger.

“An immature wolf horn, is that the hard part? I already have one. Look at this ring. It’s made from a wolf horn. My family makes jewelry from the bones and horns of monsters.” Du Bai said, taking the ring off his finger and pouring his strength into it.

“What are you doing?” Jin said in wonder.

“I am putting my energy inside the ring.” Du Bai said, not understanding why Jin asked him such an obvious question.

"Are you an idiot? The ring was on your finger the whole time, which means it's already saturated with your energy. Also, don't do something I didn't ask you to do, and since you have the wolf's horn now, let's move on to the second part, which is the easiest."

Before Jin could finish his sentence, Du Bai interrupted him and looked at Jin excitedly. "Come on, brother, tell me what to do. I'll do whatever you ask of me, whether fighting 100 bulls or training under a waterfall for 100 years."

'Now I'd feel bad if I broke his confidence,' Jin thought.

"Part Two, You Have to Die Temporarily...."

Du Bai stopped moving, and the look of joy on his face immediately disappeared. When he looked into Jin's eyes, he was sure that Jin was being serious. Du Bai shouted as he jumped a step back.

"I have to die temporarily? You said it's the easy part. How can my death be an easy part?."

Jin shook his shoulder carelessly as if asking Du Bai to die was an insignificant matter and said, "If it weren't for the ring you had, you would have had to hunt a night wolf by yourself, which is not easy, especially since those monsters live in groups. But the issue of your death is not difficult. You don't need to do anything but lay on the ground. I will take care of the rest. You don't need to worry. In two minutes, I will send you to the spirits world to meet your devil face to face, to complete the contract with him. Then I will bring you back.”

“I think I forgot to throw the trash. My mother will go crazy if I don’t do it. I have to go, bye.” Du Bai’s voice was far away. He had already reached the door and was about to leave, but Jin stopped him.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"I'll walk to the top of this world or die trying. Isn't this sentence who brought you here?" Jin said, looking into Du Bai's eyes seriously.

Du Bai's hand froze on the door handle, his mind telling him that he should run, but his heart and ambition say the opposite. In the end, he surrendered to his heart.

“How are you going to do that? How are you going to kil….. I can’t even say it.” Du Bai said hesitantly as he looked at Jin.

"You mean how I will kill you temporarily? By magic, I will draw a magic circle on your chest, and this magic circle will stop your heart from working and will send you to the spirits world."

Du Bai's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth in surprise.

“Magic? are you a mage? No wonder you were so confident that you would pass the exam and dared to make a bet against that noble guy.” Du Bai said in shock and then realized something else, then said.

"Wait a moment. Your situation is worse than mine! No doubt you've heard the saying that says, poor people can't become magicians, yet you refused to get help from the Shen family!"

Beginner magicians need a massive amount of elixirs and resources to increase their level and improve their abilities, not to mention the magical tools they need that incredible cost amounts; without the help of these tools and elixirs, it is almost impossible for a magician to be able to increase his strength.

Du Bai, who was whining about his luck because of the precious beast's essence, realized that his misfortune was nothing in front of an ordinary mage. Jin didn't want to talk about it and asked Du Bai again.

"What do you say? Do you want to meet your devil or not?"

“Oh damn, is there no other way? I don’t know what’s terrifying, your coldness, or my death, listen if I don’t make it back, I swear that my soul will chase you forever.” Du Bai laid on the ground, closed his eyes, and clenched his fists tightly while waiting for his death. He waited a long time, but nothing happened, then he opened his eyes and shouted.

"Could you hurry up and do your thing to relieve me from the suffering of waiting?"

As soon as he had finished his words, he was surprised to see himself standing in a vast field. In the middle of that field, there was a huge gray coffin that was tied with chains, inside it was something bound and struggling to get out of it. There was a small hole in the top of the coffin cover.

Du Bai slowly approached the coffin. When he arrived in front of it, he curiously looked through the small hole to see two black wings, which he had previously seen while meditating.

-----------------------

*inhalation *

Du Bai let out a heavy breath as if trying to inhale all the air in the room, followed by an exhale that lasted for several seconds.

Du Bai's body struggled to breathe after his soul returned to his body, and only after a few minutes did his breath straighten out.

Du Bai said right away after he could breathe, “Winged... it’s a winged beast with black feathers. That’s all I’ve seen, I begged him to make a contract with me, but I don’t know if he had agreed or not before you returned me back to my body.”

"We'll know soon enough, you just have to focus and put all your energy into the ring, don't stop releasing your energy until you feel a change happen," Jin said to Du Bai with a smile on his face.

Du Bai nodded and immediately completed what he had been asked to do. After a short time, he felt a coldness coming from the ring and could no longer hold it, so he threw the ring on the table, shook his hand, and shouted.

“Cold, it’s so cold. Does that mean I have an ice element? It’s both defensive and offensive. This is the happiest day of my life.”

He began to jump and throw some punches in the air, but he suddenly stopped when he looked at the ring, which started to float in the air unexpectedly.

Du Bai turned to stare at Jin, his eyes asking what was going on? Jin answered him with a smile.

"Congratulations, you have a second element, the Wind elemental.”

When Du Bai found out that he had the Ice Law, his joy was sky-high, but now after he knew that he had a second law, he was about to die from happiness.

“Wind…..ice and wind, ice wind, freezing wind, ice hurricane…….”

Du Bai's face became strange as he entered a state of ecstasy. However, no one could tell if he was happy or hallucinating.

"Is that what you call daydreaming? He's naming his skills," Jin sighed, then approached the ring, which was still floating, and moved his hand under and over it to notice something different from what he expected.

“Du Bai, hello can you hear me, the ring floats softly, and I don’t feel any wind around it. It’s the air elemental, not the wind.”

Du Bai finally woke up from his dream and realized that the names he was thinking about and arranged were wasted.

"Air-Ice is not a suitable name for my attacks, it is not a high-sounding name, and Ice-Air is not a good name either, ................"

"You idiot, are you still dreaming? A minute ago, you were jumping out of joy at the ice law, and now you don't like the air law ?" Jin said, looking at Du Bai with disdain.

This time it seems that Du Bai woke up, his face changed, as he asked, "Air law, what is this law? I've never heard of it before."

Jin replied to Du Bai's question, "I don't know, you'll surely find something in the library, anyway don't forget that you owe me a hermit herb."

Du Bai looked at Jin in confusion. No matter how he squeezed out his brain, he couldn't remember that he owed Jin a hermit herb.

“Don’t look at me like that. I don’t remember saying that I will help you for free,” Jin said when he noticed the look of confusion on Du Bai’s face.
