Chapter 4: Run

Chapter 4: Run

“AAAHH!” He let out another heart wrenching scream that pierced through the souls of all who heard it. Even the wolf seemed to sense the pain that this child was in. Although it felt bad, it didn’t stop eating this child alive. It was hungry after all, and food was very hard to come by on this dark planet.

Soon, the child stopped screaming. He wasn’t dead however, he just couldn’t feel the pain anymore. The wolf had completely ate a chunk of his abdomen and was now working on his arm. It was a gruesome scene to anybody who happened upon it. Blood washed over the wolf’s mouth and the child was looking at the whole thing happen to him.

‘Is it over? Will I really not be able to see my family? Then why did I wake up? Was it for nothing?’ The child asked himself these questions. Then his eyes started to glow a bit brighter. “I… won’t… die…” He managed to barely squeeze out a few words from his mouth. With all the force and strength he could muster he raised his uneaten arm toward the wolf.

He weakly put his hand on the wolf’s head and tried to push away. It was so weak that the wolf didn’t even notice it at first. “Get… a… away…” He somehow said weakly. The wolf heard a noise and looked up, then it felt the blood from the child drip down its face. It snarled and bit his fingers. The child now only had his thumb left as the rest of his fingers were now gone.

Blood squirted out and landed on the wolf’s face. It just simply licked its face and continued on ripping and chewing on the child’s body.

“Humph. You do have some drive after all. I was thinking that you had only given your all back then, but it seems that you can push yourself. And I was beginning to think that you were going to end up dying again. I’ll help you out this once.”

The child began to glow with a black light and all of a sudden the wolf went stiff. Then it started to turn into black light. It’s fur, eyes, paws, belly, head… all of it began to turn into black light. That black light then shot toward the child and bore into him. In the blink of an eye the child was completely healed. His injuries, whether serious or light, were completely gone. His energy, which had been fully drained was now at its peak. The child was all alone and the wolf that had been there before, had completely disappeared.

The child looked out in disbelief and shock. What had just happened? This was the question that popped into his head at the moment. ‘I’m saved! I can see my family now!’ After experiencing this traumatic event this was still all this child could think about.

“Your name is Kain, right?” A sudden voice popped into the child’s mind again. The suddenness of it made the child jump. “Relax, I won’t hurt you. I can’t even hurt you. I’ll explain things clearly in words that you will be able to understand. First thing first, I am your soul. Second thing second, we should get out of this place because more beasts are coming. They’ve actually been following that wolf before but now they have your scent. There is a town a few kilometers ahead if you just go straight.”

Kain was at a loss of what was happening right now. All of these sudden events were too much for his 7 year old mind to handle. He didn’t know what to do as of this moment.

“Maybe you didn’t understand me the first time… RUN!” The voice resounded in his head again. Only then did Kain come to his senses. He heard a soft growl in the distance behind him and he began to sprint forward no longer caring about the situation. He didn’t know if there was  a town ahead but he had nowhere else better to go.
