As the snow continued to fall gently, Aireo quickly got some paper and a graphite pencil. She had a strange desire to copy the unique pattern that had emerge right before her eyes. Just as she finished the last of the design and lifted her pencil, the graphite began to shine and transform into liquid metal right in front of her eyes. At the same time a gentle gust of air moved the paper to the center of the bedroom. It was all very fascinating and bewitching. This all happened in a matter of second and suddenly the the drawing rose off the page into the air. At this point the shock was too much for her and she yelled out loudly. Sebastian knew better than to touch it and stayed by her side.
Not too long she heard foot steps rushing to her room and both her parents turned up. They had yet noticed the temperature had dropped, or for that matter it had been snowing. They both came to her side a little cautious of the object floating in the middle of the room. They dared not touch it, for they weren’t sure either what it was yet.
Aireo’s father Thomas asked her if she was okay and Aireo found her voice again. She softly replied she was okay. Mean while her mother Alora was studying the unique object, which was now slowly spinning clockwise. She calmly said her mother Claudia should come over and help them figure out what it was. The object was now three demential and looked too heavy to be floating, never the less it seemed to be defying gravity.
Just then her mother’s cell phone range and she went to answer it leaving in a rush. Mean while Aireo and her father were talking about how it had come into existence. When Alora came back she informed them that it was Claudia and she was on her way. The three of them stood there puzzled for what couldn’t have been more than a few minutes, when Claudia walked in.
Aireo was very surprised at the timing but said nothing about it. Instead she was about to ask about the floating object when Claudia spoke up first and asked her to look down at the paper floating below and touch it. Aireo did as she was told and then right away strange words appeared at the four corners. They were written in different sizes from the right top corner being the largest.
Aireo took this as a sign to start with the large words first. She had no idea how she was going to read it, but then suddenly she started speaking calmly and something started happening to the object, it slowly stoped spinning right and switched rotating to the left slowly. Aireo continued and with the second incantation it froze suspended in the air. She continued and when she had finished the third one the object peeled open rather quickly and a bright flash of blue light filled the room. Making everyone cover their eyes temporarily. The light quickly subsided and in the center was a star. Not a five pointed one like a geometric shape but a very small one that glowed and resigned some heat.
The room was now a comfortable temperature. Aireo looked at Claudia who just nodded her head to continue. There was no going back at this point anyway. Aireo read the fourth and last of the incantations.
A moment later they all heard a faint voice which got stronger as the star continued to glow. The voice sounded like a girls…
“Hello, I need you to take care of this StarKey. It’s important you keep it safe! Please help my sister Citlali. I’m afraid there isn’t enough time to answer all your questions right now” she said in a hushed voice which sounded far away now. “I have to go for now” she said and her voice faded out.
Then just like that Citlali’s sister was gone, and the geometric shape closed up the star. It was still suspended in mid air and Aireo looked down where she thought the paper still was below but…
To her surprise instead there was a small box, which was about the size of a matchbox and ornate with a golden seal. It was open and the StarKey began to appear shrinking to the size of a marble and slowly floated into the box. Then the lid closed and instinctively Aireo took it and held it in her hands.
At this point it was about 3:33am and they were all very tired, the adrenaline they had was fading rather quickly. Claudia spoke up “Aireo, please be careful and do not loose that. We will talk later today and we have a lot to speak to you about.” She said this as she looked at her daughter and son-in-law.
Aireo had so many questions but was too consumed with an overwhelmingly sense of needing rest. She said goodnight and climbed into her bed while Sebastian followed at the foot of her bed.
It had all been very unusual and strange how calm everyone had been, including Sebastian. For he had never made a sound or attempted anything like most cats might of. Disappearing or hissing and trying to touch the StarKey. The paper which The StarKey had derived from had ancient writing on its corners originally. It had been magical how she had been able to read the accent writing around the star symbol.
Aireo feel fast asleep right away and fell into REM sleep. As she slept, she had a vivid dream of a girl who looked about her age. The girl had dark brown hair like her with chocolate brown eyes, instead of hazel like hers.
Her hair was long and wavy and chestnut brown. The girl was dancing alone in what looked like moon light. She wore a unique and beautiful white dress which looked delicate, as if made out of woven clouds. It was fit to her knees but not tight and shined like starlight. The dress was beautiful and had sleeves that looked like petals of roses. Her shoes looked similar to espadrilles and white as well. The girl dancing stoped and studied her for a moment, waiting for her to join.
Instinctively Aireo walked over and asked her why she was alone. The girl laughed and replied I was waiting for you. “I’m Citlali, it’s important you open the box my sister gave you!” What? What do you know about it? Look at the box more closely, they’re a fake bottom that can slide open. You will find something useful and pretty too!” Citlali said then laughed.
Just as Aireo was about to ask what exactly she was looking for…she heard a faint noise in the distance and as she turned around in search of the noise; everything faded away. She then woke up to someone knocking on her bedroom door. Oh no she said under her breath, what time is it? As if on cue she heard her dad ask if she was awake. “It’s almost two in the afternoon and your mother, Claudia and I want to talk to you regarding what happened if you’re awake?”
At last she agreed and crawled to her window on her bed, half expecting the last nights snow to be all melted and disappeared completely. As if she had dreamt that too. However it wasn’t gone and it actually appeared to be a little higher than before. Except for a few animal tracts including birds it was still fresh snow.
When at last she pulled herself out of bed she noticed Sebastian was no where to be seen. At last he must of gotten hungry or bored of waiting for her. She finally brushed her hair away from her face with her fingers, tucking the long pieces behind her ears. Where on earth did Sebastian go, she wondered out loud.
Aireo walked down stairs and walked into the kitchen where her older brother Christopher was eating a sandwich. He looked up at her and nonchalantly said that their parents were waiting for her. Thus Aireo stayed in the kitchen and decided to make a bowl of cereal for her self. It wasn’t that appealing but she was hungry and impatient to make something else. Sebastian appeared just as she was pouring her cereal into a bowl and stuck his nose into the bowl. “What’s with you? Why are you acting stranger than usual?” Aireo said to him. He just looked up at her and then went back to eating her cereal. Reluctantly she gave up and poured her self another bowl. Christopher just looked on in amusement and laughed at the situation.

Just then they heard voices in the hallway, their parents and Claudia walked in talking amongst themselves. They had mentioned Aireo and she turned to them and asked what was going on. Then asked her and Christopher to take a set at the kitchen counter and so they did sitting on stools. Then speaking to Christopher and Aireo, Alora told them that Aireo was a white witch; like Claudia and her.
Christopher looked on in disbelief while Aireo smiled. She had been right in thinking that the white wolf was a strange sign of something to come. It was as if had warned her of the snow in a way. Aireo was excited and wanted to know more about magic. Alora went on, the age in which a white witch gets her powers differs from person to person. However, the weather usually doesn’t change suddenly. Christopher who was seventeen just listened and after a moment asked what he had to do with all this. Their father just said “We wanted to let you know. Then Claudia added that this information was to stay a family secret. Christopher agreed, and was then excused. He hadn’t planned on telling anyone else even his best friends Josh Rivers and their cousin Sam Marretti.
After a few minutes Claudia continued to speak to Aireo “ You must be very careful with your magic obviously and it has been decided that I will train you on controlling it.”
Aireo spoke up then “How do you know I have magic powers?” Thomas replied “The three of us have watched you grow up and notice little things that are common for magical beings. You often were drawn to all kinds of animals and loved going to the zoo. You once were talking to a lion and it strangely came up to the glass and acted like a house cat, reaching out with one of its paws at you. You touched the glass and connected. Luckily it was not very long or it would have drawn a crowd. “ Aireo now remembered that incident but had thought it a dream as she got older. “ Alora continued “Another time you some how managed to freeze water that was being spilled; you were five at the time.” This Aireo didn’t remember but believed never the less.
The events that occurred earlier in the morning showed Aireo had a gift with the ancient lost language of Nahuatl (the Native language of the Aztecs) This was an amazing and unusual gift and they didn’t understand why yet.
Aireo pondered on the last thing that was said and asked to be excused. They all agreed and then she went upstairs to her bedroom and thought to her self she should do as Citlali asked. She decided not to share her dream with anyone for the moment. It just seemed better for the time being. For she wasn’t sure what to think just yet of her dream.
Aireo went up stairs and walked to her window still, then picked up the small ornate box; that which she was given as a gift. It was prettier than she remembered. She tried to open the bottom. Aireo used her fingertips to search the edges twice and just as she was about to give up and get angry…
Suddenly, the bottom lifted and popped up. She caught it in her right hand and then set it on the windowsill. Excited Aireo carefully poured a mysterious object into her hand. A beautiful single golden star ring with a large circle center, white stone emerged. The beautiful stone was a moon stone. Aireo was so excited that without thinking she put the ring on her right pointer finger and wished out loud to see Citlali.
No sooner had she spoken the words and visualized her friend from her dream, then Aireo disappeared in front of Sebastian’s eyes. She reappeared a few seconds later in her backyard luckily under a tree with less snow. It was warm enough that she didn’t freeze up. Just as strangely there in the center of her backyard she saw Citlali playing with the snow which was lightly falling once more. She was trying to catch the snow in her hands and laughing. “What are you doing here” Aireo asked her, not thinking about the fact she had just teleported.
Citlali looked confused, then started talking loudly in a concerned tone. Unfortunately, Aireo didn’t understand her as she was not speaking English and apparently the language of Nahuatl. Aireo was limited on the language. Then Citlali started to cry, and Aireo took her hand and they went inside looking for Claudia. She knew Claudia would be able to help as she knew many languages herself. They found Claudia and Aireo’s parents drinking coffee in the kitchen. “Who’s your friend” asked Aireo’s mother…
Aireo spoke up and rehashed her dream from the previous night and then caught them up to the present moment. Meanwhile Citlali was talking in a low tone and still Aireo didn’t understand, why in her dream they had been able to communicate with each other in English. Claudia approached Citlali and listened to her for a few moments, then started talking to her in Nahuatl. She asked Citlali how she gotten in the backyard and translated for the family. Claudia informed everyone that Citlali had teleported using magic; and she had time traveled from the time of the Aztec civilization. Hence she spoke Nahuatl.
Citlali told everyone she had been in her mothers room when she had discovered a beautiful ring of hers. It was a large black opal. She put the ring on and was twirling it around and thought of Aireo. Then suddenly disappeared and teleported to a place with a blanket of cold white stuff. Claudia listened then spoke up and said that they need to get her home soon before she’s discovered missing.
Claudia looked at Citlali’s ring and noticed it looked familiar, then asked Sadie to see hers. Not surprising to Claudia they were very similar except for the stones. Another surprising thing was that Citlali looked like Aireo with her olive skin and long wavy hair, but Citlali’s eyes were dark brown with speckles of gold in the irises. They were both similar in height and could easily be mistaken as sisters, or even be fraternal twins. It was very strange, to say the least.
By now, it was getting late and about seven thirty, Aireo’s father ordered food. Christopher was in his room playing his electric guitar, so they let him be for now. They got Mexican food, which was the closest food that Citlali might be used to in flavor. However they were wrong and when Citlali ate a taco she made a face for the sauce on it was foreign to her. It did not have salsa on it but a sour cream.
On seeing her expression Claudia gave her another with pico de gallo instead, which Citlali enjoyed three of. After they finished eating…Claudia asked Aireo to get the Starkey. As she went upstairs, Claudia asked Citlali more questions about where she lived exactly. All she knew about her so far was, she was an ancestor who had some how time travelled using magic with Aireo by pure accident.
Citlali told her she lived in the heart of Tenochtitlan and was training to become a high priestess in magic, like her mother and sister before her. She also told her that she had never been able to communicate threw dreams until recently and that the ring she wore was her mothers. She had been told, that her powers would only get stronger and that she had to be careful. Claudia realized that Aireo was similar and would face the same difficulties. For she had already seen it in front of her when she froze the water in midair.
Aireo walked in with the StarKey and placed it in the center of the table. Then Claudia asked her to read the words that had appeared on the box which were words in Nahuatl. Just as before the image of the Starkey came to life and this time opened up right away. Revealing a holograph image of Citlali's mother. The Starkey was amongst many things, a portal to any time in space for communication. It could not actually transport a person anywhere physically currently. Citlali's mother asked her if she was okay, and then said, there was no easy way to get her home at the moment. She would have to live in the modern world non-conspicuously for unfortunately a while, until magic returned her home. There had obviously been a reason it had chosen to bring her to the future. At this Citlali started to cry and the tears rolled down her face, spilling onto the table in small pools where they turned into three crystals. She stop crying, and looked at the crystals as did Claudia and Aireo.
"The crystals you made can be used to communicate with animals, you and Aireo can only use those in emergencies, until you both can Control your powers better." Citlali's mother said. "It is important to remember that your powers will get stronger and you have to practice controlling them." She added. At first all the crystals looked the same and were clear, but as the minutes pass by, they each changed into assortment of Rainbow of colors. The three crystals were not very big, and about the length of sticks of chewing gum. Then they each divided in half, the colors were now yellow, blue and red. Like a spectrum of a rainbow, each faded from light to dark. Claudia got two identical little jewelry bags for the girls out of a drawer and placed the crystals in each.
