Revive sat on an abandoned throne in an area dense with vegetation.
His hand rubbed the broken throne, feeling the history contained in the abandoned thoughts.
There had never been a Kandahar in this world but an area, even when an echo, contained power in and of itself.
No matter what it was called.
Above the throne, five large marble figures – three male and two females – held up the three globes that represented Earth.
Revive could tell the first globe was the earth that existed in The Material Universe – the world humans knew.
The second globe represented the Mystic World – the parts of Earth that had been severed to create a home for everything that wasn’t man.
It was done in a time when magic had died.
“But the third world…” The Speedster frowned, curling his fingers and sending a blast of lightning toward the third globe but the lightning simply dissolved in the air. “I don’t know what or where the third globe is… and that scares me.”
As a Multiverse Being who had seen glimpses of cause-and-effect, been to the darkest depths of hell, and faced the Great Darkness at the end of the universes, Revive was terrified of a possibility he didn’t know.
“So far, this is the only Earth to consist of three parts,” The Speedster muttered. “—and that third globe could be anything… a void, an abyss, a Netherworld, or—”
He didn’t dare finish the thought.
The sex with Ruby and Janna had dulled The Speedster’s mind enough that he bit the bullet and came to check on one of his primary concerns but all the trip had done was leave him with more concerns.
The Speedster sighed for the thousandth time.
And in a flicker of lightning, he was gone.
…
A couple of minutes later, Revive exited the world warped in time, appearing just a couple of miles away from Chloe’s loft.
He walked back.
The Speedster didn’t want to get to Chloe’s place and Nick was still there because he couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t murder the guy in a fight.
That would bring The Utopia down on him.
“I am not ready for that fight, yet…” The Speedster muttered.
The current version of Utopia may be the weakest from recent Multiverses but it remained a fact that Sheldon could literally toss anyone into space.
It was by the grace of mental illness that Sheldon – the most powerful being on Earth – had never fully taken advantage of his beyond-god-like powers.
“And equally fortunate the gods are blocked from this world by the third globe,” The Speedster noted.
Had Gods been in play, then Sheldon would have probably learned some things from them and Revive didn’t trust the man to have Superman-level dedication to helping humans.
“After all—” Revive walked and talked to himself. “Being your perception of good isn’t the same as being genuinely good.”
The walk felt both long and short.
When The Speedster arrived at the apartment, he wanted nothing more than to flicker up the stairs and into the apartment, settling on a couch where he could catch up on some much-needed sleep.
But fate had other plans.
…
Chloe was in a rush to get dressed.
She was trying to get to her next modeling gig but Nick was slowly dressing, trying to build up his courage to ask the daughter of Utopia a question.
“So, what do you think of Speed Ramp for my next name…”
“How about Time Warp?”
Nick kept going and Chloe had rolled her eyes more than once, clearly trying to show just how much she was interested in helping the one-nighter discover a superhero name.
“Why do you care about a stupid made-up name, why not just Nick?” Chloe’s voice was exhausted.
She had heard the question a thousand times – all of them were from clones of her dad.
And she tried to find men who were as unlike her father as physically possible.
“Well…” Nick took a deep breath, no longer concealing his true intentions. “Well, I need it for the application. I’m applying to the Union of Justice.”
Chloe froze, a sudden frost in her voice as realization dawned in her post-euphoric mind. “You’re what?” She questioned.
“I’m applying to the union,” Nick reported once more, scratching the back of his head. “Actually, I am reapplying.”
“Uh…”
“Look, I know it’s not your thing… and I don’t want you to think that… I – I am just trying to be honest here with you.”
Nick found a thousand excuses.
Then… as if to turn the situation into something Chloe couldn’t bear even more…
The door shut behind Revive as he entered the room and his eyes widened, then focused on Chloe.
There was a type of judgment in his eyes – something akin to the way her father looked at her.
Chloe didn’t know when it happened… but at some point, she genuinely cared what The Speedster thought of her.
And right now, she was leaving a bad impression by spending the night with a guy who only wanted to use her from the beginning… and worse, she had chosen that guy over her husband.
“You should get to the point and leave…” Revive voiced, knowing just how upset Chloe was getting by the second.
“No, no…” Chloe stopped The Speedster with a growl, then turned to Nick and made a gesture for him to continue. “Just ask me what you want to ask me.”
“I was hoping that you’d put in a word for me,” Nick released everything all at once.
The Speedster frowned at first until he realized that Nick was genuine – the guy wanted to be a hero… he really wanted to be a part of The Union.
“You should get out of here,” Revive advised. “If you want a place in The Union, you have to earn it… like all the others.”
“You don’t understand…” Nick growled. “I have tried to earn it… I have tried to—”
“How’s my dad?” Chloe suddenly asked, taking seductive steps forward. “Would you like it if I talked to my dad about it?”
Revive winced… knowing that just saying those words disgusted Chloe to no end.
The Speedster also stepped forward, ready to reverse a bit of time in case Chloe killed Nick.
Still, The Time Manipulator didn’t seem concerned – he even shot Revive a victory smile when Chloe started to walk toward him seductively.
“Doesn’t have to be someone that high up…”
Nick seemed to slowly perceive he was in danger but as if timing the exact moment to dilute such realizations, Chloe made a beautiful laugh.
It was a laugh Revive knew meant that she was at her wits end but to Nick, it probably seemed as beautiful as it was welcoming.
An illusion…
“Okay, here’s the thing. First thing my dad is gonna ask you… is—” She paused for dramatic effect, seemingly seriously pondering everything. “Can you take a punch?”
“Hell yeah!” Nick grinned from ear to ear.
Chloe’s smile grew more beautiful as if she was happy to help him and proud of being asked.
“I got hit by this truck once—”
The ground beneath The Amazon Princess’s feet cracked and her fist blurred forward.
The world slowed.
Revive had moved at the same time…
Chloe’s fist impacted Nick’s chest and the next instant, The Time Manipulator was inches deep into the wall, about to break through into the streets below.
But Revive couldn’t allow that to happen.
There was a couple unpacking groceries in the car below – he had seen them when rushing up the stairs… and chances were, they were still there.
The Speedster thought for a couple of seconds in a world devoid of time and mentally mapped the coordinates of the lake.
It was a mile or two away from Chloe’s apartment.
Revive leaned against the wall as Nick was digging through it and the moment the first sunlight peeked from outside – through the new hole in the wall – The Speedster pressed his hand against Nick’s chest and pushed.
The bulk of Chloe’s punch had dissipated with the wall collision but Revive had gifted Nick a bit more momentum – just enough for The Time Manipulator to shift course ever-so-slightly.
Nick soared into the skies.
…
The world returned to normal.
Chloe scoffed as Nick disappeared over a couple of buildings and a second later, water shot into the air a couple of miles away.
Then, she saw Revive leaning against the wall – a knowing smirk on his face.
“I didn’t need your help…” She complained, rushing to find the rest of her clothes.
“I had some fun last night too,” Revive admitted. “We’re both at fault here… me more. Since I should have known better than to let you go home with that leech.”
“Listen, I am late for work…” Chloe sighed in relief, finally finding her phone under an array of dirty laundry. “Can you just—”
Revive smiled.
Lightning flickered…
In Chloe’s perception, the world spun three times and then, she was standing outside of a warehouse.
She was held tightly in Revive’s arms.
…
“Sorry! Sorry!” Chloe rushed into the warehouse.
The crew was just about to take down the equipment when she appeared.
They, thankfully, stopped.
Revive entered the warehouse following Chloe and his eyes flickered with lightning as he examined the place.
It was a habit to examine every place he entered.
“Everything was fucked up this morning…” Chloe continued to make excuses. “And I brought a friend with me…”
The crew paused as they saw Revive.
He smiled. “Nice to meet all of you…” He proceeded to shake everyone’s hands.
“Jane…” The Corporate Manager introduced.
Chloe frowned. “Where is Alyssa?” She inquired, slipping a couple of small bottles of liquor from the table into her purse.
“She couldn’t make it…” Jane reported.
Revive felt a slight variation in the rhythm of the woman’s heart… the vibration traveled from her heart into his hands.
“You’re lying…” Chloe noticed as well.
“Isn’t telling the truth your mother’s thing?” Jane snidely commented.
“What can I say, I inherited a lot of benefits and curses.”
Chloe’s reply was equally sharp.
“The company thought it was best to let Alyssa go after—”
“Wait! Wait!” Chloe smiled – a smile of concealed craziness. “The company thought it was okay to fire my fucking personal assistant? The one I hired personally?”
Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.
“Personally… using the company’s money…” Jane retorted.
“Then call me!” Chloe growled. “Don’t fire my fucking people without calling me! I will pay her out of my goddamn pockets if I have to… then I just need to increase my fee by five percent!”
Jane tried to argue but Chloe was hearing none of it.
“Where’s my phone!” She yelled.
Revive sighed and stepped in, grabbing Chloe by the wrist. “You need to calm down,” He voiced.
“Revive, I am seriously not in a good mood right now!” Chloe warned. “Please don’t let me do to you what I did to Nick, this morning…”
“I already took one of your punches, remember?” Revive sighed lazily. “Besides, if I didn’t want you to hit – you wouldn’t have…”
Chloe retained some rationality – enough not to smack Revive into the ground.
The Speedster gestured to her concealed bracers and Chloe willed the weapons to appear on her wrists, and then, Revive tapped one of the bracers and withdrew a phone.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Chloe chirped, giving The Speedster a hug and two pecks on the cheek.
The camera snapped a couple of pictures, not that any of the heroes cared.
“I need to call Alyssa, can you?”
Revive thought for a bit and shrugged his shoulders. “Depends on where she is…” He replied.
A couple of seconds later, Chloe was on the phone with the only person she still considered a friend.
Then, she hung up.
“Lower-end of Chicago, Brownstone Apartment, number 1992…” Chloe reported. “Can you—”
The Speedster flickered with lightning and disappeared from the warehouse.
A minute passed.
Then, the warehouse sparked with lightning and Revive was back inside but this time, a woman was trembling in his arms.
…
It took another five minutes for Chloe to calm Alyssa to a state where the woman could work.
And several things were immediately corrected.
The liquor from the table was discarded…
The cocaine stash inside the dressing room was immediately reduced to ash by Revive…
And the male entertainment in the private lounge was immediately replaced.
Chloe wanted to protest but she couldn’t when her eyes met Revive’s.
Thankfully, the time was more than made up for with Chloe’s ability to see the clothing design and mimic it to perfection with the use of her Klyntar.
…
“Good… good, give me more!”
The compliments came…
“More to the left. More to the left. Just like that!”
Chloe dominated the warehouse.
Everyone was speechless with the work attitude shift.
“Get more into it… try floating just a little bit on the hood!”
The pictures were a dozen a second.
…
Meanwhile…
“You’re good at your job,” Revive commented.
“I have been with Chloe for years now, so…” Alyssa shrugged, taking notes on the number of pictures that had to be deleted immediately after the shoot. “If I couldn’t do my job this well, I would have been fired much earlier.”
“Well, Chloe treasures you.”
“And you treasure her?” Alyssa raised a brow, finally taking a good look at Revive. “You’re the first guy she has brought to a photo shoot.”
Revive chuckled. “Do you say that to all of them?”
Alyssa smiled sheepishly. “Pretty much,” She admitted, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly now that she had been caught. “All the guys she dates are vain in one way or another… I compliment them and they leave mostly on good terms.”
Silence followed…
“You’re the husband?”
“Something like that…” Revive voiced. “It’s a bit more complicated but I guess you can think of Chloe and I as an arranged marriage. We’re not exactly together yet but we will be.”
“Well, your appearance has boosted her portfolio by fifty percent,” Alyssa reported, sorting through the notes in her folder. “We have never had any luck breaking into the mundane market until you showed up… now, Chloe’s fanbase has increased beyond celebrity, supers, and teenager jerkoffs…”
“And here…”
Revive glanced down at the paper he had been handed… and he was honestly a little stunned.
“Wha—”
“We can’t have you sharing things about Chloe when this ends, right? Alyssa’s eyes held sympathy. “and trust me, it will end. I just need to make sure my client is protected.”
Revive channeled a bit of lightning into the paper, disintegrating it. “Trust me,” His eyes narrowed on Alyssa. “An NDA wouldn’t work on me… even The Utopian, himself, can’t get me to respect your government… heck, I don’t even respect Gods…”
Alyssa didn’t bother to ask again… and Revive was impressed that the woman didn’t flinch when his lightning tore through the paper she had given him.
‘Is it confidence or is she just not afraid?’ He thought.
The shoot continued smoothly.
Alysa kept everything in check and now and again, Chloe would unconsciously flash a smile in Revive’s direction.
Then…
“Get in here!” Chloe insisted, floating to Revive’s side to pull him along.
“Chloe, we can’t—”
“Please…” Chloe gave her best puppy-dog eyes.
Alyssa was forced to relent when she saw Chloe had made up her mind.
Thankfully, the shoot wasn’t far from complete.
The photographers eagerly added Revive to the mix – his unique style and look added a unique layer to all the new images.
It did help that both Revive and Chloe could adjust their clothing on the fly.
…
Then, the shoot was supposed to be finished.
But…
“Well, that’s a wrap… thank you, everyone…” Chloe took a bow.
“Wait, corporate wants a hero shot!” Jane voiced.
Chloe’s and Revive’s fingers interlinked but before they could depart, Jane made a final request.
“Hero shot?” The Amazon Princess questioned, turning around to be met with a photo of her mother nearly sixty years prior.
“Corporate wants it… plays into the nostalgia of everything,” Jane insisted.
“That wasn’t part of the dea—” Alyssa was quick to catch onto what was happening but she was a bit too late.
“I am not fucking doing THAT!” Chloe insisted.
“You should just hurry up and do what Corporate tells you to!” Jane was smug. “They clean up all your messes anyway. Remember that guy’s head you almost crushed from kissing him too hard? Just do what corporate wants and they will continue to take care of you.”
Chloe was stunned.
Jane threw an assessing glance at Revive, hoping to see that he’d back off from his and Chloe’s interlocked fingers when he heard a bit of her history.
The Corporate Manager was a bit jealous but mostly, it was because it was the corporate office would have to pay more for Chloe now that she was in a more stable relationship, and hence, more desirable to the populous.
“You want the hero shot?”
“Chloe…” Revive’s and Alyssa’s voices were on edge.
“Get ready for the fucking shot of a lifetime!” Chloe smiled wide, and her usual fidgeting returned.
Jane smiled widely.
Chloe stretched for a bit, sunk into her position behind the car, and gave a signal for the cameras to start flicking.
The camera flashed…
“You should move a bit further back, Jay…”
The photographer did as he was told, taking the pictures from a further distance.
The Amazon Princess raised the car above her head with ease and Revive couldn’t help but wince – he had underestimated Chloe’s strength.
The Utopian – Revive understood the depths of the hero’s strength clearly enough…
It had the potential to be Superman’s level.
But if Brandon and Chloe had the same potential in this universe, The Speedster wasn’t sure if he should slaughter the family or help them achieve greater heights.
Then… unexpectedly.
Though simultaneously not so unexpectedly…
The wind whipped as Chloe threw the car above the heads of the corporate stooges.
Everyone ducked.
Alyssa wasn’t even in the path of the car but she ducked quicker than anybody else, almost as if she was expecting Chloe to go off one way or another.
The world slowed…
Lightning danced…
Revive didn’t channel as much Speed Force as he did before… he was slowly readjusting his speed output.
This time, even in the slowness of The Speed Force’s confines, Chloe’s eyes could follow The Speedster… albeit barely.
The Speedster – for the first time since arriving in the new universe – dashed forward while utilizing The Speed Force, causing the Cosmic Force to cycle through his body.
This time, the lightning that accompanied his runs intensified significantly, causing sparks wherever it stuck.
The concrete…
The beams in the warehouse…
The cameras…
Everywhere…
Revive reached the beam at the exact moment the thrown car was about to collide with it, and with utmost precision, he slid his hand between the car and the beam.
Had time resumed, his hand would have been ground into blood meat.
But when the laws of physics were bent by the will of The Speed Force, Revive managed to force the car away from the beam though not with the ease that Chloe demonstrated.
Moving large things at Superspeed required a combination of precision to pinpoint where force is best applied to interfere with the motion of the object’s entire body, and the will to make and keep such changes.
The Speedster ran up the beam, flipped in the air, and landed in the car.
The movement was smooth… no mistakes were made.
Revive slipped into the driver’s seat, sent a pulse of lightning through the steering wheel and into the engine, rousing the car awake, and then, he removed the car from time by channeling The Speed Force inside it.
The car rumbled to life.
It shifted away from the beam and crashed to the ground, only managing to avoid a collision with the northeast wall because Revive pressed the gas and shifted the gears.
The wheels of the car screeched.
The world returned to normal.
Everyone’s eyes followed the low rumblings of an engine, surprised to find The Speedster driving the car through the warehouse, circling back around.
And as the car came closer, something amazing was happening.
The Speedster closed his eyes, held onto an image in his mind, and connected to the mere possibility of the car’s shift in color, and as he sent vibrations throughout the car structure, the paint on the car became flakes that were quickly replaced by red, blue, gold and white stars.
WOOOAAAHHH
Even Chloe’s eyes were wide.
A small smile made its way onto the corner of her lips as she met eyes with Revive.
The Speedster returned a smile – a loving smile that, for the first name, Chloe didn’t shy away from.
“Maybe we should continue…” Chloe murmured.
Revive parked the car just short of Chloe.
He hopped out of the vehicle and turned to regard Jane and the others who were still very spooked.
“You wanted to do a couple of hero shots?” The Speedster pivoted on his heel, smiling with a fervor he hadn’t in a couple of universes. “Well, let’s tell a story to all the young girls out there… Chloe will do the hero shots if you tell a story with it…”
Everyone was captured by Revive’s smile.
He was pulling them with something they had only ever felt from watching Utopia on television – a blend of Hope and Inspiration.
“What’s the story?” Jane questioned.
“Well, the story is—” Revive gestured to Chloe.
Immediately, The Amazon Princess felt as if the rage that had been bubbling deep beneath the surface was nothing but a puff of smoke.
Chloe spun and shifted her Klyntar into a suit that came from the depths of her soul – an Amazon’s garb… the suit of Wonder Woman.
It was obviously the suit to which the car’s theme had been shifted.
“I guess the story is about The Amazons…” Chloe voiced, feeling an ache in her chest whenever she said the name. “A race of Warrior women…”
“I haven’t heard of this before…” Alyssa voiced.
“It’s a new story,” Revive shrugged and stepped away from the cameras. “The point is, there may be more women out there like Chloe. And if they read the article that comes with the photo, they will know themselves and come forward.”
“And that’s all the reason I need,” Chloe shrugged her shoulders, finally understanding the bigger picture.
Revive wanted to attract others like herself – others who may not know who they are but may be suffering at the hands of men anyway.
“Then—” The Lead Photographer decided. “We continue… we sell cars and we tell stories…”
Jane rushed to make the necessary calls, already processing the orders to shift the colors of some of the cars.
Chloe posed…
The flashes continued…
Revive and Alyssa settled into a more fruitful conversation that became much more fruitful when The Speedster revealed his account information and how Chloe had access to all the funds inside.
Ω
Revive sat between Alyssa and Chloe.
“This is fancier than any place I have ever eaten in,” Chloe mentioned.
Their seats were in the wine cellar.
Revive had arranged everything and after the shoot, by the time they arrived at the restaurant, everything had been prepared for them.
“This cellar has a bit of a unique history,” Revive replied.
“Really…” Alyssa spoke with her mouth partially stuffed with the appetizers. “—what is the history? Damn, I didn’t even know this place existed.”
“You’d probably recognize the place though it's kind of a layer’s thing…”
“Layers, how?”
“You know billionaires have their own special room everywhere worth its salt?”
“Yeah…”
“Well, think of us as seeing the world from the eyes of a billionaire,” Revive explained. “Your dad could see the world this way but he doesn’t care for it much.”
“Why didn’t they charge us for the room then?” Chloe inquired.
“Because you’re still trending…” Alyssa reminded her client. “I mean, you are the most talked about person on TV or in the media. Celebrities have been ringing my phone for hours.”
“Not interested,” Chloe frowned.
At first, she had been interested in the life of a celebrity but she quickly realized celebrities were crazier than her friends – and her friends fought supervillains for a living.
“Crazy celebrities, huh?” Revive guessed.
“Genuinely insane people…” Chloe chuckled.
“It’s because of heroes…” Revive explained, using his hands to enhance his explanations. “The entire culture on this planet has been subverted in some way. Hip-hop never developed the way it should have, racism was suppressed so most people still sympathize with Nazis, and you have a her like Utopia who never inspire anyone as Sheldon…”
“Inspire anyone as Sheldon?” Chloe murmured.
“You’re a greater hero than your dad… technically speaking,” Revive revealed.
“By what fucking scale?” Chloe chuckled.
“A hero is measured by how many people they save without their powers,” Revive gestured to Alyssa. “She has saved a lot of people just by being a good person… without a suit,” then he gestured to Chloe. “You have changed many lives, not always for the better. But you have saved more people without your powers… that makes you a hero.”
There was a weight behind Revive’s voice that stifled any potential laughs that were building inside Chloe.
Then, a waiter entered the cellar with a plate in his hand and two more dishes floating and rotating behind him.
“Your meal, madam…” He provided Chloe with her meal first, demoting her status as a celebrity.
Or at the very least, the most impressive person around the table.
“Seared Scallops and baby spinach with spiced pomegranate glaze, short ribs with black barley and mushrooms, and a double-smoked salmon with horseradish cream…”
The waiter departed after setting three meals in front of Chloe.
The Amazon Princess was stunned.
Alyssa was also stunned – she expected everyone to get a dish but the three dishes were meant for Chloe alone.
“Is this one of those weird restaurants where we can fulfillment from watching other people enjoy their food?” Alyssa couldn’t help but ask and then continued. “I mean… I love seeing people enjoy themselves but I don’t have this particular fetish…”
Revive chuckled. “Nope… Chloe and I eat a lot so we will get more servings than you do…” He explained.
“Wait, I can eat… trust me, I can eat. Chloe, tell him…” Alyssa insisted.
“She can manage a glass of wine, dessert – which she already ate – and a meal with a lot of meat…” Chloe stated. “Any more and she will waste the food.”
Alyssa wanted to feel saddened by Chloe’s betrayal but she was much more gratified by the fact that The Amazon Princess paid attention to her enough to know these things.
“You noticed?”
“I always notice…” Chloe smiled faintly, shifting her head a bit to the right on instinct – she didn’t like it when people saw her smile. “I am just always an asshole about it… strangely, I don’t feel that defensive these days.”
“It’s the bracers…” Revive commented.
Luckily, the water appeared with three more dishes.
This time, they were for Revive.
“Lemony Mussels with cherry tomatoes and potatoes, Beef Stakes Wellington, and baby beet and flank steak salad Dijon…”
The process repeated one more time.
Chloe and Revive didn’t start to eat on Alyssa also got her meal.
The meal was as amazing as it appeared.
And Revive knew it would be even more amazing if they could taste all of it but the free food was more than worth the price of offering half their taste buds.
…
Between the small talk, the constant nibbling, and the beautifully served wine that Chloe and Alyssa had never heard of before, the meal ended quickly.
They departed the restaurant in higher spirits than ever before.
-----------
“What next?” Chloe questioned, enjoying the walk through the park.
“Home?” Revive shrugged.
“Yeah, I have some work to get done…” Alyssa voiced. “Time for you guys to get some privacy…”
“You should stay with me tonight,” Chloe responded, embracing the only friend she had. “And I doubt the night is going to end so early…”
“Yeah, besides—” Revive felt the moment solidifying in time, and that usually meant a path out of all the possible paths was being observed. “Something tells me you’re supposed to be here…”
Alyssa was touched by their sentiments and it wasn’t like she truly wanted to leave – who wouldn’t want to hang out with heroes?
“Fine…” She acquiesced.
“You should show her the thing…” Chloe turned to Revive.
The Speedster smirked and suddenly, lightning arched all through the air, and Chloe, Revive, and Alyssa had entered a world indifferent to time.
A world of true speed.
…
They chuckled, giggled, and laughed in bursts of mania as they stumbled into Chloe’s apartment.
The wall was a mess thanks to Nick’s untimely exit, and like always, Chloe’s messy lifestyle added a layer of unrecognition to the once beautiful apartment.
“And –and – and…” Alyssa giggled uncontrollably. “—he grabbed my ass after I put the dildo in my pants… and – let’s just say he never molested another girl on that train.”
Chloe and Revive burst into more laughter.
Over the past couple of hours in Speed Time, they had come to learn that Alyssa’s life was as interesting as they come.
“I’ll need to go to the head,” Revive declared, branching off with a flicker of lightning.
Of course, he didn’t need to go to the bathroom – there was other business to take care of.
‘Like the fact that someone had been in the apartment…’ The Speedster thought.
He returned to normal time in Chloe’s room and began a careful inspection.
…
Once Revive was gone in a flicker, Chloe and Alyssa cuddled on the chair.
They were used to being alone.
“Revive is using your room,” Chloe voiced. “He didn’t have anywhere else to stay.”
“It’s fine,” Alyssa shifted her body to embrace Chloe better. “I want to know what convinced you to let him stay more than a single night.”
There was silence…
Chloe shifted and shifted, trying to find the familiar comfortable spot on the couch but she couldn’t find it.
“What’s wrong?”
“There is something…” The Amazon Princess reached between the couch cushions and found. “—it’s a pouch of some kind.”
“Let me see…”
Soon, the duo were examining the pouch of blue crystal.
It took Chloe all but three minutes to figure out the best way to check what was in the pouch was to put it down her nose.
Alyssa tried to stop The Amazon Princess but there was no stopping Chloe once she decided to do something.
The first line forced Chloe onto her ass.
By the second line, The Amazon Princess already knew what she had.
“This is—this is—” Chloe stuttered, sighed, and tilted her head to the ceiling. “This is fucking amazing.”
“We should get Revive—” Alyssa offered. “Maybe the pouch is for him.”
Alas, it was too late.
Chloe’s phone was already out, messaging a particular group chat that not only held her wildest acquaintances but also Janna and all the other hero kids.
And the kids of heroes who could fly anywhere at a moment’s notice didn’t take long to arrive.
