Ch. 6 ~Gatekeeper~

Markus only knew fractures of his potential within his DNA, beyond astral planes, he had a hand in this construct... Markus simply called it the Voidspace between here and there. Though a fractured mirrored dimension in which he opened the gate to and walked through. When physical contact is made, it somehow opens a lens into view that forms a rip in space-time to a completely new dimension. That was vaguely similar to his own.

This gave Markus the nickname 'Gatekeeper'. Markus only acted naturally as though another person looking to make a living and warning those who dare, with caution. People change when faced with the ultimate cut-off to this place, they call reality. Yet unknown to them that DNA played a strong role in this gate cut-off. Within the words are power and so will be mimicked through all who dare to cross the threshold, though Voidspace and into the mirrored dimension.

Death Hunter Corp. were heading to the location where they received a report for a job to start. They were the only line of defense for this extremely gifted child. Each member of the team were experts in their fields of study. Ready to take on whatever may come to harm this young girl. She had been recently experimented on, but the Corp. had reached her in time, but the damage was extensive. It was Death Hunter Corp.'s mission to get her out of there with haste. She was finally free and the Corp. could not afford to let her fall into these evil things hands. Death Hunter Corp. members: Markus, Dion, Simon. and Serenity; they all knew they were in the worst fight of their careers. The Corp. headed down a street not far from where they had saved the girl from a life of a lab rat.

There was resistance to the advance of the Death Hunter Corp.'s extraction and they could not let this one slip out of their hands. The mission was to protect her at all costs and get her safely out of harm's way. The Corp. rested momentarily in an alley trying to get their bearings while being pursued by something unnatural. The Corp. needed time to ensure their victory. They waited too long and they could hear their aggressors closing in on them. The Corp. was well equipped for this type of situation. That was not their only piece of protection, they were a mobile unit of five. All members of the Corp. seemed to excel in one field or another but all had experience with this kind of mission. The enemy was not expecting this many hybrids to be in one place at all.

The pursuers had pinned the Corp. down but the environment was in their favor. It was near dusk and the five of them took up positions and readied themselves for contact with the enemy. Two of the members stayed out in a fanning movement. One found a nest in a high tower that used to store water, near an industrial park. The other was near the building that made the ally. While the last acted as bait to grab the pursuers attention. The Corp. were well placed and needed to make headway. The pursuers were of a vicious kind and had extreme speed at which they traveled on foot. There were at least eight pursuers and all were under direct order to capture the subject. She was an innocent girl who had a bright future ahead and she deserved more than a laboratory test subject. The Corp. had been equipped with silver and sodium as these chemicals had adverse effects on their enemies and the one next to the girl was a professional exorcist. The Corp. covered all possible avenues to ensure the success of this operation.

The sniper had picked off one of the pursuers and possibly injured another, but they were now in visual range of the bait trap. He is the Corp.'s best shooter and began to realize they were supernatural in nature as the one who was injured began to morph and regenerate his injury. The Corp. 's switched to their Holy weapons which consisted of a revolver, a sword, a spell book, and an exorcist's silver crucifix, the size of a dagger. The fifth member was a hybrid that specialized in hybrid bounties, killing any kind of creature with great amounts of force and power. The hybrid was the only one that could be used for bait because of his reputation and actions. There were still seven attackers, each determined to take a target and eliminate them. The last target was still regenerating his shoulder from a high caliber round of silver that would normally blow a hole in someone which it did yet their enemy was not human.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

The sniper was still in position as the enemy began to surround the bait. He sniped one from behind blowing its head clean off with his well placed shot. The swordsman moved in for close combat, lunging through a window as soon as the shot was fired, he quickly sprinted to the closest target. Its body was slit in half as the sword slipped through him like a hot knife through butter. The remains began to fizzle apart as the reaction made the body rapidly decompose. It was a terror demon that was a fast burning flame and fizzled out of existence and was banished from the realm. Two down, the Corp. had now balanced the odds and were five-on-five with a handicap.

The Death Hunter Corp. had their sights locked on these hybrid-nightbreeds. Their thirst for blood began to heighten, as they saw their comrades shot down. Dusk was over, the moon was near full, giving the nightbreed their hybrid title. They began to howl and growl as their bodies mutated into their truest forms. Two of the nightbreed were direct descendants to the Primes, The Vampire Lords. Having a horrific flesh-like monstrous transformation, pumped full of demonic energies.

Two others came from the Werebeasts' houses, that only thirst for blood. They were from the Wild Dogs House, a gathering den for the werehyena's being of a pack mentality they only thirst and hunger. The werehyenas are known as advantageous scavengers, a perfect match for the forces of the Shadowalkers. The fifth nightbreed was from a fringe group that only thought of fight or flight, and with their stubborn attitudes, this apex werebadger never knew when to give up.

They gave out their warcry and the hyenas circled the exorcist and the little girl. The girl was frightened to the point where she screamed so loud that her hybrid ability manifested, amplifying the scream into a shriek that released immense pressure. Her voice shattered all windows on the street, blew out lamp-posts and made nearby power shortages. The exorcist then realized what hybrid-like ability that she manifested... Wraith abilities... Only a few dark mages dabble in the realm of souls, this girl was a descendant of Casters.

The reverb from this little caster girl emanated out from her so violently that the air itself seemed to fracture with wind and light. The Werehyena were no match for such an attack, with their ears already well over a hundred times more sensitive than normal human hearing. Blood began to dribble from their ears, their minds seemed to be shocked to the point of unconsciousness. They began to slump over one-by-one... more blood starting to drip from the other orifices in their faces. It was truly a gruesome way to die. Luckily the exorcist predicted her reaction in time, enabling him to activate an isolation blessing as the shriek grew stronger, he turned only to see their attackers in bloody piles of meat.

Markus' allies were just outside of the danger zone of the little caster's power, yet they still suffered ringing in their ears for several moments after as everyone regrouped. Dion, Simon, Serenity and Vance were just opposite of Markus when the little caster finally collapsed from exhaustion from the release of her Wraith ability. "We need to keep moving!," Markus urged toward Simon and Vance, "You two help her to our escape route." "No need to tell me what to do!" Simon sneered in response, "I can see the wee lass needs a hand!" Vance shrugged and helped Simon prop her between them. "The Rendezvous point is just here," Serenity spoke up taking the lead, "Get her in the back of the van! we have to keep her energy levels stable!'' With that order, Markus and Dion jumped into the front of the van as Serenity jumped in after the others and closed the back doors to the escape vehicle. That was too close; they would all breathe a sigh of relief as they headed back to HQ.
