Hidden Truth

After a few years, at the age of 5, both of them entered the house as a bloody mess, injured but silent. May slowly crept up to the cupboard and took Dad's most expensive wine.

'Are you mad?' Lumos asked her in a rough but hushed voice.

She remained quiet, slowly opening the cap and locking eyes with Lumos. 'It's going to hurt.' She held the bottle in her right hand and covered her brother's mouth with her left, then poured the liquor over his injured knee.

'Ahhh,' Lumos cried out, but as he tried to speak, May placed the bottle's tip in her brother's mouth, forcing him to drink the liquor. Lumos had no choice, the liquor was forced down his throat without his consent. Grabbing her brother, May took him to their room and placed a white sheet over his body. May intentionally used a white sheet because she knew the blood would stain the outside and reveal that someone was injured.

After Lumos fell asleep, she took her chance and pretended to sleep. Little did she know, she slept like a girl her age.

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! Someone pounded on the door with relentless force, and Mary rushed to open it. To her shock, there were many people standing at her door.

'Please, come in,' she politely invited all the guests.

'What's polite in this situation?' Asme, a middle-aged woman with a rude tone, argued with her husband. She was infamous for being protective of her sons and always argued with anyone who pointed out their mischief. Her husband apologized for her behavior, and they all went into the living room. William, standing at the end of the crowd, hurried through the mob.

'Did we throw a party?' he inquired sarcastically about the situation.

An angry look that he hadn't seen in ages appeared on Mary's face. She remained quiet, guided the guests to the living room, and quickly peaked on their children.

After some awkward silence a boy with a rude tone spoke 'lumos hit me mommy' holding the hand of Asme without a hesitation.

Mary spoke looking at the Asme's husband 'Charl how did it happen my My children were at home sleeping , and they never fought before, ' she knew if she gave Asme the chance she would agitate the crowd anger towards them and it would be a bad situation

'Ethan and Noah, can you tell us what happened?' Charl, bringing his children forward, asked them to explain.

'Th-th-that boy pun-punched me, and then I slept,' Noah foolishly stuttered , looking to his brother.

'I saw it, and after that, I don't remember what happened, but there was a dar-dark creature,' Ethan said, leaving everyone speechless. Even the weakest of them knew that dark slime could swallow a child whole.

'Let me check on the kids,' and Mary rushed to her children's room, turned on the lamp, and yelled at the top of her lungs, 'William!'

William and everyone rushed to the room, and there was blood on Lumos's white sheet. William slowly held his child, removing the sheet.

During this, May tried to wake up and acted shocked when she saw the blood. She shouted, 'It must be Aunt Asme's kids; they tried to hurt him.'

Lumos slowly opened his eyes and suppressed a laugh because he was the only one who knew how the incident had unfolded earlier, but his memory was fuzzy.

'It is aching badly,' Lumos pointed to his head, and when he tried to look up at Mary, he suddenly collapsed and went unconscious and was rushed to a nearby clinic.

Seeing this, Mary's eyes welled with tears. Tears began to flow, and seeing her mom cry, May began to cry for real. Understanding the situation, William requested that everyone leave them for a moment and that they discuss the matter after Lumos was back to health. Everyone agreed, except for Asme, who still wore a cold expression and showed no sympathy for the children.

Mary stayed overnight at the clinic to look after her son while he slept. William carried May back home. May thought her brother was a born actor and slightly smiled.

After they returned home, William was serious and confronted May. 'Tell the truth, May. I could smell my wine on Lumos and saw the grin on your face when we returned.'

'Dad,' she stuttered, 'it was...'"
