The Seven Deadly Sins
The passion of the heart

The passion of the heart

I examined the weeping faces of one family as the wails of others filled the air. The sky was still fresh with the smell of burnt corpses that laid outside the city. A skirmish from the enemy had cost this city the lives of soldiers, and civilians.  I clenched my white robe as I closed my eyes. While holding back the tears, I heard whispers from other survivors.

"He is a sin, is he here to kill us?" That word caused me to shoot my eyes wide open. My hands shook as I stared at those that believed I had murderous intent. The superstition that the Church spread always irked me. Before I could say anything I began to cough as my throat was so dry that it felt like sand was poured into my mouth.

“By the gods, I need a drink.” I turned to walk over to the tavern to have a drink. The tavern was nearly empty except from barmaids, the bartender, and two other customers at the bar. It was still kept up with cleaned wooden floors, and tables. When I walked up to the young bartender, he froze up.” Fix me up a beer, I have been walking for too long. By the gods, I swear I have blisters.” I kicked off my boots and sat on one of the stools.

“Demon, you are one of the seven demons, the spider sin of lust.”

“Do tell bartender, how did you know? Surely it wasn’t my spider symbol on my white robe with purple web designs." I put my hand out while observing my purple nails.

The bartender didn't respond as I could see him sweating.

"Why are you afraid handsome?  Aiden can make you feel all better." The bartender quickly blushed as his iris turned blue.

"I am not, I will get you the best beer." He rushed so fast to fix the beer that I thought he would trip.

"What did you do to him!" My eye caught one of the other patrons get up from his seat.

"I did nothing, it is not my fault that the men love me. Well, women love me but  I do my best to give love to everyone."

The man went and punched me on the cheek with a solid right hand. A flash of pain rushed through my face as I placed my hand on the affected cheek. I smirked as I now had an excuse." And this is what I get for being nice to you people." Threads of web wrapped around my hand and glowed blue as I gave a strong right hook to my opponent. The sounds of bone-breaking were followed by screaming as the man fell to the ground holding his jaw.

Though he tried to speak, his words were unintelligible. Before I could move in to crush his skull, the bartender ran forth and placed the man in the headlock." He didn't hurt you right." The bartender had murderous intent as if he was about to snap the man's neck.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

"No just send him out and sit by me." The bartender did what I suggested which irked me.

Why does this always have to happen? I use my power once and people who fear me or hate me because obsessed with me. I thought as the blonde hair youthful bartender sat by me and rested his head against my shoulder.

"Um, where is my beer?" I asked him as my throat was parched.

The barmaids were in shock and fear at my display of magic.

The bartender noticed his mistake and went to grab my beer. When he set it down, I grabbed the handle and began to drink down the bitter liquid. It burned my throat and was cold as if it was placed under a cold spell.

I slammed the mug down as I let out a loud burp.

"Ladies I will get out of your hair but since I am feeling generous today, I will give you this." I reached in my robe and took out a large bag of coins that required effort to lift.

"1000 gold pieces for your tip," the surprise on their faces, and the bartender made me chuckle.

I put on my boots, and walked towards the door." Don't get too comfortable, I won't be leaving just yet." I said as I left the tavern and headed to the church.

When I opened the door, my stomach dropped at what I saw. Men and women and children were screaming one word.

"Food food, give me food," even though all of my battles with the sin of gluttony, her effect on the region was monstrous. Many of the affected were trapped in magical wards. Their eyes were overcome with the color orange as they beat on the shield's engulfing them.

"What are you doing here Sin of lust, know that our magnificent God dwells in his temple." My face went red as I turned from the suffering people to the priest who was overweight and would die quickly if a necromancer raised the dead.

"Which god are you talking about? I do know that no god exists in this house. Please call me Aiden, the spider sin of lust gives me such a bad reputation." I rested my hand on the shield that vibrated on each blow.

"How dare you blaspheme the house of the," his words were cut short as threads of web of exited from my finger and wrapped around his throat like a rope. His face began to turn red as he crawled at his neck.

"Do not speak to me of blasphemy when people are suffering. Don't dare speak of the gods when you are fat with sin. I should kill you where you stand, perhaps it will save people the trouble."

"Sir please spare his life, he doesn't mean offense." A robed woman said with blonde hair that has been cut way above the shoulder.

"I do not care what he meant." I glanced around and saw frightened faces of children, men, and women. I sighed as I released the man.

"Don't thank the gods, thank me that I have shown grace to you fat man."

Armed guards came out of the undercroth at the call of the fat man. These have the symbol of a Spherical design that had stars on the outer parts of the symbol.

"Kill that abomination," the fat man shouted out.

"Delay that order, spider sin we need your help." A man full armored in steel plate stepped from the collection of soldiers said in a calm tone.

"The knights of Idonia need my help. Well, I can accept for a drink and a reasonable sum of gold. What do you need help with?"

"As you know a portal to hell has opened and demons are pouring out. I was hoping if you could journey in and close it. Do so and you will be paid handsomely."

"I shall do this quest for a reasonable sum and a favor." I reached in my robe and out came a curved sword draped in web and strange runes.

"Thank you, sir, but I have one request. If you could find my daughter, please bring her back or tell me of her fate. She was in the first squad to go into that portal but never returned.

"Your daughter is likely food for demons but I have been surprised before. You have my word that I will find your daughter.” I turned away from the knights and gestured for the leader to follow me.

“Show me to this tear in reality.”
