Upon awakening at dawn the next day, Lawrence behaved as though all of this were commonplace for him. A young maid named Loren treated him with special warmth and tenderness. She bathed him in a large brass tub filled with warm water that sparkled in the rays of the morning sun filtering through tall windows. Loren fed him porridge slowly cooked over a low flame, and each of her movements was filled with care as if Lawrence were her son.
Suddenly, a voice from behind the door called out:
- "Loren! Come here! Urgently!"
Lawrence, lifting his head and looking at the maid, made a sound:
- "Aaa-aaa-aaa."
Loren smiled back:
- "Yes, Lawrence, our names are similar! Just wait a minute, I'll be right back."
With a sweet smile, she ran down the wide wooden staircase.
At that moment, Lawrence realized that despite all the wisdom of his previous world, he was unable to speak. Deciding to start a comprehensive exploration of this new world, he began to look around.
The nursery where he was seemed immense. The high ceilings and broad walls made of quality wood emitted a scent of freshness. A fur rug on the floor added coziness, and the windows offered a picturesque view of the village and surrounding hills.
- "So, I must learn about the entire house as quickly as possible, and then take steps to study the language and literature of this world. I need to pull myself together,"
Lawrence thought.
Exploring the new world was incredibly interesting.
Before Lawrence could take any action, Loren appeared:
- "Lawrence, please forgive me for the delay. There's a lot of work downstairs for my mom and her assistant."
With curious eyes, Lawrence looked at Loren.
- "Loren talks to me as if I understand... well. I do... but Loren, I'm still an infant!"
Thought Lawrence.
Unaware of his internal reflections, Loren continued to tell him about the incidents in the house.
Days, weeks, and months passed, and the day came when Lawrence turned exactly one year old.
Every moment Loren left Lawrence alone, he tried to carefully study everything around him. His eyes eagerly absorbed details of the interior and memorized the arrangement, shape, and quality of objects, which might help him in the future. Lawrence intuitively understood that every item, every book on the shelves could tell him more about the world of Eldoria.
- "How unusual it is to see the world through the eyes of a child. Although I'm almost one year old, I still can't move or talk independently. But the plus side is that I can look at everything, touch and feel different things, and no one will scold me for it."
As Lawrence delved deeper into his surroundings, his interest in the outside world began to grow. Victor and Eris noticed this and decided it was time to show him more of the world beyond the walls of their estate. An ideal opportunity for this was the preparation for the upcoming celebration of Lawrence's birthday, so one morning they took him to the market.
- "Mr. Victor!"
Someone shouted from a distance.
- "Mr. Victor! I have a message for you!"
Continued the same stranger.
- "Hello, Dan. Do you have a message for me?"
Asked Victor.
- "Yes, Mr. Victor. Reports directly from the neighboring village! Here, take it!"
- "Eris, I apologize, go ahead, I'll catch up,"
Said Victor to his wife.
- "Windsom, walk with my wife and child, help them with their purchases,"
Victor told the butler.
Victor anxiously opened the letter and carefully read the contents. As he delved into the text, Victor's face changed from grim to downright angry. Quickly rolling the letter in his hand, Victor rushed towards the estate.
Meanwhile:
- "Mama, what is that?"
Lawrence asked slowly, indistinctly, and unclearly.
- "My dear, that's the market.
A place where you can buy everything you need," replied Eris.
- "And what is that over there?"
Lawrence asked again.
- "That's where your father works, baby,"
Eris answered lovingly and tenderly.
- "Madam, I apologize, but we have arrived at the store you mentioned,"
Said Windsom.
- "Oh yes, exactly! Sorry, Windsom, I got completely carried away talking to my son,"
Replied Eris.
Windsom merely bowed and slightly opened the draped fabric in front of the store entrance.
Stolen novel; please report.
Lawrence, looking at all the goods displayed in the showcases, was amazed by many things, from incredibly beautiful decorations to magnificent weapons.
Eris approached Windsom and asked him to hold Lawrence while she briefly stepped away.
- "Windsom, please look after Lawrence for a moment, I need to go pick out a birthday gift for him,"
Whispered Eris.
- "Of course, my lady,"
Replied Windsom. Holding Lawrence in his arms, he leisurely began to tell Lawrence about the various goods in the store.
Lawrence, looking around, noticed very beautiful patterned carpets hanging along the wall. Also, different hanging chandeliers were not alike. The entire interior of this store was full of various incredible goods.
Half an hour later, Eris returned with a medium-sized box in her hands. She said something to Windsom, and everyone headed home.
Returning by the same road they came, they observed the incredible beauty of the evening. The sky shifted between soft blue and bright orange hues. Birds flew back and forth, and the bright light of the sunset gently lay on the ground as the Hans family approached their home. Entering the threshold, Lawrence reached toward the setting sun, trying to say he wanted to stay longer and watch this beauty.
Lawrence was full of wonder and curiosity. Every moment of this day was a discovery for him. The incredible colors of the sunset he observed made his heart beat faster. He felt the world of Eldoria beckoning him with its mysteries and beauty.
As soon as the Hans family entered the house, Eris carefully placed Lawrence in his crib. She gently kissed his forehead and whispered:
- "Sweet dreams, my little explorer. Tomorrow is another day full of adventures."
Afterward, Eris extinguished the candles and closed the door behind her as she left the room.
Eris headed to Victor's study. Before entering, she knocked on the door. From the other side, a voice said:
- "Come in."
Victor, having returned home earlier, sat in his study, once again examining the documents he had received earlier. Anxiety was evident on his face. The scroll he received contained news of unforeseen events in the neighboring village, which could threaten their peace.
- "Dear, what are you so worried about?"
Asked Eris.
Taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly, Victor replied:
- "A strange phenomenon has been discovered in the neighboring village. A pack of wolves, which hadn't approached settlements before, has begun to hunt near the village. Adventurers reported this while carrying out one of their missions."
Victor replied anxiously.
- "Elder Walden is asking for help. As the adventurers alone are not enough. I've already called for a general muster and hired more adventurers. Now, we must set out to help as soon as possible. Therefore, I ask you to protect our son while I'm not around."
Victor added.
Erin approached Victor and hugged him from behind:
- "My dear, be strong. I believe you can handle it! How many times have you promised to return? How many times have you come back? Good luck, and may the strength of Goddess Astra be with you. I will pray for you."
Hugging Victor tighter, Eris left the study and headed outside, where adventurers and Victor's personally assembled squad were waiting.
That evening, as Victor and his squad and adventurers set out to help the neighboring village, silence enveloped the house. Eris sat in the bedroom, continuously praying. And Lawrence, lying in the crib, reflected on his day. He understood that each day brought him new knowledge and sensations. But deep down, he felt that his adventures were just beginning. He had much to learn and experience in this world. He dreamed of the day when he could freely talk and walk, to explore the world not just with his eyes but on his own.
Lawrence fell asleep to the soft sounds of nighttime Eldoria, looking forward to a new day, which he hoped would bring new adventures and opportunities for learning. He didn't know that his small steps on the path of knowledge would lead to significant changes not only in his life but in the lives of everyone around him. His story was just beginning, and each new day was a page he was ready to write with his discoveries and experiences.
