Epilogue

I watched as the Rif'nay'fex's planet began to pull into itself. At first it was a small dent on the perfectly circular surface, but now it was a terrible pulling force that ripped chunks of everything from it and down toward the star that had been hidden.

Touka had told me that Rickshaw didn't suffer as the star began to pull everything into itself. I hadn't asked for further details about that.

"Care," Sarah said quietly. "What do we do?"

I didn't answer. I wasn't the person that came up with these plans, that was Rick.

"I don't know," I finally told her.

"He gave you an order," Mike spoke up. "Seems like that's as good an idea as any."

"We're not leaving until this is over," I said. "We owe it to him. Him and his damn stubbornness."

"Rex says that there's still some of his whiskey in his office," Bunny said. I didn't look at her, Sarah had told me what she'd done. "Maybe we should have some of that?"

"Go ahead," I told her, my eyes still glaring at the breaking planet and the star that was being revealed.

"I'll make sure you're not a damn martyr," I swore to the ghost of the man. "I'll make sure everyone knows that you didn't do this for some misguided dogma; just sheer plain, stupid stubborness."

I swear I heard him laughing and telling me that was exactly what he wanted. Not to be a martyr.
