I started approaching the huge gorilla that was staring at me while breathing heavily. My steps were heavy, and my body was tingling all over. The gorilla was waiting to launch at me. I could feel it. The intensity was unfathomable.
When I got into 20 meters from the gorilla that was over 5 times my size, it burst forward. A black and gold dagger appeared in my hand, as I dodged the machete the gorilla swung at me, and I sprinted towards its legs. I was too fast for it and slid through its legs, managing to cut its left leg.
After noticing what had happened, the gorilla turned around to see me staring at my dagger with a confused expression.
'It didn't make a scratch!' I thought in horror, but I couldn't linger on it any longer, as I had to dodge another strike.
I did the same exact thing that I did before with the same results for three times straight before I was completely lost on what to do.
"I can't cut its legs! Does it have a weak point?!" I yelled to the guide, who was a good distance away, spectating the battle.
"I don't know. Try striking harder." the guide answered with a disappointed expression.
'Useless!' I thought, gritting my teeth in rage.
The swings were easy to see coming, and I had no trouble dodging, but I couldn't find a safe way of getting close to the gorillas upper body. If I was grabbed, I would surely die, so I wanted to stick to safe ways of attacking.
On the next strike, I decided to experiment a little, and instead of trying to cut the leg area, I thrust my dagger straight into the leg with full force. To my relief, the dagger managed to wound the gorilla, but when I tried getting it out, it didn't budge. The muscles had tightened around it, and I couldn't get it out no matter how hard I pulled.
In the end, I had no choice but to cancel the summoning of my dagger and get away.
"Oh, you actually hurt the damn thing. Keep going." the guide said, delighted by seeing the gorilla bleed.
'If I keep stabbing and retreating, I can kill it. But will my stamina be able to keep up?' I thought, completely focused on the mission.
The gorilla launched an attack more ferocious than any other I had seen before, but it telegraphed its movements so much that I knew just how to survive unharmed.
When I finally could summon my dagger again, I repeated what I had done previously, stabbing it on its other leg this time.
'I wonder how many stabs it will take for it to die.' I thought as I watched it attack even more ferociously this time.
The gorilla's machete touched the lava mid-swing, causing it to fly everywhere. I made sure to avoid the lava at all cost, but then I got the idea of getting the gorilla into the lava.
I spent the next 15 minutes stabbing the gorilla, and planning on how to make it take a swim in the lava. The issue was that the gorilla was absolutely massive and my strongest push wouldn't make it budge, so I could only make it move by making it lose balance.
The stabbing plan was working well, however. The gorilla was starting to bleed more and more as every minute passed. My stamina was also in good condition. It was starting to make me think this was doable.
That was until, I ran between its legs again and, to my horror, I saw that the first wound I had inflicted had closed up completely.
'It can regenerate!' I thought, and my focus wavering caused me to forget what I was doing for a split second.

Waking me up from my thoughts was the leg of the gorilla, going incredibly fast, a few centimeters away from me. The gorilla had tried to kick me.
Immediately, I got away from its legs as fast as I could, and tried to think what to do.
'The stab wounds heal too fast for me to kill the thing, and it's even starting to recognize what I'm doing. What can I do now. Try to get it into the lava? No, I just need to inflict more critical wounds.'
After making up my mind, I once again got into action. The machete came from my left, so went to the right and narrowly avoided the swing completely. Then I quickly took a hold of the hair on it's arm and pulled myself into the direction its hand was going, and then jumped.
Before I knew it, I was in the air, with my landing spot right behind the gorilla. Once I started to fall, I gripped my dagger tightly with both hands, and with gritted teeth I sliced the gorillas back open.
A deafening roar erupted in the dome as soon as I landed onto the ground. I hurried to create distance from the raging gorilla as I pondered my next action.
The attack had been successful, but it was far from over. A lot more damage needed to be inflicted before the gorilla would die.
"Magnificent!" the guide yelled excitedly after my acrobatic performance.
'What a psycho,' I thought in the back of my head as I prepared for my next attack.
The gorilla approached me, trying to get into range where it could swing his machete at me. Before it got into range, however, I sprinted at it and jumped, landing on the chest area of the surprised gorilla, and shoved my dagger into its left eye as I held on by the hairs on its chest.
Immediately, the gorilla started thrashing around in pain, trying to get me off of it. I held on as tightly as I could, but then I felt a strange sensation I had only felt once before. This time, however, the feeling was stronger. So much stronger that my muscles were overwhelmed and stopped listening to my brain. As a consequence, I flew off of the gorilla that was flailing all over the place and crashed into the wall of the dome.
I felt something hot rise up in my throat and spat it out. The dark red substance I spat out didn't bother me, and my attention was directed to my dagger. The golden parts of the dagger were replaced by blood-red parts that constantly flowed, as if the blood was alive.
The gorilla was calming down, but my attention was still on the changes that had happened. It was clear that I had evolved once again, but I didn't understand how?
'I thought killing was necessary for evolving to happen. How could it have happened now? And I haven't even killed anything in a while, since the undead weren't alive to begin with. Is it time related? Wait, it can't be. Did... could I have killed all of those people for nothing? Did I do something like that? Am I such a monster? No, it can't be. The evolving has to be dependent on inflicting damage. It can't be time. That wouldn't make any sense.' I thought deeply, fully ignoring my current opponent.
'Right, I can't lose focus now.' I cleared my head and realized the current danger. 'I have to focus on surviving for now. I can think about other stuff afterward.'
I stood up painfully and prepared myself. The gorilla was wounded, and I had to make sure it didn't regenerate. My focus had to be on the current moment. Whether I was a total abomination or not was something I could think about later.
