Chapter 26: The Armor

Amelia turned and clapped her hands, "Enough about that. Let me show you my collection."

She then walked to one of the platforms and I followed. There was a rough light blue gemstone on the platform Amelia was walked to, and once she took it into her hands, it gave of a faint glow.

"This here is a sorcerer's stone." Amelia said and held it up in front of my face.

I glanced disinterestedly at the stone for a while before asking what I wanted to know, "Why did you treat me?"

Amelia lowered her hand that held the stone, disappointed by my reaction, "Can't you just admire the stone? I treated you because Angus told me that you didn't want to fight, and I thought conversing with you would be interesting."

"And you wanted to show my your rocks?"

"And I wanted to show you my rocks."

I let Amelia's answer sink in for a while, and then decided to try to get some more information that could be useful, "Well, what does the rock do?"

"What do you mean, what does it do? It's a rock. It doesn't do anything. It's all about what you do with it."

I sighed inwardly at Amelia's behavior.

"Well, what can you do with it?"

Amelia showed a smile, "Glad you asked."

She then seemed to activate the stone, as the stone began to glow, and suddenly our surrounding turned dark with only me, Amelia and the stone that was now floating visible. She then moved her hands around the stone that began to float in the shape of a circle, and a light blue glowing string in the shape of a circle appeared. She quickly repeated this action multiple times at different angles until the strings formed a sphere.

She then put her hands to the sides of the sphere and moved her hands further apart from each other. The sphere then expanded rapidly, and suddenly it was large enough to envelop me and Amelia in it.

Amelia then put her hands on the rock and closed her eyes. Not long after, the surrounding sphere seemed to disappear, and suddenly we were in a completely dark space.

Amelia opened her eyes, "You see?"

"It took you a pretty long time to set up."

Amelia frowned, "You and Angus really are cut from the same cloth. You have no appreciation towards beauty."

I didn't respond, but instead turned left and walked 5 steps. From what I had observed, it was the distance I had to tread from the position I was in to touch the wall of the cave.

However, when I put my hand up to touch the wall of the cavern, I felt nothing.

Having figured out that this wasn't an illusion of some kind, I turned to Amelia, "Is this some kind of pocket dimension?"

"Heh, I guess you're a bit smarter than I thought."

"I'll take that as a yes. So is this how you and Angus survive the nights?"

"I do it this way, but Angus has his own ways of doing things. He likes to stay out and fight the undead."

"He fights them every night?"

"Yes, and the boy hunts during daytime. I've told him that he should rest more, but he never does. Well, he's a grown man, so there's nothing I can do."

"Wait, if you can do this, then how did your daughter and his husband die?"

Amelia stayed quiet for a while, but then she opened her mouth, "It was in the beginning, when we had been transported here. We did not know about the undead, and my daughter died during the first night and his husband was gravely injured. Angus had managed to protect me, but he was unable to protect everybody, and I did not have the control over the sorcerer's stone that I possess now, so I could only make a pocket dimension large enough to fit one person. We decided that I was going to stay in the pocket dimension during the nights, and Angus would fight with his father against the undead. It worked for the first few days, but Angus' father was reduced to a terrible condition because of his injuries, and that eventually led to him being eaten by the undead during one night."

"And now you two have survived just fine by yourselves."

"Yes, I have my pocket dimension and Angus is neigh invincible it seems."

"Don't go calling him invincible, when I managed to damage him."

"You did? He didn't seem to be hurt at all when he told me about you."

"Whatever. Do you have anything else in that cave of yours?"

"I do, but before I transport us back there, you should come closer, so that you don't die."

I took her advice and walked back to the spot where I had been, and in the blink of an eye we were back in the cave.

Amelia casually put the stone back onto the platform and walked to another, where there laid a black object with red glowing engravings. I followed Amelia to the platform to get a closer look at the object.

Once I was in front of the platform, I reached out to the object, but suddenly stopped and looked at Amelia, "Is it safe to touch?"

"Yes, don't worry. It's nothing dangerous." Amelia said with a wave of her hand.

After getting to know it was safe, I picked it up and inspected it thoroughly, trying to figure out exactly what it was.

However, no matter how long I looked at the black pentagon shaped object.

Eventually, I gave up and turned to Amelia, "What is this?"

"That is an armor."

"You mean a piece of armor?"

"No, it is the complete armor. It is just not activated at the moment."

"Can I try it on?" I asked, curious if it was the type of armor that didn't restrict my movements.

"Absolutely not. Even if you were capable of activating it, you should only do so when your life is in danger. It can only be used once anymore, and it won't last for long."

"What kind of armor works like that?"

Amelia tilted her chin up pridefully, "The best kind. That thing you're holding is a masterpiece created by a mythical blacksmith, and it has been one of the greatest treasures my family has been in possession of for ages."

"Do you even know if it works?"

"I do, in fact, I've seen it first hand."

"Who was it used by?"

"Angus. It was on the first night we were here. We were in a very bad position, with me not being able to transport myself into a pocket dimension, and Angus struggling with fighting the undead that were trying to attack us. But Angus always carried the armor with him, so just when we were about to die, the armor was activated. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. Angus reached unfathomable levels of speed, strength, and precision, slicing every undead in the vicinity into pieces, which allowed me to get to safety."

"Hmm, having something like that would be convenient." I mused. "How does it get activated?"

"It gets activated when the one who is in possession of it wills it. There's only one condition." Amelia said and raised her index finger. "The man who wields it must be strong."

"Physically strong or mentally strong?"

Amelia shrugged, "I don't know, could be both."

"Then how do you know about the condition."

"My father told me about it."

"Let me guess, your father doesn't know what it means because your grandfather told your father, and he didn't know what exactly it meant either."

"Yep." Amelia confirmed simply.

I placed the armor back onto the platform and looked around.

Soon something caught my eye, and I began to walk towards it.

"Did something catch your interest?" Amelia asked as she started following me.

"Yes, this one." I said and reached my hand out to pick up the skull shaped crystal that was constantly shifting.

"Wait, don't touch tha-" Amelia tried to warn me, but it was too late.

My hand had already made contact with the crystal skull, and right now what I was the blood-red gaze on the skull looking me straight into my eyes. I tried to take my hand off of the skull, but my whole body was paralyzed. I couldn't move my gaze from the skull's eyes, which had a hypnotizing effect on me.

My vision went blurry, and my mind felt incredibly dull. Then I lost all feeling and collapsed.

However, in the darkness of unconsciousness, there started to appear bizarre images. The images were all very different from each other, but they all had one thing in common.

They all showed me dead.
