Here I was, walking my way down the road towards my run-down shack. Under my breath, I couldn’t stop muttering about that idiot Alex. The audacity he had to bring up 8 years ago.
“Yeah, he wanted to say I’d feel guilty about not taking up the mission. Of course he’d know what guilt felt like. Stupid Idiot has some nerve.”
Everyone that I passed on the road looked at me as if I were crazy.
‘You people act like you don’t talk to yourselves sometimes’
I took a deep breath, calming my nerves as I kept walking.
My body froze as I came near an alleyway.
I swear, I thought I heard a cry for help.
Was someone in distress?
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Leaning into the alleyway, I tried to hear, but my ears didn’t pick up on anything. Not a single sound, aside from the noisy people on the road.
‘I’m probably hearing stuff at this point. I just need to go home and sleep. That’s all I want.’
Right when I was about to start walking again, I heard it. There it was, the screaming of someone in distress.
“Someone! Please!” the feminin voice shouted.
By how distant it sounded, It had to be further into another alleyway.
I was actually surprised I noticed it, considering all the background noise behind.
‘Should I go see what’s going on?’
I wanted to, but it wasn’t like I worked for the kingdom anymore. I wasn’t necessarily contracted to help someone in need. If I was being honest, I was feeling a little too tired to help.
‘It’s not like it’s any of my business.’
Ignoring it felt so wrong, but I was in any shape to fight.
As a matter of fact, even the weakest criminal could hurt me if they landed a hit.
I shifted my eyes back on the road, ignoring the pleads for help.
