Chapter 3.2: Night Hunt

Chapter 3.2: Night Hunt

"Hey, wake up!" Someone called out to me.

I opened my eyes. There was a figure with the same outfit as mine. And his face looks familiar, yet, I couldn't make it out. His face was blurred.

"C'mon, he already punished us by making us run around the barracks seven times! Seven times! And now will be the eight, and ninth if you don't wake up." He said while pulling my arm. Getting me up from my bed.

Yet, he disappeared. What I found is the dark cave, some part of it is lit by moonlight. A tear fell down from my sitting body.

'Yet another thing to find out, I guess.' I thought to myself while wiping the tear.

I got up and sneezed. My wet outfit didn't help me. However, I didn't take off the outfit. I couldn't dry it even if I take it off, and being a lazy guy I was, it wasn't worth it. Finding the silence a little bit unusual, I noticed three things.

'Where did that thing go to? And where are my bow and quiver' While thinking about the Mindie-Talkie, I remembered about the bow and quiver that should be on my back. Also, the pain from my calf was gone.

'Must be lost when I ran in panic. Now, without that thing and the bow, how am I going to kill the Goblins?' I thought.

Suddenly, I found what I lost, but not all of them. The bow and quiver appeared in front of me. It fell down from nowhere. I decided to ignore the strange appearance, equipped the quiver, and grabbed the bow. I checked the quantity of the arrows held in the quiver, there were 21 of them.

I left my backpack at the cave and walked out of it, finding a silent forest with the exception of the sound that the trees made when they met a breeze of cold wind, and some other night creature sounds. The moon above the river shining beautifully. The clean and transparent water the river was holding reflected the moon. It was a beautiful sight. Except, a few things disturbed me. It was some greeny things gathering around a little fire.

They were the 10 Goblins that tried to hunt me down. 7 of them were sleeping. The 3 others were guarding the sleeping ones. Three of them held bows. Four of them held swords. And the three guards held spears. I felt hatred towards them for striking me down out of blue. I wanted revenge.

Yet, before that, I needed to do something. To practice, that is. I grabbed an arrow out of the quiver, loading the bow. I pulled the bowstring and aimed at a tree a little bit far away. As I aimed, another vision of my past appeared.

It felt like time was slowed down and there I was holding my ghant. I aimed at a bottle placed on a wood chair far away. I held my breath and pulled... something attached to my ghant. Another thing came flying out of the front part of the ghant. It was really fast, even with the time being slowed down. The thing hit the bottle. The bottle shattered and fell from the chair.

The vision ends there. I found out that I instinctively released the arrow from the bow while pulling the thing attached to the ghant for some reason. The arrow was stuck in the tree I aimed at. I felt a sense of similarity between the ghant and the bow. Deciding to trust on my accuracy, I went to retrieve the arrow and start the hunt.

'They were the hunters, but now, they are the hunted.' I thought to myself, while slowly approaching the Goblins without making any sound. Well, not any sound, but the least I could make.

I keep approaching them, trying to decrease the range to increase my accuracy, while keeping some range in case I had to run away.

I aimed at one of the Goblin guards. Holding my breath and releasing the arrow from the bowstring that I pulled, the arrow was shot straight into the Goblin's head and killing it instantly.

With a *thud*, its corpse fell down, alerting the other guards. I aimed again at one of the remaining guards while they were shouting, alarming their sleeping friends. I released the arrow, it pierced to its lung, or where I guessed where a Goblin lung would be, based on human anatomy. Even though it didn't die instantly like the previous one, I ran away, leaving the Goblin to die because of suffocation and bleeding.

The other Goblins woke up and split to search around for me. I ran through the forest and hid in a bush. A Goblin passed in front of me. I stood up and aimed my bow at it, released the arrow, and the arrow hit its chest. The goblin turned around and found me, a surprised look on its face. I jump out, grabbed an arrow and stabbed it into where I guess its heart would be while being quick at it. The stabbed goblin screamed, I pulled the arrow that was stabbed into its body and kicked it. I ran again.

Counting my kills, there are 7 Goblins left. I hid behind a tree and aimed near the Goblin's corpse. Another Goblins came to it. It looked around for me. It made an eye contact with me, and I released the arrow. The arrow pierced his head and killed him instantly like the first one. But, he screamed before the arrows hit his head, calling even more goblins.

I waited once again, prepared to shoot while waiting for another Goblin to pass by. My hope was quickly crushed because all of them came at once. I shot one of them with the prepared shot. It hit its knee. I quickly ran.

The Goblins chased after me. Their short legs were unable to catch up to my speed, giving me time to pull my bowstring, stop running, turning back, and shot into one of them. The one I hit in the knee is running limply, being left behind by the others.

I continued my hit and run strategy. Killing them one by one with a bad accuracy because of my rough breathing. I turn back once more to the last of them. Which is, the guy that was shot in the knee. I killed the others first because I thought that this guy couldn't catch up to me.

I shot an arrow at it. It missed. I shot another arrow at it. It hit his belly, but it did not kill it instantly. It closed up the range. It jumped at me with its sword. I grabbed another arrow. It slashed vertically against me, and I backstepped. It hit my thigh. I aimed and shot an arrow at its head, killing it. I breathed a sigh of relieve while holding my bleeding thigh.

And the familiar thing that was lost appeared.

"Congratulations! You passed the first challenge!" It said, congratulating me.

I stared at it silently, holding the urge to beat the heck out of it.

"What's with that stare? Don't be so rude." It said.

I sighed and asked something to it.

"Where did you go to?" I asked.

"Somewhere secret~" It answered, increasing the urge to beat it.

"Anyway, let's go back to the safe zone and give your rewards. Barrier: On." It said, and I was back to the place where I started.

'I wonder what would it give me as a reward.'

"Now, for the rewards... Dun dun dun... Behold, the power of other worlds. The System! And for the other rewards, I will give you a mystery box."

"What do you me-" My words were cut off by the sudden appearance of a blueprint-like paper appeared in front of me. It was straight like before, but this time it was transparent.

System Initializing...

'The fuck?' Is the thing I thought seeing it.

Yet again, the masked man turned off the monitor. Repeating the scene again and again.

"That ends the third session! And here comes the question:

What would be the thing inside the mystery box?

It could be a spell, a skill, an item or whatever. But, it can't be a living being. Also, if the thing that you suggested is too OP, I will nerf it till it fits the power of our soldier. For example: Branch of Yggdrasil, it could give you the strength of the branch. In other words, your muscle will be harder and blah blah blah. Oh, I wouldn't give him a main weapon. You will know why shortly." The masked man said.

"Well then, goodbye." The masked man left the room after saying that.

I wonder when did he enter the room though.
