The Rise of a Weird Demon King!
2. Long hard and full of Demons.

2. Long hard and full of Demons.

"Ok, so what do you want? Do you want to stay here, or go back?" The man asked.

"Well. There's a war going on in the demon dimension. I don't know any of the demons involved and honestly, it feels like High school all over again. I'd like to pass on that option." I replied.

"Do you have a name?"

*Oh shit. He still needs a name for the binding contract!*

"Of course, it's CJ. That's enough for now. You got a name while we're at it?" I don't think I gave him enough for the contract to bind us yet.

"Cruz."

"Cruise?"

"Cruuuz."

"Crlues?"

*I'll admit I'm just fucking with him at this point. Hahaha*

"Cruz!"

"Yeah, that's what I said! I've only spoken human for like 10 mins. Anyways, how does the contract work?"

*I'm really getting worried I might have to go back to the war and will die as soon as I see the Pretender's demon army.*

"Well, it's really simple. There's a long wordy contract that defines the binding, you get part of my xp for kills, and I'll get a health buff from your demon aura. We fight as a team and are partners..." Cruz replied.

*He left it pretty open, only mentioning the good parts. Hmm... *

"Can I see the contract?" I asked.

"Of course. It's right here on the desk."

Cruz handed the metal wristband over and I started to read the fine print. It clearly stated that Cruz was the master, there was a blank for my name. It read like a TOS agreement from a cell phone company. Only one spot for names and the rest referred to party 1 and party 2. The rest of the wristband didn't look to shabby. It was gold, with small gems in a design that looked like an ocean wave. The whole thing was about an inch wide, and probably cost as much as a new car in my old world.

"Is there a second part for your side?"

*If this works how I think it does, we might be in business!*

"Sure sure. It's this ring." He handed the matching gold ring over. It had the same small ocean wave in gems.

"So, tell me about yourself while I read this." I stalled, hoping to distract him with anything to take his mind off the current situation.

"Not much to say. Twenty years old, in my third year of demonology at the academy, summoning and binding is my final exam. Once I pass, we're off to dungeons and adventures unless we get called to war. That's not likely to happen though..." He rambled on and on like he was suddenly on a dating game show.

*It's showtime!*

I click the binding wristband on my arm, kneel down with one short leg, and reach over and shove the ring on his hand.

"I do!"

Cruz doesn't hesitate for a second to cut his finger with the small knife that was on standby. A drop of his blood fell on both the ring and wristband.

Demon System: Accept Binding Contract? (Y/N)

*Yes!*

I make an identical cut with my nail. Two drops of blood later, and both pieces start to glow a deep red. His ring slowly stops glowing and my wrist band changes to an emerald green glow.

Demon System: Familiar attained!

(+5 all stats.)

*Winner winner chicken dinner!*

"What! Wait a second! Mine is the one that's supposed to glow green!" Cruz starts freaking out and tries to pull the ring off to look at the contract on it. It can't be removed though. We both knew it.

"Congratulations and thank you for becoming my familiar. I will be a fair master." I yelled triumphantly!

"How...?" Cruz still can't wrap his head around being tricked.

"Oh, I just scratched the names out and reversed them with my nail while you were blabbing on and on. I changed a little here and there too. Don't worry, in public we'll act the parts and you'll get your exam finished."

*I can't believe he fell for it!*

"Ok, it's been a long day, I was just born a few hours ago, got abducted to a new dimension, and now I own property. I'm whooped! Where's the master bedroom?" I couldn't help it. This is never going to get old.

Cruz sat there with a defeated look on his face. This was not how his life was supposed to go.

----------

The next morning we left the small house Cruz had been renting for the last three years. We hit a couple street vendors and I got forced into a matching ugly purple robe, but for a child. At least it was sized for a child, or I suppose a Feeble Demon.

*Why is it purple of all colors. Yuck.*

"Do I really need this? This is so not my style." I asked again for the fourth time.

"You have to look the part. No one wants to look at a naked demon. If you're not wearing it, no one will take me seriously." Cruz explained for the fourth time.

He seems to have accepted it and come to terms with how this shit show happened. Now we just need the letter from the academy to start our new careers.

We walked along the street to the academy, and no one looked twice at us. Apparently demons in dresses...er robes were quite common.

"Cruz! Hey! You got your demon finally! Let's make them fight!" A young blond man was yelling. He was a little taller than Cruz and had a staff in his left hand.

His demon was half a foot taller than me, red robes, slightly bigger horns, gold wristband. Just from looking I could tell he was two or three levels higher than I was.

*And...here we go!*

"Accept the fight, I need the xp." I whispered to Cruz.

"Sure Jayson, we can make them fight. No magic though, he's only level 2!" Cruz was into it, he wanted payback for sleeping on the couch last night.

"Yeah sure, no magic. Fikkert is already level 4. I'm sure he can take your runt! Want to place a bet on the fight? You know I've been offering to buy your ancestral robes for a while. I want them if my Fikkert wins!" The blonde guy said with a grin.

*Hell yeah! Loot is loot!*

"Yeah, we can bet...I want your staff if my CJ wins." Cruz replied, looking at the staff and ignoring Jayson's face.

The blond man looked at his staff and looked at Cruz. Then back to the staff, and his face got real serious.

"This staff is enchanted. You don't have anything close to it's value. Pick something else." Jayson replied with a serious voice.

"My robes and your staff are pretty equal. Just take the bet since you brought it up. Hahaha" Cruz was not letting his chance at Jayson's staff go.

"Fine. I'll be waiting for your ancestral robes! We'll count to five and release them. First to quit the fight loses!" Jayson said, thinking about his demon beating the shit out of a level 2 runt.

I immediately stepped out of my ugly purple robes.

*Freedom!*

I immediately jumped at Fikkert and wrapped my tail around it's waist. Toe nails digging in...

Pop!

(40 xp)

The head went flying to the side. Fikkert's red robes are covered in blood, and I started digging out the heart using Rip(1).

*Sometimes garlic chicken just sounds good.*

Jayson doubled over and started puking. He felt his soul get damaged when the bond was abruptly severed. On top of the soul pain, he was disgusted seeing his demon's head get ripped off.

"Hey, don't get any on my new staff!" Cruz said as he plucked the staff out of Jayson's hands.

"What level did you say your demon was?" Jayson finally asked.

"Twooooo!" Cruz said, trying not to laugh.

I stepped back into my ugly purple robes and could feel the blood smearing the inside of the robes.

*Stupid robes.*

"Thanks for the entertainment Jayson! I need to go show my demon to the mentor and get my letter." Cruz smiled and nodded at Jayson, walking away.

I left a couple bloody footprints as I followed.

-------

We entered the building for the academy without any further hassles. It looked like an old elementary school from my past life. Solid red brick walls, flat roof, with a large yard on the side.

"Are you sure you can come within 500 feet of this place?" I asked, trying not to laugh and ruin the joke.

"Don't say anything. Just follow the instructions of the mentor, and then we get the letter, and we're done here." Cruz had been repeating this over and over like a mantra to calm down.

"Yeah, I know. I got this." I had been saying the same thing over and over with a jerking hand gesture at the same time.

"What are you doing with your hand?" Cruz asked suspiciously.

*This guy! Hahaha*

"I'm trying to cast a spell."
